Being natural is about self-acceptance in the first instance. Natural hair is a lot of work but rewarding. Great video.

It really is, and I find quite sad when people still frown at the idea of natural hair, when it's part of who we are as black people.

@@ObaaYaaJones Couldn't agree more. I have a few friends who said their natural hair won't suit them. I find this quite sad

The only hair I gush over is my own. I can admire others but no hair is more beautiful than my own. I don't get the praise for others but not for oneself. Must be my age....

I just decided to let my hair grow out from almost bald. I don't care for curl pattern as well. I'm just grateful I can wear my hair in a bun or two twists. Too much over thinking if you ask me. I have no idea what my hair type is as I have yet to come across anyone with it on KZbin. All my family members have different hair textures too..... I accept and love my hair and I have had many setbacks incl excessive shedding whilst using fenugreek seeds...my regimen is simple but consistent. I use grease and my hair loves it.

3:03 it’s probably best to not commit to going natural if you’re unsure what your curl pattern is. I think you have to at least get to 10 inches to actually see a curl pattern (especially if it’s type 4). I thought for the longest I had 4c hair…because that’s how it looked from the TWA to the awkward length. But as it has grown more, I saw that I’m more 4b, with a mix of 4c. Secondly, I don’t understand why we women say “our hair takes too long.” Like…all women have to put time into their hair especially if it’s long. Rather than look at my hair as being a chore, it’s actually apart of my routine of bathing, hygiene, and more. And it won’t take as long if we did it more often and desired to explore what works for our hair. But, the mindset is “I want results fast and easy.” The sad thing about all of this is, it’s a video about a trait that we are born with and have become so estranged with that we’ve normalized the unnatural. How is it that we’ve made what is naturally growing from our scalps a problem? 😢 but, I understand because IVE finally got the the freedom after 13 years of back and forth with my hair. Through weaves, wigs, relaxed hair, and heat damage. It takes time. 12:39 I agree! 100% Great video.

People want the trends, you have to accept yourself first before going natural. It is the only way, just enjoy the process guys.

I love this content, I have to admit breaking away from wigs after becoming allergic to them was hard after my big chop, the awkward growth stage, the nay-sayers, stares from strangers, and insecurity I felt within myself about the way I look with my natural hair being short-- really was hard to break free from I was dabbing into wigs off and on knowing the hives will come but I finally was able to break free and choose health over my looks, but by doing that I saw my true beauty with my natural hair to match my natural features, I became confident and still nurtured my hair even when it was at its awkward stage because I knew in time it will grow. 5 years later my hair is mid back length and I wear hijabs as a protective style. I love how far my journey of big chopping and breaking free from relaxers and fake hair has taken me, I learned and still learning to embrace and love myself more each day despite what anyone else says, thinks or does. I’m rising above all of it. My natural hair is gorgeous and what people don’t know is that I pray for my hair, because my blessings come from God including my long hair❤. Thank you for sharing this video!😊

I second all of this. My hair is slightly past bra strap length and I have tight curls. Today just wasn't the day, washed it but got so tired and impatient. When I got to styling, the minitwists quickly turned to medium chunky twists cos I was getting REALLY fed up. I've never not wanted to do my hair as much as today so knew the usual long styling process just wasn't going to work. Not all days are like today but there are days you will feel off and unless you've learned how to take care of your hair even when you're tired, you're not going to know what to do.

I absolutely agree. At the end of the day, one has to be able to adjust to the circumstances when handling our hair. Some days are smooth sailing, while on others, we may have to push through. But that's just how life is...🤎✨️

People need to learn their hair porosity, and density to learn how to grow their hair, and stop believing that their hair can’t grow past their shoulders

Been natural since 2008 with thick 4-type hair. Water and grease and deep conditioners with heat work great! And be kind to the hair, especially with high porosity hair.

JUST LEAVE IT!!! I love it… I made the mistake of NOT taking care of my hair while under a wig. I left my braids in too long and didn’t moisturize and it thinned out! This was from 2020-2022. I would go get it done every 6 weeks and that was Wayyy too long in between wash days. I had to cut off quite a bit and “start from scratch” now I am seeing results but I had to put in work and have patience. Love this video! I also realized this time around I am falling in love with my natural curl pattern and I’m taking better care of it because I love it.

I appreciate you sharing this video your reasons for going natural are similar to mine. I have been natural since 2011 but I neglected my hair for many years by just wearing natural wigs. I started taking better care of my hair by only washing, deep conditioning, and using oils and grease and water. My hair is very slow growing and low porosity but I refuse to give up on it because I know it will grow and I have embraced it as part of who I am and how I was created.

I loved this video and wish it would have been there for me a year ago. I’m African and when I gave up flat irons, I “expected” kinky hair to grow. It kept growing in curly no matter how many times I chopped off the “heat damage”. There is no heat damage. I haven’t used heat in almost 2 years! I have loose curls and couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. Life is funny like that. 😊
