Thank you for sharing! I'm sorry that happened to you! Your hair is beautiful! This is part of the reason that I, personally, desire locs. That's what my hair wants to do naturally, and I am tired of detangling and never seeing growth.

This is a very generous video. You sharing with others will help so many. People seem to get confused about the idea of "leaving your hair alone". When we 4C gals leave our hair alone, we tend to get locs. My hair actually hates to be left alone - it wants to be moisturized and caressed and it will rebel when I don't give it what it wants. LOL.

I remember the first (and only) time I used spring twist extensions in my natural hair. The way my hair tangled around the synthetic hair was...traumatising😅 I started doing crochet styles after that experience. Yes, even with bulk braiding hair, I'd twist it and then crochet them individually.

I am glad you are back❤️. I put in extensions for 2-3 months. So Sorry about your twist take down experience. Applying a Conditioner with slip is extremely helpful. Allow the conditioner to absorb into the hair from 30 min -1hr and start unraveling. It softens the hair and melts tangles especially at the roots.

The longer my hair has gotten, the less time I keep it in protective styles. The maximum I go is 2 weeks, usually I just keep my protective styles in for one week - less detangling time and it works out since I jog every other day. Now that It is summertime I have also given up on braiding with extensions.

I learned that when i do passion twist or Marley twist i have to basically box braid my natural hair completely then crochet the twist on top. If not my curly/kinky hair will integrate and tangle with the fake hair. It’s an great long term style but it can really damage ur hair if ur hair tangles easily.

Aloe vera (fresh from leaf) would have made it easier to separate the tangles. It's the ultimate detangler for our hair. & if you so happens to be allergic to aloe vera 😱 try products that have marshmallow root and slippery elm bark high in the ingredients list. Or u can make fresh batches of these ingredients alone for extra slip. Hope these tips help! 💜 ILY hair!

@vastya.3255

The best tip to prevent this is to work with pre sectioned hair. Each section will then be braided or twisted (or braided root , twisted ends) without any extensions. Then you can braid or twist on top with the added hair and conceal the natural braids/twists, takedown will be very easy, your strands stay extra protected and almost tangle free, and you can keep the style in for longer than usual. I call them double braids or double protective style. My sister has retained major length this way and she keeps in her styles for 8-12 weeks

What type of extension did you use? It's best to use smooth straight hair like AfriNaptural definition braid or Xpression kanekalon braiding. Curly extensions like passion twist braiding hair or Xpression twisted up spring Afro twist will create this type of issues with you hair own hair locking around the extension. One thing that helps is to moisturize the twist with water or a cheap spray detangler with silicone before taking it down. The use of silicone based products here won't be an issue as a shampoo will follow. Thankfully, you know you hair very well and you were able to minimize the damage.

@@ObaaYaaJones giirrrl, you're welcome 🤗! Those type of extensions will dry your hair out like desert dry and create tangles. If you want to use them, keeping you hair moisturized while using them is a must. When you're ready to take them down, spritz them first. Even simple distilled water will help. Never ever take them down when dry or you'll face your worse hair nightmare with the tangles and matting.

I’m so sorry you had such difficulties. I can’t say for sure but it appears that you and I have the same 4c hair type . With that said twists is NOT the protective style to keep in over a week due to massive tangling. We can get away with about 2 to 3 weeks with 3 strand braids. With both styles we (4c) MUST wet each braid/twist and saturate it with a detangler with major slip or a conditioner with major slip. Yes the take. down will be longer but it will offer major length retention.

When I used extensions in my hair and it was time to take them down I always put a little moisture on my extensions. I would get just a little bit of cream and mix it with a little bit of oil and start with my ends and just massaged it in my extensions.I didn't go crazy with the cream and oil and it was alot easier to take my hair down with less breakage it was mostly shredded hair. I have 4C hair so my hair is prone to breakage. I don't use extensions anymore I always keep my ends moisturized when I twist my hair. That's the only protective style for me. @vastya.3255

Webbing is the reason for all my set backs, because everytime I detangle I can’t run through my section because of all the tiny webbings in between clumped strands, if I pull too hard, my hair gets pulled from the root and just pops out, it’s as if it’s getting tweezed. I blow dried my hair a few days ago and I did a dry finger detangle by releasing 90% of the tiny webbings strand by strand or cluster by cluster, it took me hours though, I spread it over two days, so now I don’t have much webbing but I want to prevent the webbing now, d’you have tips?
