Just won our league championship thanks to everything I learned on your channel. The fact that you don’t have to overthink your swing was the winning formula in the heat of competition. Did I mention that at 75, I am the oldest champion in the 40 year history of the league.

That is *FANTASTIC,* Henry - Congratulations on your record setting victory!! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement and success, and keep up the fabulous work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results. As you are now coming to understand, one does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

Tom, played one of the worst rounds of golf yesterday. Halfway through I decided I should finally implement the things you teach in this video. I step up to a par 5 with driver in hand: weight forward, arms together, swing with shoulders. I ended up hitting a beautiful 285 yard drive after struggling with my driver all day. I even put my second shot just off the green and was chipping for eagle (can’t say that too often!). Needless to say I think you just got another premium member 👍🏽

Hey Tom... Long time listener first time caller... I'm inspired to comment after saturating my brain with your system. I find myself going over all your stuff ad nauseum in an attempt to replace all my old bad habits and antiquated swing thoughts with this elegant S&T system you teach. Yesterday I put a super ugly 54 on the front (2 2 2 2 1 4 2 1 2 overs) and was tempted to call it a day but pressed on and continued my duffing doubling 10 & 11 (took me four shots to get on a par three green - ugh) on the par 5 #12 I snapped out of it and managed to put a drive firmly in play and then hit my second shot nicely into position. With nothing but overs so far the genuine look at par seemed to wake me up and I hit a crispy little 50 yard pitch to about 12 feet and experienced a light bulb moment. I realized that for the first time all day I actually watched the ball come off off the club face. I guess that's because I was hitting the ball all over the place and I was overly concerned about SEEING where it went (so I could find it!) by throwing my eyes and head out there to pick up the ball flight before I even struck the ball (as if I was watching someone else hit). I came to the conclusion that this was a REALLY bad habit. With my only swing thought for the rest of the round being to keep my head down and witness the KFC I went two over for the last 7 holes. HUGE improvement just like that. I didn't have to peek, I hit the damn ball where I intended to. Huh, what a concept! (2 2 0 1 1 0 0 0 0 overs on the back nine) Incidentally, I'm a 70 year old career musician taking golf back up after a seven year break due to bad eyesight (cataracts - now repaired) and I spread the word of Seguto Golf liberally. The way you communicate is superb. We're here to have fun right? You make golf a TON of FUN! My only suggestions would be... talk a little about WATCHING the ball leave the club face and MORE COMEDY! Saluté! Barry K Carmel, Indiana

Hi Barry, I appreciate you sharing your on-course experience and the "AHA" moment that turned things around for you. Excellent job figuring that out mid-round!! Keeping a steady head is a recurring theme in my instruction, and there are good reasons why it was Jack Nicklaus’ most important swing key as explained in this video from my channel's archives: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2bGpJyan9-nsMk. Oftentimes when a golfer picks their head up to early it is the result of an action somewhere upstream in the swing motion, such as early extension and/or a premature "firing" of the hips that takes the upper torso (and thus the head) with them. As you learned, this is one case where fixing the symptom actually can cure the problem. I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and "lesson and a show" teaching style are resonating with you. Thanks for your message and keep up the great work!! One of your most instructional videos. I recently started focusing on keeping my arms straight and in doing so I started to notice that I felt my left shoulder socket stretch a bit at the end of my backswing and then started the downswing by feeling a slight pull in the same left shoulder socket. My swing radius is now super consistent and I began flushing my irons very consistently. This changed my ball striking and added about 5-10 yds per club like magic. This video seemed perfectly timed and this advice is some of the best I have ever received. Thank you so much!

Also, seeing the elbow tucked in the level angle vs. tilted to the ball angle was a key concept to my further understanding of this swing. Looking forward to playing better golf!

The best lesson on YT. I shot an 84 yesterday just following the "elbows together, turn the shoulders" methodology that Tom teaches here. It could easily have been sub 80 with less 3 putts. This lesson and swing thought is so good, it seems pointless experimenting with anything else, the results don't lie.

Well done, Jeremy! I saw where you posted that in another thread and replied there. Golf is a very difficult sport. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing, exceptional hand-eye coordination, and/or micromanaging "positions" - and we can - then we will be able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and as trust builds in the golfer will find that the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized, as you are now experiencing. Thanks again for sharing your success, keep it crispy, and as previously mentioned we'll see you soon in the 70's!! Tom PS: If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? Thank you Tom You’re teaching is like a breath of fresh air so simple it’s not funny. I am still struggling with keeping my weight forward and keeping my head still throughout start to finish per the instruction you had on Jack Nicklaus illustration on the imaginary shaft down the middle of your head and also concentrating on the ball getting in the way of the swing instead thinking of hitting the ball which has been a hurdle I just can’t get over. When I totally follow your instructions it works a 100% my desire is just to make consistent solid contact . Thank you Tom !!! you have certainly given me at 59 years young hope and confidence to want to play a game that should be enjoyable and not frustrating . I gave up golf 25 plus years ago and went fishing instead because fishing came so natural to me,but your teaching has resurrected my desire to try golf again.

This is great stuff!! I have a bad habit of standing up (early extension) with my hips firing in when I come down on the downswing and it turns out my arms were the big culprit here. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. This is all so true. I worked it out recently through self discovery, however I am going to state my NUMBER 1 tip. I would say the hinge of the right hand is the fundamental starting point. If you get this idea of the wrist staying open and locked you will develop the swing you need to get a square face. If you dont lock the wrist, what will happen is that your wrists will prevent you from developing the body swing. Try swinging your arms and then hinging your wrists to hit the ball at 100 mph. Not possible. Youre much better off locking the wrists and getting the body into a square position. Its taken me 4 years to get here but honestly if you are an amateur golfer who wants to half their handicap in less than 2 weeks, this is the crucial change needed.
@philward2752

Thank you also to Saguto Golf because he is the best teacher on teh internet in my opinion. Everything you say is accurate. I just wish you had placed more emphasis on the locked wrist. Look at Tiger Woods swing in slow-mo and you will see that he doesnt hinge his wrists....this was the first clue that I had which steered me away from teachers claimin hinge and de-hinge. Deceptive

I sincerely appreciate your kind and validating words, Phil, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. What you are speaking of with regard to the trail wrist is what I have referred to as the "flying wedge" in various videos. It is also what the Precision Impact aid demonstrated in this particular episode and others is designed to train and ingrain. And as for that erroneous notion so many have unfortunately bought into that we need to affect some type of active hands/wristy release, given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Thanks again for your message and support, and keep up the great work!! Tom Saguto, PGA

I have started incorporating this into my swing, and it definitely is helping! I keep having one issue. On my miss hits / not making solid contact I noticed the ball mark on my club face is on the inside of the club face. How can I correct this? Thank you!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Ай бұрын
I'm very glad to learn that this lesson is performing well for you, Brian - nice job incorporating it into your swing! Contact on the inner part of the face can be the result of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open or snatching the club inside with the hands in the takeaway; 4) Your wrists may not be hinging properly (which is often the case when a golfer tries to manufacture or force the hinge rather than just allowing it to happen); 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned towards the heel of the club; 6) You are losing your pre-established relationship with the ball (i.e.: a deficiency in the Tilt component); 7) You are not completing your shoulder turn in the backswing; 8) More... What I'm getting at is that there are a number of potential causes, and without actually seeing your swing it's impossible for me to identify the culprit. While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses the various possibilities, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Keep up the great work! @SagutoGolf Ай бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Paul, and I appreciate knowing that my instruction content is benefiting your game!! It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. So in the case of a pull, the face is closed to the target line at impact. There are various possible causes for this, including the face being too shut at address, a grip that is too strong, a ball position that is too far forward, weight not moving forward enough in the downswing, a downswing path that is approaching the ball from the outside, flipping/rolling the hands through the zone and more. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first three possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. For example, a golfer may have previously deployed a closed clubface at address and/or a strong grip to compensate for a slice due to a steep downswing path. If the path has been corrected, then that same grip can certainly result in pulled shots. This may be the best video you’ve done (and there have been many) comprehensive, yet easy to understand. I will watch this over and over, again & again. 😁 Jack Nicklaus’ #1 swing thought was “keep your head still” … and he was pretty good 😏 But I have a couple questions: 1) What about all of Scottie Scheffler’s lower body movement? … especially his footwork? 🤷🏼‍♂️ He says he’s done it his whole life, but seems so hard to keep the head still with that much movement. Secondly, my left foot almost always spins out (it seems Scheffler does too). Yet, most instruction says that’s bad. Should I not worry about my feet? 🤔 Keep doing what you’re doing 👊🏻 Best golf instruction anywhere 👍🏻

@WillytheAsian 2 ай бұрын
I feel like Scotties footwork is a product of his upper body rather than a conscious movement with his lower body-- lower body is stabilizing the swing. I don't think the spinning out of the left foot is an issue, if you were spinning out ur hips then there would be an actual issue but that also usually ties into ur hips taking priority in the swing sequence. If your hips spin out it's really hard to bring the club back on path to the ball and you throw away a lot of ground forces.

Look up "Stack and tilt bowler drill" for a great series of videos explaining what's essentially going on with him and with other golfers such as Greg Norman. Essentially they're doing it as a way of slowing down the upper torso and keeping it from opening too fast relative to everything else which tends to throw the club out thereby promoting a over-the-top swing.

I appreciate that, Mike! I'm very glad to know that this lesson video resonated with you to such an extent, and I hope the drill contained therein performs well when you put it into practice! The “Bowler Drill” (which we also refer to as the ”Skateboard Drill”) as @knuteboy3778 referenced is covered in detail in my online school, and it does resemble the "Scheffler Shuffle" in both form and function. We use it when a golfer exhibits a premature "firing" of the hips which then brings the torso and everything else around with them. The drill counteracts that spinout and helps them to build in the proper downswing action. As for your lead foot spinning out, it's only a problem if the rotational action that is causing it is resulting in path and ball striking issues. If so then the root cause needs to be addressed. If not then don't worry about your feet. It's quite apparent that Scottie doesn't.....😎 Thanks again! Tom

Hi Tom. I've watched almost all of your videos, I think anyway. I'm a 62 year old physically beat up guy. My biggest issue in my lower back. I've been playing in significant pain in my low back for many years. I refuse to quit. I do a stretching routine every day of my life and do the best I can. The times I've swung the club doing as many pieces of what you teach correctly, I hit the ball good. Watching this home drill it brings to mind where I struggle the most which is turning the torso. What ends up happening is a swing using mainly my arms because I can't get the turn in my torso. My biggest inconsistency is my irons. When I'm stacked on my left side, should the low point be the same for all of my irons? I know your techniques at least in part are made for physically beat up guys like me and even just a small torso turn and getting the club back to the same low point in front of the ball will help a ton. I've watched a zillion videos but you're the best at keeping it as simple as possible. Not to mention you keep it fun while teaching. Any insight for a beat up low back guy would be great. Thanks in advance Tom!

Everything is degenerative. Varying degrees and types of stenosis in lumbar area confirmed by MRI this past spring. Exercises are good. I mix several in with stretching. Extension exercises for stenosis are the worse thing you can do. Spine surgeon told me he could do a 3-level fusion to maybe achieve 70 percent pain relief. That ain't happening.

I appreciate that! As long as we keep our radius (lead arm) and swing center intact and properly execute the motion, the low point is going to be consistent throughout the bag. All that really changes is ball position, stance width, and distance from the ball depending on the length of the club. Now, with regard to your primary issue, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Excellent description of a confusing part of the swing for me. it you look at the photo of Hogan in his "5 lessons book" his club has definitely shallowed as you describe but the face kooks very open which seemingly would require arm or wrist rotation to square the club face and timing of this move. I tuck the right arm (tail arm) so as to show the arm pit with the face on view but rather than have palm up at this point I then turn the right wrist 90 digress like doing a handshake with someone but still keeping the the trail arm tucked in. I have seen a Rob Cheeney Golftech Asia video recommend this or else a twisting motion on downswing move or some call a motorcycle move in the downswing. If you try to come down too long trying to hold on to the trail arm fold or trying to move it more in front of the body I have found I do have an open club face resulting in weak right shots. As you say, I would rather not think about those factors. Any advice? Palm up or hand shake at set up for trail arm and wrist? Thank you for all your valuable videos.

I'm very glad to know that this lesson aided in your understanding, Charles, and now that you are armed with this knowledge I hope you are able to use it to the betterment of your game. There can certainly be an initial need to train and ingrain the correct actions you are referring to. Ultimately and ideally, though, we should want to get to the point where we simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for your message - I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! As always, this was awesome! I did this at home and went to the range. Great on irons, still a struggle on driver. Here’s what I’m trying to understand. When you shallow the club with your right hand, is it a conscious “hinge” or do you just feel the weight of the club? And it didn’t seem to work with my driver. Thank you!
@beachedwalrusau
@beachedwalrusau 2 ай бұрын
It works for the driver but the setup is slightly different. I thought the same but now my driver is more reliable then my fairway wood and long irons. I think the checkpoints he has from his school/videos are - ball aligned just inside your lead foot - hip bump left to get the weight set forward even more (70-80%). This also has your head still centered. Still need all your weight on the lead foot during the swing. - trail foot is 2 golf balls backwards from a short iron (Longer distance between stance) - Same swing as an iron but it will be more shallow due to setup. - Also make sure the lead arm is straight during the whole swing. The right hinge is not conscious at all, i had to unlearn that as it just happens when you are tilted and rotate, the right arm tucks and hinges automatically.

I'm glad to know that you enjoyed this video, Dan! Ideally - and as @beachedwalrusau does a fabulous job of conveying in response to you - we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. If we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. As for the driver, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) They are not setting their weight forward correctly and as a result are tilting their spine towards the target. We should address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. 2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral targetward action through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel, thereby posing an increased risk of premature spinout. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing - and they should move targetward naturally if we allow them to - then their rotation takes over, thereby stalling the necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) during the downswing and through impact. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 4) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) While there are certainly videos on my channel that address these topics, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag, as well as an introduction to the formal online school learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Keep up the great work! One great drill you can do to make your right arm move back passively, in the first part of the backswing, to, enable maximum flexion, when the left side of the forearm is facing straight in front you, is to step forwards with your left foot, then as you step forwards with your right foot, position your right elbow in front of your right hand- as you do here- then, as you place your right foot on the ground, press forwards with the left side of your right pelvis. When you do this you will feel your right arm floating back. Straight away, when you swing a club, you will feel you right arm folding into a deep position at the top.

@@SagutoGolf Thanks for that, Tom. I certainly can recommend your your online school to all golfers. I wouldn't comment here if I didn't. But, re: the clavicle/shoulder etc. it may be that I am more qualified than any other golfer to stress the importance of the right clavicle in the swing. When I was six I actually tried to swing a club with a broken right clavicle, after falling off my bike and being assured that my shoulder was fine. So, I thought to myself that there was only one way to put that to the test; and picked up a club and tried to swing it. I got half way back and my shoulder collapsed half way down to the ground. So, I can definitely confirm the importance of the clavicle in the swing.

The elbows together thing works brilliantly for chipping, really seems to activate the shoulders with less handsy movements. For the full swing it seems to promote quite an in to out swing path often leading to nice high draws but occasionally can turn into a hook. Any thoughts on how to limit the hooks, particularly duck hooks with the driver?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Ай бұрын
Hi Jeremy, What you are experiencing with those crispy chips should also translate to the full swing. Ultimately, the answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. For example, it could be that your path has shallowed too much (perhaps from taking it in too deep, which can happen, for example, if the lead arm connection extends too far down the chest) or that your swing still has some leftover remnants of subconscious compensatory moves that you made to neutralize a previously steeper path such as a strong grip. While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses the various causes, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom

@@SagutoGolf Thanks, I'll start with the mini course although this video covers a lot. I had a mini revelation at the range yesterday. It seems my right hand might have been turning over and smothering the ball. When I focused on the right hand/wrist remaining flexed at impact almost like a cut shot, the ball went much higher with predictable draws. I was always told to never mess with hand action but the results I had immediately fixed the low hook so will continue with it.

Tips for anyone having hiccups with all of this. I think LEFT shoulder backswing and LEFT shoulder start downswing when doing what he has been showing us the last couple of weeks, for anyone that is having trouble starting the downswing. I had trouble starting the downswing when I was thinking MOVE RIGHT shoulder starting down, my weight sometimes wanted to go to my right side and sometimes I would also start over the top with low point off. Thinking back LEFT and down LEFT fixed all that and surprisingly was way faster. I also found myself reaching for the ball with my irons, standing too far from ball and not letting my arms hang freely after bending over causing me to lose balance when swinging causing tops and standing up out of it. I think most of us amateurs tend to not let our arms hang at address and slightly or vastly over reach which will never allow you to maintain your posture during the swing or hit a consistent low point. Elbows in, straight left arm and the stiffer feel at address may actually cause many of us to reach too far when addressing the ball screwing up our balance and low point. That certainly happened to me, and I fixed that by addressing the ball from a distance where my arms would naturally hang when bent over and NOT adding any reaching out. Low point, posture and balance maintained only when I made sure I was the correct distance from the ball with NO added reaching. I don't know if he specifically covered distance from ball, if he did I missed it, so I thought I would share what helped me out the most with this.

Forgot to mention that thinking backswing and downswing with LEFT shoulder resulted in a full swing to the finish facing target, but thinking start downswing with the RIGHT shoulder was always slower and the follow through was cut off short every single time without getting that full facing target finish.

These setup keys may help to clarify: We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. _The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft._ We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. As for part 2 of your message, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. The way I understand it is that your hips will fire a little before, but you don’t even need to think about it. I spent too much time trying to consciously fire hips, but it only hurt me. As long as I stay connected and go back, it really is all shoulders (consciously). Because the shoulder turn pulls the hips open, then the hips gotta fire back when you start the down swing.

If you look at my actual swing from a face-on perspective in any of these you will see the lateral hip action you are referring to. When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help in overcoming this, correctly engaging their hips and fixing their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition. For example, have a look at this recent episode documenting a live lesson in which I had the student emphasizing the trail shoulder action in the downswing and observe his magnificent improvement in ball striking towards the end: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXSXaaqKncmZm9E And while there are certainly other videos on my channel that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

Do I keep my wrists locked and not move them at all? I feel like all my inconsistency comes from my wrists...
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Ай бұрын
Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

@@SagutoGolf Thank you for your reply! I wish I was in SC so I could come in for a lesson but I will certainly check out the website! I have definitely been overthinking the wrists. Always worried as to the right time for them to hinge/break/etc. I will try giving up control and just letting the body take over. Thank you again so much! You are truly one of, if not THE best golf pros out there. Your teaching ability and techniques are miles above the rest. What better way to get people into the sport and enjoying the game than to keep it as simple as possible! Thank you!

Love the head on the wall drill. If I bring the club back shallow I’ll swing over the top. If I take back steeper I’ll swing shallow. Not everyone does a linear take back and swing. Different strokes different folks . Also totally passive and inactive wrists isn’t optimizing power. You can get a lot more power from wrist flexion and extension and many pros explain that. Less consistency of course . Same with tennis. A tennis serve has tons of wrist because it’s maximizing power. A tennis backhand and FH much more passive. Snapping the wrists can get way more power on those shots but lose control. Some can get away with it like Federer. Because insane timing. Which gets him insane power and spin.

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed the drill and I hope it performs well for you! Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. …played first time at course with Crispy Chicken ( ( after 3 buckets…and got confidence by third bucket to take a new swing to actually play )..I played wonderfully, with consistency, especially off the deck…almost everything you say is gospel…one exception, the precision wrist device is not something I would buy again…uncomfortable, almost impossible to fully set on backswing ( even you mentioned presetting at address because of this ) and on the finish your wrist angle doesn’t release causing stress on the wrist…and is not necessary unless you cast …as well, it’s made kinda poor and it’s far too expensive…although for short and slow(er) practice swings , it’s at best okay…and don’t think for a second that you can take it to play at course…just too clumsy and time consuming to put on and off (especially if you have honours and are first off )…

I'm very glad to learn of your KFCrispy round, Mark - nice job!! 💪💪 With regard to your Precision Impact experience, I'm sorry to learn of that as I have not heard from anyone else who is not at the very least extremely pleased - and in many cases elated - with the results it is producing. As such, my guess is that it may be a matter of learning how to attach/use it correctly and/or that the device is properly inhibiting remnants of a well-ingrained previous poor impact condition and thus feeling uncomfortable as a result. Having said that, the folks at Pure Swing Products are excellent to work with, so if you are truly dissatisfied then please reach out to them directly. You'll find contact and return information on their website: pureswingproducts.com/ Thanks, Tom
