I think that's actually the definition of what consciousness and the soul is. Everything else that is not conscious would be static and never experience time, their eternity is over in a flash, but we experience it in a line. You could be across the universe and your time would be different than mine, but to us we'd both experience it at the same speed individually, even though gravity stretches time in different places. Because of this constant nature of the way we perceive time even though it flows differently across the universe leads me to believe that the one constant of consciousness is the perception of time.
