I'm 52 now, and I was raised to believe that most people are good people. I would take them at face value, and it usually bit me in the ass. After my last relationship, I'm scared to even trust anyone now. I ignored the flags because I wanted him for so long. He would put himself down, and it broke my heart so I would raise him up. And when I finally got with him he destroyed me. I am working on healing, and it's damn hard. It's damn fucking hard, and now I see everyone (except for my kid) as a mental terrorist. How do you get past that so that you can be open to trust, but still be guarded until they deserve it.

I’ve been in similar situations and over the years had so many other people share similar stories and I noticed in a lot of these situations people gave their trust to easily too soon. I read it takes two years to get to really know someone so for all single people really take your time getting to know people, if someone is rushing things or seems to good to be true that is red flags and always listen to your intuition if something feels off it probably is.

@@MelModica I really should have known better, but I couldn't see him for who he was. He was so damn good at masking himself and he was charming and charismatic. I wanted to take his hurt and heal him. I thought I could, but as the relationship went on I saw the signs and ignored them. I wanted to prove to him not every woman walks away. At the end of 6 months, I no longer recognized myself. I gave EVERYTHING to a narcissist, and it's killing me. You're right, I need to take time to truly get to know someone. I try to be kind to everyone because I know how it feels to be treated unkind. Now, for my own mental health and salvation, I'm going to be wary. I've got both eyes open now.

I DID ignore all the red flags and I ran right into the fire, but I'm still alive and I'm unbreakable. Maybe that's what they hate. That they cannot destroy us. And by trying to do so, they will only harm themselves. Spiritually, we are VERY dangerous especially when people try to fuck with us. It is all gonna come back to them and they will have to go through all the suffering they've put us through or even worse. That's what I love about life.

I live alone but don’t feel lonely at all. I do not ever allow myself to be set up again by anyone. I just honor my personal time and let me tell you I have flourished beyond measure.
