Would recommend using a staple gun for pinning ths quilt. We've recently done this and it's worked really well

Good afternoon, I have just discovered this product and love it ! I have discovered a wonderful way to cut it……. I have bad arthritis in my hands so big scissors don’t work for me ! Put a 1mm thick metal cutting disc in your 110 mm grinder , place foil over waste material then simply cut through it easier than hot knife through butter ….. try it ! Kind regards Nick

I had no idea how to fit this material. You've helped me to decide whether it's something I can tackle myself or not. Thank you for taking such care with lighting and audio, making your process crystal clear. Even the music was OK :)

I didn't think you needed the lagging between the rafters, I was led to believe the multi-foil went straight across the underside and stapled on. If the manufacturer printed grid lines on the foil face it would greatly assist in cutting a straight line.

Depends on the u value your are trying to achieve. Multi foil can be combined with PIR or other types of insulation to increase get a better u value.

Staples mate. Bang some staples in it to hold it up. So much easier. 14mm.

That’ll work for the thinner quilts but the SF40 is too thick for 14mm staples.

Is the Rockwool between the rafters a lot less efficient than PIR? My son and girlfriend are getting a loft conversion and have been quoted for 100mm PIR. Their rafters are really deep (at least 20cm) so I was thinking they could put thicker insulation in than 100mm. The rockwool is breathable, fireproof and should be easier to install too

Perhaps you could put a plastic wedge (spacer) between the batton and foil to get the flatness, also do knock the nail full in before finding how flat ceiling is

Before you fit the rock wool insulation. Do you need to add baffles first for air flow then rock wool then super quilt. ? Cheers
@SC-hk6ui
@SC-hk6ui 2 жыл бұрын
Superquilt should have a high enough R value without the rockwool between rafters. This would also allow an air gap for breathability.

I'm a builder and I swear by this stuff, I normally use triso super 10 but there's all sorts of different brands. I've got fitting this down to a fine art and its way quicker and tidier than pir. Cutting wise I've got a special cutter made by actis, much like a box cutter its far easier than scissors

Would this work on the underside of 1930s pitched roof. Followed by battens and standard 12.5mm plasterboard or would o still need insulated plasterboard?

The 50 mm air gap is on the underside then the foil then another gap over, so there are two gaps in effect.

Do you not need 50mm gap between roof and 1st level of insulation i.e. rockwool ? And what's done ference between this an superquilt?
@jonwoodscience
@jonwoodscience 2 жыл бұрын
@@aylorpaul39 That's my understanding too. A cold roof should have a 50mm ventilation gap between the sarking felt and any insulation. My home's rafter depth is only 75mm, so I can't add additional material between the roof and the foil underneath the rafter.

Why is this so good? Radiated heat loss is minimal. So you must rely on something that traps air rather than reflects radiated heat

It’s a great product in theory but in real world it’s crap. Very very labour intensive, ballooning problems on overlaps like with every other multifoils, therefore requires bigger size timber than manufacturer recommends otherwise impossible to create air gap and achieve required U value.
