The way he swings between being deeply insecure and genuinely afraid to defensively lashing out at the other driver and seeking refuge in power fantasies is so authentic I can't help but feel like it was drawn from some real encounter Tim had with a bad driver

This is such a great way of describing this scene and the show in general. I read that Tim got some dialogue ideas from just listening to children talk, like the line “I don’t know how I can hear anymore about tables,” from this season. Such a brilliant mixing of the infantile in a literal sense and then in the metaphoric retreating into fantasy as a way of coping with normal anxieties and a loss of control/meaning.

There are so many things that are funny about this 1 how much I relate because I dont know how to drive 2.the fact that this restaurant parking lot is the first place hes tried to drive, alone 3.the fact that I thought this was Henry Rollins(who would be more intimidating to cut off than him?) 4.how Tim is STARTLED by the horn
