Ummm.... why not 1/4, 1/4, 1/4 and top it off with a couple brads instead of clamps? Strongest drawer, really fast, looks great from all angles. Great video. Enjoyed seeing all 4 methods in one video. You are a good teacher. Every step clearly explained, good drawings to illustrate the concepts. This was very helpful.

You could totally do that! That would be ideal. I also like Ken's suggestion too with the CA Glue. In this video I was just trying to show the basics I guess. The brads will still leave a small hole and if you do a true 1/4 method it's seemless! Thanks so much for watching oxcart and great comment!

I meant to comment yesterday, but life and projects got in the way. Thanks for the drawer tutorial, I've got two projects coming up that include the first drawers I'll ever make. You just reinforced my plans to use pocket screws. Anyway thanks for the Saturday video and enjoy what's left of the weekend and have a great week.

Nice video, and good timing for me. I like that you showed several methods for building drawer boxes. Maybe you could create a part two for this video showing additional methods: * Lock miter joint at the corners (cut using a router bit) * Box joint at the corners (cut using either a table saw or router) * Through dovetails * Half-blind dovetails Probably 20 years ago I used a lock miter router bit to create a few large drawers for a shop cabinet. It worked, but the measurement tools that I had at that time made it time consuming to set up the bit height and fence position accurately. Earlier this year I built a box joint jig to create 3/8" box joints for various drawer-like boxes for shop projects. Last year I built several drawer boxes using the 1/4 1/4 1/4 method, but I used digital calipers to verify measurements (the drawer boxes were cut so accurately that they had to be forced together when glued using Jorgensen steel I-bar clamps after the Jorgensen parallel jaw clamps failed at the task... make sure you leave a few 1/1000" for glue squeeze out). I just recently dusted off and tuned up my roughly 35 year old Porter Cable 5116 16" Omnijig dovetail jig that I bought roughly 20 years ago. Once set up correctly, the tails board and pin board are cut at the same time, making it possible to cut a half-blind dovetail joint in about the same amount of time it would take to drill three pocket holes in a board. I was so impressed with the speed at which half-blind dovetails could be created with the jig, that I bought on EBay a Porter Cable 7116 24" Omnijig dovetail jig that is a few years newer, and also came with a variably spaced dovetail template - the shipping cost from Canada was pretty high. I also bought a PantoRouter all-in package, which comes with templates for cutting through dovetails, box joints, mortise and tenon joints, dowel joints (creates both the dowels and the dowel holes), slots that are similar to those cut by the Festool Domino, and various other joints. If I am successful at creating a custom template that mimics the way that the Porter Cable Omnijig cuts dovetails, then it will also be able to cut half-blind dovetails on the machine. Now I have a dilema. I need to create six drawer boxes for a rolling cabinet for the PantoRouter. I can't decide what type of joint to use for those drawer boxes, and then which machine to use to cut the joints.

What an excellent idea Charles, that would make an excellent second video! I thought about including dove tails in this video but hadn't thought about locking miters. Great idea. Sounds like you've tried all the methods. Really can't go wrong with any of them! I have that same porter cable jig. I have not done 1/2 blind dovetails on it, but I should give that a shot! Thanks so much for your comment very interesting. Best of luck on the new boxes for the rolling Cabinet!

Great vid Bryan! Very informative and easy to follow. For shop drawers, I usually grab the pocket hole jig as well. I do think the 1/4, 1/4, 1/4 method is the best looking but also don't have that many clamps for my shop.

Great video. ❤ Me personally. I prefer 2 & 3. But if they are personal, like for a shop, quick and easy works. My kitchen has soft close side mounts and are made from red oak for heavy use. Using the 2nd method with pocket holes. For me, I also prefer the 2nd overall. It’s been 2 years and they are still going strong.

@@FlynndoggWoodwork You have 2 18 ga legs same as 18 ga brad nails and the crown keeps them from sinking down into the top layer of wood. Really helps to hold the 2 pieces of wood together so the glue can dry. I got a cordless crown stapler so I don't have to have an air line. The stapler will also work with brad nails.

As many of your viewers commented, this is an excellent teaching video! Very informative and your presentation was so easy to grasp and relate to. I do have I question that I hope you can answer. My workshop is my garage and my table saw is a Dewalt job site saw. My understanding is that dado blades are a no-no for such saws, yet on your 1/4" dado cut, it appeared that you were using your Dewalt portable table saw. If so, would you be so kind as to explain. Many thanks!
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork 3 сағат бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind words Marty! To answer your questions, the whole reason I got my DeWalt saw was because it was able to accept dado blades. I know not all jobsite saws can accomidate dado blades but this dewalt definitely can. The arbor is longer and I have even purchased a dado face plate from dewalt for the saw. Here is a reddit discussing it: www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/comments/13ppmh9/entry_level_table_saw_that_accepts_dado_blades/
