Ana, I do think that what you're doing here , helping others, is your purpose. What you share resonates with so many people! You are also providing a place for like-minded people to gather, to know they are not alone, to know that others do understand what they go through and how they feel. You are appreciated, dear Ana!

This is just a quick comment to say I am savoring this post more than any in the past. It speaks to so many feelings and life questions that have surfaced in my heart recently, especially about a life purpose and about defining our basic moral values. For me, at age 74, it has been more about realizing what those are and have been through my life, as opposed to creating them. Not a quick comment after all! But I enjoyed this post so much, and will rewatch it many times. Thank you for this food for thought.

I read somewhere that the only purpose in life is to be alive. That's it! So enjoying life the best we can, should be the only one purpose. Everything else we do is an extra WIN 🏆 🙏 🙌

Ana, I believe you have certainly found real purpose with this wonderful channel of yours. Your ideas, thoughts, and advice are unique and stand out amongst all other youtubers. I subscribe to The School of Life, Green Renaissance, and Big Think, and truly, your weekly videos are what I go to first! In my own life I grew up with two very negative and critical parents. My father was disinterested and indifferent to me and my mom labeled me as selfish and a loner. But I was lucky enough to find kind and encouraging adults elsewhere. With their guidance I reached adulthood armed with important goals and values. You are so right to emphasize how necessary it is to seek and adopt a positive image for yourself. Everything we accomplish in life originates from how we think of ourselves. Gosh there is so much to think about here!

My punk rock beginnings instilled the value of generally not caring what people think of me, which I’m grateful for. It’s freed me up to forge my own path… though I still definitely got lost and faced a lot of dead ends. The concept of having a purpose cracks me up, perhaps because I don’t have any big grandiose idea of what I’m doing here, and that’s okay. But, you also mentioned values. Those are what I live by - or try to. Living according to my values is what sprinkles joy, delight, and wonder into my day. I feel so abundantly blessed to know what my values are, and live in harmony with them. Personally, it’s not about chasing anything. Rather, it’s a delicate dance between the inner and outer world, understanding how they influence each other, being curious and not overly indulgent. I think more than anything, my purpose is to pay attention to the ride and what’s REALLY important. Because no matter what, our exit is all the same. I love all the insight your videos provide, and stir up, thank you Sending you lots of ❤

Thank you Ana. I agree, many of us can't live the life, we would like to live. Though, as I got older I did stop caring what most people think of me, simply because I can't stop them from doing so and they will judge anyway. I can't please them. What matters is what I think of myself. It gave me freedom. Thank you for another good video❤

I think you "outed" a lot of people, myself included, by stating that most of us really have no grand, over-arching purpose in life. Your last point about having a set of values to live by is really where most of us are at I think. My values guide my daily life and give me a reason for going on each day and that's just fine with me.

I'm having a bit of an existential crisis lately. Although, normally I don't care what others think of me, THIS is bothering me. I raised 3 children as a stay-at-home full time mother. This was a decision I made with my husband and our own childhood experiences played a large part in this choice of lifestyle. I can confidently say I believed this was my purpose. Because of it though we never had much money, though we did manage to buy a small house in a nice neighborhood with good schools. My children are now career oriented and doing very well, 2 sons and a daughter. My problem now is that, based upon conversations we've had, I don't think they actually respect my choice or the purpose of my life and think I chose to forego a career - out of fear or out of some lack of direction, I'm not completely sure which. I don't think they even understand that perhaps some of their abilities and achievements in their own careers may have been nurtured by their full-time stay-at-home mom! It's kind of a let down for me.

Same situation here! Stay at home mom of 4 grown sons, and often I feel vaguely judged as their lifestyles are more full with careers and child care and scheduled lives. However, one son is a stay at home dad/writer and tends to recognize the choices we made for our family. Definitely hear what you're saying though.

I think that your choices aligned perfectly with your values - which was to be a wonderful mother to your children. My desire was the same and I am grateful that I was able to accomplish my hearts desire. I am sorry that your children do not recognize the many advantages that your life choice - of being a stay at home Mom - made possible.

I'm sorry this is upsetting for you, my friend ❤️ And maybe when your children grow older and have their own children (if they haven't already), they will understand your values better and show you more gratitude for what you've done. I definitely didn't appreciate my parent's choices when I was younger. Now I do.

Sometimes I've looked back on my life and feel regret for not achieving something greater. But then I've lived a fairly good life with opportunities to exhibit kindness, compassion & helps to family and others. I would have loved to do much more. Maybe there will still be opportunity to do more and maybe not. Either way, I must learn to be content and have self love. Thank you for another thoughtful and beautiful video. Hi Ana, I really enjoy these vlogs in which you go deeper into feelings and philosophies. You articulate these things articulately and I find my mind and heart responding and pondering them. I really feel for you and so many others who are living in really difficult circumstances and whose lives have been turned upside down. It reminds me that nothing is certain, only that we will die, and that we suffer because we don't want to acknowledge that. When life is comfortable it is easy not to be grateful and when hardships come along we judge them as bad. We judge others, ourselves and everything else rather than accepting everything as it is. One of the few things we can choose is the way that we think and feel, and this shapes the way we live. I find my life is better when I cultivate gratitude and equanimity, seeking peace behind my thoughts and judgements. A decade ago I suffered a massive break down and it has taken a long time to recover. I ignored body and mind telling me to rest and the consequences were life-changing. I felt that I didn't have choices, but it was only that I was stubbornly pushing myself to keep going toward life as I wanted it to be. However, in other ways the breakdown was blessing and has taught me so much. I love the quote that you have chosen from Lao Tzu, from whom we can learn so much about how to live. Thank you

Today I wrote this to a young person asking if "this is really all there is to life?" : Life's a sandbox game. It doesn't have an external meaning. The meaning is the content that you make yourself. The meaning is in the actions you do while you are doing them. Which can be a scary. It is easier to handle life mentally if there are levels all laid out for you to go through, and there is a known endgame boss (which is why people like religion). But knowing that the meaning is you, that the meaning with life is life, you can wander off. It gives you the opportunity to craft your own world. Sure, you have to gather coins so you can stay alive and have a safe place to be afk. But apart from that: You decide. Which isn't easy, and I have been struggling with it for the last few years. Knowing that the Meaning is in simply doing life, come easy to me. My brain wants there to be a goal. Teachings about letting go of desire has helped me a lot. It seems paradoxical, but somehow the meaning is in letting go of hunting meaning.

Excellent thoughts worthy of pondering. Biologically, our only purpose is to reproduce. But obviously, humans crave a higher purpose. I propose not harming others combined with trying to live with appreciation, serves me for purpose. Loving your images of Romania. One of my favorite places. Have you tried the bread rolled with poppy seeds or their funnel cakes? They are both delicious. P.S. Your sweater looks fabulous on you. Viva autumn!

Dear Ana, I like to follow your videos and find them inspiring. Your voice is soothing and your ideas always make me reflect. So also this time, with the first quote you show from Andre Gide. Reading his biography I cannot but consider this quote being born out of his life, namely his pedophile attraction. Of course his work remains relevant, but should be indeed put into context. For me then his standing will substantially diminish realizing that his exaltation of "being hated for what you are" is actually an alibi for his depravity.

It seems as though my whole life has been a series of once this is taken care of, we'll tackle the next thing. But now there is nothing left on that list.
