@@PONDSAGA5 i have a male 3spot blue gourami named [KING BLUE🔵👑] he das a mate her name was (QUEEN BLUE🔵) he always chased her i put plant in so she could hide he would find her and chase her again he tried mating with her but she would push him away with her tail they were together for a long time one day i was feeding them and i couldn't find her she was in the top corner of the tank scare of him so i tried to move her but she was still fast so i hope the plants would give her cover somewher where he cant find her well later the water smelled funny i looked around and saw her on top of the plants with her tail ripped and a sharp bone was sticking out of the tail he must have ripped her tail so i said he wont have a mate for a while.

I have been there myself. If you look at it from the standpoint of education, it makes things like this turn into educational opportunities instead of thinking of it as a failure. We can't learn if we don't make mistakes. Accepting and taking accountability will help you reach your goals in this hobby. Good luck on your journey. Look forward to seeing your progress. ✌️

I just run filter floss and bio balls in my hang on back filters. Works great. Then just change out floss when needed. Have saved so much money. Great tip.

I miss my 55 gallon tank. I use to have same filters and water pump like yours. They work great.

Bro I'm five minutes in and it's pretty obvious you have lots of pond experience, I think all you might like is a nudge here and there. I AM NOT trying to start any fight or accuse you of doing "bad things", I am eager to help you avoid problems but that means I have to tell it like it is too :) So . . . tiger shovelnose catfish are the biggest no-no in the aquarium trade. The only redeeming feaure is your ready pond AND experience keeping them already, tbh that's the only good answer - for the beginner they are a potential nightmare. Pleco/peacock bass is the same thing (but what a unit indeed that's a monster) - "they're gonna get way too big so don't buy one". Bristlenose (ancistrus) eat algae. Your filter is all about flow and you should generally overcompensate - yes it treats a 50G tank OK but the optimal flow should be about 5 times tank volume per hour (200 G+ like the box says). Direct all of the output of the filter into a bucket for 10 seconds, measure the water amount using gallons or litres, then multiply by 6 then by 60 - this will give you approximate gallons/litres per hour. It should be close to what the box says - if it is not, your filter is overstuffed. I can guarantee you it is overstuffed right now because it's leaking out the overflow 10:50 - that should not be happening at all. The filter NEEDS beneficial bacteria for the nitrogen cycle, these can live in pot scrubbers from the dollar store, Purigen, filter foam, and other things. Heads up pot scrubbers float so they are not a great choice. It should be the last thing the water passes through. Pillow batting is great until it gets dirty then it needs changed and if you don't stop the filter you're gonna have a bad time. Also it should NEVER be dyed. In that filter you want a 2" by 4" piece, that's all, one little layer. What you need more is a sponge/foam insert and some bacteria friendly media, and FLOW like Melle Mel. The paddle on this filter routinely removes the bacteria from the water and exposes it to the open air - this is how smoke can get in to your tank for example. It also exposes the bacteria to other bacteria. But if it's not even turning 11:50 you're totally wasting your time. FYI my opinion is for Aquaclear HOB, I have 30 year old filters from them that run 24/7, they are ultra reliable. Also every wire coming out of the tank needs a drip loop if ti doesn't have one, this is safety 101. Mount power bars vertically to avoid them sitting in water. Label your cords so you know what is what. Use timers for your lights. Good luck and happy fishkeeping :)
