I want to copy my recorded shows off my Directv DVR onto a external drive or thumb drive and then plug the drive into my other RV Directv DVR and watch my shows. How can this be done?

How about removing the hard drive from the TiVo or DirecTivo and booting up a PC in Linnux to try to read and copy files temporarily to the Linnux PC? Who knows how to do this?

Just record your shows to a DVD. It won't be in HD, but it can be done. Also, if you disconnect your esata drive and reboot your DVR, all your shows will still be on the original HDD.

there is not way to keep the recording, no matter if is an external or internal hard drive. the copyright encryption will block the content from one dvr to another. even if they are the same kind of recievers. I been DIRECTV tech for 5 years I even swap the internal drive one time on my box and I don't work.

I have 5 dvr. All have movies I saved. I moved, & didn't renew Direct tv. But still could use dvrs to watch movies. That was 7 yrs ago. I got a new 4k smart tv & can't plug it on that to watch movies. Maybe my berm tv non smart tv. If that don't work. Then what?.....any idea's ? .

My dad canceled a box but I still have it and all info is still there I checked the storage and it said 23 gb left. Unfortunately it’s locked I would need to try to unlock it or something else. The hard drive was bad but I tried so many resets that I finally got passed the self check, it’s from July 2008 so it’s really old

Remove internal HDD, clone to an image file, like ISO, using HDD usb adapter to another computer, Get bigger HDD, Restore image to bigger HDD disk. Expand fs to use the extra free space. In theory this is how you upgrade a computers hard drive without a huge software reinstall.

a haupaugh hd pvr can get "ALL the content" off of the directv dvr in mp4 format and retail excellent quality.

either you have a crappy internet connection, or cant read, the movie is only 2:51 long

a VLC Media player will play the direct tv files www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Players/? ... now to get them is dont format the drive at all ... use Ontrack EasyRecovery Enterprise to read the drive in its current state as straight out of the unit .... it will not show as a drive on your pc .... Ontrack EasyRecovery Enterprisewill see it as a RAW Drive .. pick the largest partition to scan or you can do all them .. it will take a long time to scan but, be patient ... once done you will need a large blmk formated drive to save them too .. use the VLC Media Player to open the file to play .. Your Welcome , learned this in less than 2 Hrs LOL ps , where you get the Ontrack EasyRecovery Enterprise is o you lol , maybe use Frostwire lol

This is old information, there are plenty of videos out there know showing you how to crack these drives no problem. If you hav an extra sata connection on your pc you can access it with some Linux software free for download! Update your stuff dude lol.....

I'm not very tech savvy but back in my the day you just pop in a video tape on a vcr and record whatever it was that was coming on do they have anything like that now only with like say a Blu-ray disc ?
