❤❤ quite a few mistakes. Wow I thought it was just me. I did a wedding cake for 500 people and I didn’t take a deposit down and it looks like they broke up so no one showed up and I was stuck with the bill that I had to pay my friend because he help me with it we were going to do half-and-half, that’s one another time she said she wanted to have flowers and I said no big deal I mean I didn’ know how much the flowers were big mistake I live and learn and don’t trust friends and family are the worst. They want everything for free. Thank you so much you help me so much.

Hi Karolyn just a quick question I’m a beginner and I alway though the customer alway picks up there cake unless it’s a wedding cake that needs to be set up (I’m not there yet and to scared to do a wedding cake) but do you deliver all cake. Love from Australia 🇦🇺

Hey girl! I offer delivery for all of my cakes, but it is an extra charge. I typically charge a flat rate of $25 and add $2.25 per mile (one way_ plus any tolls. So if someone was 10 miles away across the bridge that costs $5 in tolls to cross, it will be $25, plus $22.50 (10 miles x $2.25 per mile 1 way), plus $5 bridge toll = $52.50. If they don't want to worry about transporting the cake, they will pay you to do it! Just let them know up front that there is the option. Hope that helps!

I love your videos. Have you ever tried stabilized buttercream icing?? Its made with high ratio shortening instead of butter and you can not tell the difference. It wont melt like butter will. I personally hate the taste of fondant and suggesting fondant raises the price of the cake, usually. Just a suggestion.

I've made it with half butter/half shortening and also all shortening. I live in Alabama so its imperative to have a stable substitute. I got the recipe on KZbin. I Watch Krazy Kool Kakes and Edna de la Cruz channels for awesome icing recipes.

Yeah...don't make them!😂😂😂 But seriously, just know that it takes a lot of time to make all those squares. And if you're trying to make a cube with the squares, it's VERY difficult to get them all to line up evenly! I would just do it on a round cake to save time and aggravation!

As I've built my business, I've been getting leads all over the place. I think it's easier for customers to contact me through whatever platform they are on, rather than try to find a specific site to go to. After someone contacts me on any platform, I direct them to my email, which is where I like to do all of my business. I hope that makes sense!

one mistake ive made is assuming a customer would like an added pic or symbol ect... on the cake. -i wont do that anymore lol. just because we like something or think it looks great, doesn;t mean they will. great tips, thank you

Good point! Sometimes people are very specific as to what they want and even though we may not like it, it's what they want so we do it! Those are always the hardest to make because we hardly have any creative control.

I literally say what you just said. I and I ask them to send me pictures of invitations / decorations they are using so I can try to match the color as best as possible.

One regret i have and lesson learned when i started doing cakes was chargeing less for cakes. because they were church members or friends. I was loooseing money. Nor i checked to see how much were other cake bussinesess chargeing in my state.

Yes! The people ordering from you wouldn't work for free at their jobs, so why should they expect you to? We all do it in the beginning because we are so glad to get the orders and want to help friends out. But there comes a time where you need to be compensated fairly!

That's happened to me before, and I made the cake and she never picked it up. So I will never make that mistake again! LOL I have a policy that the cake MUST be paid in full 10 days prior to pickup or I won't make it. I would just reach out to him / her and remind them that the money is due if they still want you to make it.

I've been getting more people who prefer to order through social media. Which is ok, but I always ask for their email so I can send all of the deposit and other info. It's too much to type and attach in social media DM's. So I'll send that through email and sometimes they reply through social media. And I just make a note of it on the order form so I remember where to get back to them. That's why I always screen shot to my email so I remember to get back to everyone. It's overwhelming when you get inquiries from 8 different places!

Name check - I ALWAYS text the customer right before I am about to make or write the name (or age) and ask them to confirm AGAIN that it is "BARBARA age 10" I sometimes as them to text me back with the exact spelling and age even if I just sent it correctly so it is OFFICIAL. :)
