It's very helpful for people who really try to do things on their own, but you will be surprised how many people don't even know where the terminal is, and as a recommendation move the BHR to the main area of your house to improve wifi connections. Great video.

Thank you very much! I did it. However, Verizon is now sending me slightly SLOWER speeds, which I tested before and after Verizon switched my service from the coax cable to the new stupid router. And Verizon doesn't tell people that the ethernet outlet is located inside the white box. I also saw the blinking green lights stop after the switch was done. I'm sure they make millions with this racket: $150 for a technician and I don't know how much for monthly upgrade. We're all getting duped.

Hello Steve, Their reps are trained that way and " Must " follow that protocol or lose their job. That's why almost all phone conversations with reps are recorded for what they say to you for customer service and training quality ( etc ) This is B.S. You should know by now it's all about corporate profits. The customer right now is considered collateral damage if they get caught in the sniper scope of corporate profit crossfire. Remember any corporations CEO works for the board of directors not you. His allegiance is to them. Why? They elected him, he owes them . His job is to make his and the board of directors members profits as high as possible he because he and they own most all of the premium stock in that corporation. In turn he is retained and given 6 dollar salary, outlandish perks and retirement dollars and stock options as well as pension and benefits for life and some are retained as consoles to them. Retired but still working for them. You and I are not on their radar screen. If the year end profit margin is not profitable they layoff hundreds or thousands of workers to make the numbers meet their expectations. The board of directors wins, the CEO wins and we lose. It's that simple Steve and a fact.

Thanks for the video! In my case, I was only inquiring as to costs without a land line phone but with just FiOS Internet. The Verizon Customer Service Rep. spoke with an accent, and tried to upsell me based on what her computer said that I had a legacy FiOS service 50/50. She was difficult to understand and I kept asking for the Supervisor, but never got to talk to one. When the FiOS was installed over 10 years ago, 2 Verizon technicians came with ladders to route the coax cable from the big box in the garage, up across crossbeams, then down through a drilled wall, to then follow a path under my mobile home skirting to the room where the router and computer are. It would have to be replaced, like you said, but an Ethernet cable, but what type I would not know. Then she said it would cost $149. I did not approve of this; then she typed back to her Supervisor who then typed back to her that Verizon would waive one half the charge. Remember, all I wanted was to inquire a price for just FiOS Internet. I told her that I would have to think about it., thanked her and hung up. Not even a minute later, she called me back, and said Verizon would the Ethernet wiring connection for free. I am still thinking about it. I am really considering to remove the phone from the service, as due to the multiple SPAM calls I get on a daily basis (between 3 to 8 daily which I do not answer). I am still thinking as the reduction in charge from a 50/50 Internet plus phone is $87.00 approx., to $69.00 just for a higher speed Internet.

Thanks Dude. I just bought a home in New Port Richey FL which had that FIOS equipment in the garage. Now I know what to do with it - If I want to use Verizon instead of Spectrum.

And I just realized and had to learn today that I needed a ethernet cable instead of coaxial to even get the speed I am paying for Oh and to top it all off???? They want to charge $149 to do it. Yes but it will work for Gigabit that is the Gen 4 router I have it as well and I was in tech support for Verizon. @@teebee4992 Yes it can accept coax it will work with up to 100 mbps but Ethernet for 150 mbps and up. It is also needed for set top boxes or you connect Fios extender via coax but the Fios extender can also work via Ethernet if you use CAT 5e or up from the router to extender.

@@NO-END Im an NT for Verizon and I can tell you we used to be able to push temp profiles to over 400 over coax but they removed that feature for us now. And all the Verizon routers have to have coax on them to provide connections to the cable boxes since there are some things that your router provides from the internet for your TV service.. Although there is a way around getting the cable boxes to work with a 3rd party router and a moca to ethernet adapter.. And for the record that new 3100 router is really nice but over priced imo. The only dif between the G1100 and 3100 is the fact that the 3100 has wifi 6 so you will notice much improved wifi. Oh and no, the tech will not fish ethernet for you unless you get a tech who is willing and able to do it. That why verizon gets so many calls to support about weak wifi because the tech will normally set up the router right next to the ONT since they usually dont run ethernet all over the house. And guess where most ONTs are located... The basement *smh*
@NO-END
@NO-END 4 жыл бұрын
@@YanksOnTop right wcb6200q extender would get 400 mbps via coax if you hardwired but g1100 would not weird. You're right they do techs don't want run CAT cable to far end of house but sometimes the customer don't want them drill holes either. I found that out when I went to the line gang techs complain about that a lot. Customers want techs to wire there house I mean I understand to some degree they want fishing behind sheet rock that is not reality lol. My ONT is Outside but the router is 10 feet on other side of wall but we know our setup some customers may not know that.

Yeah I upgraded recently. I was back and forth with Verizon installation what needs to be done. They mentioned a cable had to be run between the ONT and the router. I inquired as to what kind? They told me CAT6. Being a former telephone Man I ran it myself but let them terminate the plugs. The plug ends are called RJ45 and have a specific wire color code. I didnt want to buy a Crimper for 2 crimps and never use it again. Yeah I got roped into their upgraded router and I heard you can use other routers but that's a story and install for another day.

I tested speeds before and after Verizon turned on the ethernet port. My speeds are definitely slower. That's how they get customers to spend more on an upgrade.

Outer suburbs of Boston. Things have changed a lot. When Verizon notified me five years ago, that they were transitioning my copper landline to fiber (at no charge), I had them do it. ONT is small, black and mounted inside my basement. Two years ago, I took advantage of their FIOS 200/200 for $40 plan and had them hook me up. Only wrinkle was that there were broken fibers on the street (their problem, fixed while I waited). The install tech (Verizon employee) could not have been more helpful. I have a Netgear R7000 router, right next to the ONT, and had a cable ready for him to plug into the RJ45 on the ONT. No install charge, no other charges, just $40/month and I'm actually getting 300/300 because the network node is lightly loaded (guy said only about 1/2 the 32 positions were being used). Very happy with FIOS, and the more you know, the less likely you are to be taken advantage of. BTW, you do NOT need CAT6 cable for GigE. I'm running it over CAT3 (under 100 feet) with 0 errors or retries. But CAT5 will work fine for home use.

I want to do this, but my box is outside....I don't want to drill a hole, through brick and all into my house...I do have cables running along the ouside of my house, so getting a black ethernet cable and zip tieing them together isn't a problem....just drilling the hole. lol

we are upgrading to the faster internet while talking to customer service about the upgrade they sent us an Ethernet cable they said it's easy to hook up I was looking for the another box besides the gray box with the Ethernet hookup in the garage, unfortunately the box customer service is talking about is mounted on the exterior of the house so not as easy as customer service thought, well I'll have to fish the wire through. Thank you for the information I was looking for.

In fairness to Verizon, your situation is quite unusual. Your router is extremely close to your ONT and you have the newer ONT. I upgraded my Verizon Fios speed yesterday and the guy did ask me whether my router was within 6 feet of my router because I would then be able to install it myself. Unfortunately, my router is quite far away and on another floor, so I can't do a self-installation. In addition, I have the older ONT that is not capable of 1 gig speed, to begin with. While what happened to you is indeed a rip-off, it's not a rip off for many other people.

The comment about the actiontec mi424 is wrong. They can and always had the option for ethernet wan to the ons, you just needed to demand it at install. Also, you don't need their routers at all. We have pfsense running as our gateway via etherent. It also looks like they either didn't install, or stole your 12v 7ah UPS lead acid battery from your ONT...

@@tanishq131 that's true, they used to install it by default. You now have to demand it at install, they won't supply the 12v 7ah battery anymore either. We had to go out and buy ours.

Sorry, I missed something. What is the point of going through Ethernet vs coax? I'm curious as to if it'll benefit me but I'm guessing not at all, due to my setup: -FiOS TV (I use the Frontier STB box) -2 Moca Bridges attached in other rooms to increase Wi-fi signal and have Ethernet ports available -My house is not wired for Ethernet. I have three rooms that have coax leads into them, to which I've connected my router and two MoCa Bridges.
