Braid has many advantages especially in the heavy breaking strain and with baitacaster reels. But...in the ultralight ratings it's not always the answer and does suffer from line twist when using fixed spool reels, which leads to so called 'wind knots'. However, I also love braid because it has virtually no stretch and allows very direct contact with the lure. The colour doesn't make much difference, but a flourocarbon leader is a must have.

I think the people hating in the comments dont know how to fish. Braid is a great thing if you learn to use it properly. Took me a while but it is almost all i use for all techniques. Fish will bite if there is food. Yes, i have used 65lbs braid on bluegill and they bite just fine. Try it if you don't believe me. And that brand is decent and not expensive for those complaining about that. Best wishes to you and your family.

With braided line on baitcasters i reccomend 30lb atleast. Anything less will dig into the spool since its so thin and end up snapping or more frequent birdsnest, anything thicker then 40 is good for frogging or smashing thick brush or weeds. Its alot thinner then mono so you can afford to up the lb with no sacrifice of weight or diameter up to a certain test

I’d personally recommend using mono backing and only the amount of braid you need to fish that pond or stream as your not going to get a fish run far. I have even wrapped cloth on the spool under my line to pack it for casting further. Saves a lot of money on expensive braids that never see sunlight. I guess also keeping pressure on your line as you reel it in helped me as slack causes the . My game reel i tie my line to the car and get a mate to drive it up the road and reel it in with pressure and assure i feed it back on with a pattern as the reels too big for line guides.

@@Un11Hoe if your pond is only 20yds across 35yds of braid connected to mono is plenty enough. Why spend good money not to lose a fish or turtle when the next one is only moments away? All good. @Un11Hoe
@Un11Hoe 10 ай бұрын
@@Its_Shaun_the_Sheep yikes, spiderwire is that much nowadays? no wonder your on the fence about backing lol. ive used it before and to me its no better then beyond braid or even the cheaper stuff like Hercules or kastkings brand. i would suggest looking for a 8 strand cheaper option thats ppe. 8 strands makes the braid more round and smoother coming off the spool. theres no reason to be spending $60 on 300yrds. i have noticed also the higher lb test seems to be cheaper for some brands also so thats something to consider. to each their own!

Obviously depends on what you are fishing for, but 50 lbs is excessive. I fish 15 lb braid cause the line diameter is equivalent to like 4 lb mono, I forget exactly the conversion. It cast a lot smoother. I use a fluorocarbon leader too so the fish are not as likely to see the braid. I can fight a much bigger fish with the drag and the rod, but if I get hung up, breaking that 50 lb line off is tough

65lb braid no-leader baitcaster. Everyone laughed at me back then cus they followed the traditional marketing of plastic fc and mono. I catch multi-species of fish from Panfish, Bass, Walleye, Pike, Salmon, and even finicky Trouts. Not even a bait caster. One got in a knot as I was trying to untangle it. Now have 14 rods 2 of which have braid. But not for much longer. Must be something I don't know about. But no time to fish really anyways just work work work... that said I don't take disasters to the lake with me, or even potential disasters. Maybe if I lived on a lake of worth. So no it's not silly. For all my fishing down under here in Australia I use the lightest braid possible and 4-6’ of fluorocarbon leader joined together with an FG knot. I prefer a high vis braid for fishing in low light conditions. The fluoro leader prevents the fish seeing the braid and adds high abrasion resistance to the business end. I can’t speak for snapping turtles though as we don’t have them in Oz. Do they hit lures? 🎣
