im starting to want to avoid newer Briggs products at all costs. first these throw away engines requiring no oil change and now plastic carbs. what a cheap shoddy company. they may as well just have their products completely made in china. im getting so sick of the garbage being produced these days.

Hey Steve, love your videos bro and I appreciate you taking the time making and editing them for us. I don’t know if you’ve done a video on those aggravating craftsmen / tecumseh carburetors where they will run only if you’re priming the prime bulb and they die as soon as you stop priming. There’s that secret little hole tucked inside in between the threads that can’t be seen but it’s there. I used clean that little hole with a staple by flatlining one end and poking that clogged hole located between the threads. I can’t tell you how many free craftsman mowers I’ve found in alleyways that had that issue. It’s a ten or 20 minute fix depending on how many beers I feel like drinking during the cleaning, and when I’m done I’ll sell it as a $50 dollar mower all day long. Didn’t know if you have done a video on that specific craftsman / tecumseh engine or not so I apologize if you did and I just overlooked it. But if you didn’t, man that would be a great video to do and you would be saving the pride of many married men lol. Always great stuff on your channel Steve and if you decide to make the video, shoot me a shoutout at Big Jim!

Thanks for the .020 drill bit boring on the plastic carb. My mower has been outside in winter, summer, etc. for 3 yrs because it would not stay running after a hard start. After your video, I cleaned it up, removed flywheel and removed all the rust, and lastly, drilled out the main jet to 20 thousands. Started on second pull and after smoking a bit due to Seafoam has been running great. Thanks for all your hard work and research. I had given up prior to seeing your video. Kudos my friend, may God bless you.

Some people don't know they are sales reps until they are sales reps. You're a natural man! Good for you and I enjoy the content. By sales rep I mean you have the persona and personality to engage with the audience and you sell people on your knowledge and ability to present. The successful YT channels I watch have both great content material, but more important, great presentations. It's the way of the future for watching a video. Thanks to KZbin for this opportunity! We must admit, KZbin has been a life-changer for many of us both from a learning perspective to full-time gigs for many. That's so cool. It's called the ultimate freedom.

I posted this on the earlier video that you linked to and thought I should post it here as well . . . . . .There are also tiny (bread twist tie sized) holes in the emulsion tube. Yes, there is an emulsion tube in that cartridge, and it will clog. The cartridge is two pieces, and when you separate them (with a precision screwdriver), you will see the holes on the center tube, just as on any other carb. I cleaned one just day before yesterday that had something that looked like a tiny piece of algae covering two of the holes and all of them were clogged with the "Annual Ethanol Scale" (Spring is in the air in Middle Georgia!). I've done a dozen or so of these plastic carbs and so far, cleaning the emulsion tube holes has done the trick. I haven't seen the main jet problem yet, though. I got here from your newer video on the tube being loose , , ,(this video) . . . and blocking the choke. I haven't seen that one yet, either, but it is good to know. Thanks for posting these videos👍 . . . Hope this helps

Hey Steve, Just wanted to say thank-you for posting vids on these carburetors. I went through all three and they really helped! I like to play with the antique stationary gas engines pre-1930s as a hobby. These modern ones have quirks that the old ones don't, so its really nice to have a preview guide before working on one of these modern engines. They're a real time saver and really help to prevent making silly mistakes. Got my surging mower fixed in less than an hour! Thanks for all your good work!

Steve, your channel is the BEST!!! I just ran into that plastic bushing problem. The mower was not running . I took the carb off, cleaned and enlarged the jets with a torch tip cleaner wire files and when I put it back together and it was running rich with the choke not opening. I took the carb back off, pulled the choke flap out and the choke shaft and sure thing, the bushing was not in place correctly. I installed it correctly with the notch seated on the plastic inside the barrel of the carb, put all back together and it runs like brand new. Thanks so much for sharing your wealth of useful information.

Steve, thank you ever so much for your videos. You have been a huge help for me especially on this video about the plastic ring in the throat where the jet cartridge went. That was exactly my problem as the choke butterfly wouldn't open fully. Now it is back to normal. I did find an easier way to get the new jet cartridge in place by putting a thumb on each end of the cartridge and wiggling it back and forth and it will inset a whole lot easier. I will try to start the mower tomorrow and I decided in the future if I have any trouble, I am going to put in an inline fuel filter and try drilling out the main jet to about 0.013 like you had in another great video. Thanks again for your videos!

Hi Steve. Perfect. I actually figured this out myself. At one point I was cleaning out the carb did not realize this piece actually fell out. a bit off topic but to do with carbs Steve. I've got a Honda GCV160 which was chugging. to get to the carb you can't just take the air filter off, the whole thing falls off the engine. I cleared the jets with carb cleaner and some small tooth cleaning brushes, put it back together and it ran way over revving cut my grass in 5minutes but not good as you say over revving will wreck the engine. Thank you for your 2018 video on the engines govener. I looked at the springs the top shaft was bowing and the bottom spring was tight hence the over revving as you explained in your video. For some reason I'd put the whole lump back not quite right. After looking at your video I took it back off and refitted it really carefully. The top shaft was straight and the bottom spring was no longer tight and the mower ran like a dream. Just needed to put it back very carefully and look at the springs to know you've done it Havin a beer now after doing this a Fuller's London pride as I'm from the UK.

I bought my Toro push B&S 550EX four years ago. It ran wonderfully the first year. The second season [no winter service] the mower would not start. So began my journey to get the Toro running. I probably had to take the carb off four times before the fuel ran clean. The third season [no winter service] again had to clean the carb, but the Toro ran funny and rich. This season same problem, but I finally noticed the butterfly valve closed problem. lol...The secret cylinder sleeve insert. I now think I'm an expert with this funny little plastic carb.

Came across your video earlier, I have this exact same carb on my mower. Did exactly what you said, except I didn't need to drill the hole out because a twisty tie went through fine. Put it back together, put fresh gas in & it fired up on the second pull. Thank's so much!!

Thank you sir! 100 stars review is awarded. You've saved me a few gray hairs this time. I've had a couple battles with one of these 'new' bleepedey blank blanking carbs but I'm on the same page when it comes to firguring out why stuff stops working. I rarley give up on a machine before I find out how it works and why it aint. Lose my temper - Yes. Give up - Yes, but always go back later and keep pluggiung away until it's works or in a few rare cases where I decied to smash with a sledge hammer :O

I've cleaned100's of these and never have found this to be the case. When I put the cartridge back in I always look for the hole before attempting to put the cartridge back in and make sure the pipe thing a ma jig is fully seated and aligned. The choke lever hitting the carb bracket is what I see a lot of. Great tip Steve. Love your videos.

Despite these carburetors being made of plastic, Briggs and Stratton has made it to where they are very easy to replace. Part of their new engine design was to be easy to repair and work on. These plastic carburetors aren’t that bad. The main problem is that they clog easily, so if gas is left in for a year, that’s a new plastic carburetor that is gonna be a simple “slide on” job.

You have to enlarge the idle jet with a torch tip cleaning wire file. Use non ethanol gasoline and you can leave the gas in it. I've never ran an engine dry over the winter.

That was a cool tip, it was. Just put my mower back together 30 min ago (prob was it ran for a while and would die) and discovered the choke was stuck (different carb) and I had put the that long vane arm (Briggs 6hp, next to the flywheel) on the wrong side of the little thermal arm. hmmm... no idea how it even ran this last year. It's a good idea to go straight to that choke and make sure it's working properly. Oh, and I replaced the carb, then while carefully tightening that little shoulder pivot screw on the choke vane I broke the end off the new carburetor. Luckily I had another spare. Time to order two more.

I love your videos. You make them informative as well as fun to watch. Anyway I have taken my poulon pro lawnmower in to a business numerous times just like the lady in your 16 minute video. Sure wish you had worked there. I have never been able to finish cutting my yard with this mower in the 7 years it has sat in my garage. I do think they should do a recall on this part. Thank you so much for making this video. I took your advice and drilled that out with the tiny drill bit you recommended and so far so good. The teeny tiny size brigs and Stratton put in was definitely way too small. No wonder it was always clogged up and my lawnmower never ran. Thank you sir. Cheers 🍻
