Sometimes it's perspective, sometimes it's understanding what an appropriate expression is, rarely is it actual behavior modification for me, but all of these things are necessary and it's astonishing to me to look back and see, the more I learn, how little I was given in my upbringing.

Noted, and rightly so, for great wit as well as intellectual acuity. The "issues" of his time developed into the trends of the 20th century (he was a bit older than Lewis), so it is of more than academic interest towards understanding what has happened since the "great war".

so redeem the word "use" as it differs from "abuse" and redeem the mantra "act like men" as it differs from "happy wife happy life"
@jjmonty80902 жыл бұрын
Perhaps one should also consider redeeming the phrase happy wife, happy life. There is nothing objectively wrong with having a happy wife. It does lead to a happier life. The reason we don’t like the phrase is because it means to everyone that we should give our wives everything they want. Yet our wives are most happy when we are godly, strong men and in our place as leader of our homes. This way makes my wife happy, thus, “happy wife, happy life”.
@scottmacdonald51702 жыл бұрын
@@jjmonty8090 I think the deeper meaning is men avoiding the wrath of their wife by keeping them happy. That's a bad goal. Sure it could be redeemed somewhat to mean that we want to contribute to our wives happiness. But overall, I'm not a fan of even a partially redeemed phrase because it undermines the covenantal nature of marriage. If falls off the horse to one side so to speak.
@jjmonty80902 жыл бұрын
@@scottmacdonald5170 I understand your point and agree that usually, that is what the phrase would mean. What I am doing is fighting back against the "other" side of the ditch, that is, where men here on this thread (and anytime Wilson posts a man/wife video) take it too far as far. Some of the posts show despicable men gathering Biblical ammo to use against their wives, forgetting that their wives are the other part of THEM. (Eph 5)... Forgetting that the marriage is a representation of Christ... Forgetting the man's role of dying for his bride...if they ever knew at all. Yes, feminism is rampant. Yes, men are cast in a negative light. Yes, the scales should be just and balanced. Yes, wives have done wrong. But why should we allow the pendulum to swing, with severity again, this time toward men's rights and exaltation? May it never be. May we disciple our young men and old to know that they carry the weight of leadership, authority, responsibility, kingship/priesthood etc. AND teach them the beauty, royalty, wonder, intoxication of love (Prov 5) etc. of the wife of our youth. She is the most precious gift one could ever receive, outside of the grace and Salvation of our Lord.

@@jjmonty8090 "But why should we allow the pendulum to swing, with severity again, this time toward men's rights and exaltation?" You've got a problem with men's rights? I have multiple questions that I desire to have unraveled. First, you make almost no case for men who would be considered to be more "emotional" than most others. Second, in your eighth video you mention that you shouldn't tell the girl you are taking out anything big about your personal life. I thoroughly disagree with this point. I am not going to take up this wonderful young woman's valuable time and not let her know what she is getting herself into with me. Now, I am not saying that I don't have a lot to offer, I do, but I believe with all my heart that a woman deserves to know what kind of lifestyle I plan on leading her in for the rest of our existence sooner rather than later. What happens if we go on all these dates and I have told her extremely little about myself and I have made a good impression on her, as you said by my following your advice, when she asks me where I see myself in ten years and I say at a pulpit somewhere in Japan? She had no intentions of ever leaving the U.S and now all of a sudden we have a major issue at hand. We went on all these dates thinking we might work out only to find that our plans for the future are drastically different to the point that we can no longer be together? Now we are both left with a sad reality and heartbreak that could have been avoided on day one if I had only shared the path of life I planed on leading this entire time.

@ChickenHeart he’s deliberately getting people’s attention with the title so they’ll click? The horror. It stands out because the thought of making your wife a lesbian is strange and obviously counterproductive, so one wonders what they could possibly do to accomplish that. And then he tells them. Truth in advertising
@@cosmictreason2242 O.K. I'm going to try this again. It seems they deleted my reply to you. A Christian husband is not going to turn his wife into a lesbian because he is not "manly" enough. It's absurd. With all this dire advice, Doug's "nephew" must be a nervous wreck. I would be very surprised if "he" EVER got married.

I'm sorry pastor, but this was awful. It was painful to listen to you read your script. Talk to us with some personal passion. Some of your arguments/reasons were thoughtless church drivel. I'm sure you can do better.

Don't be surprised if they delete your post or shadow-ban you. Happens all the time to those who don't toe the party line that Pastor Doug is the last word in theology and Biblical manhood.
