Six years as a rv technician,I can absolutely tell you to, LISTEN TO BILL & DEB!. They know exactly what they are talking about when building a CTC!. I've worked on every major brand of commercial rv, including Airstreams over the years. And not one of them will last as long as Bill & Deb's cargo trailer conversion will. In fact I am using many of their ideas in my own ctc because they are excellent ways of making sure that I can have a trailer without the multiple issues that commercial rv's constantly suffer from. Reliability and ease of maintenance is the name of to game when you live full time in your rv. I'll get down off of my soap box now. Thank you guy's for all the great ideas.. 👍😊

I really love the tips tricks and advice that you two share with us. ❤❤❤To the guy who said that they put wiring and plumbing in the walls of a house. They also tear out the walls if there’s any leaks or shorts or if mice eat your wiring.

Hi Bill & Deb. For over a year now I've watch many , many Videos on insulating Cargo Vans and Cargo Trailers and this is by far the best video I've ever seen, bar none. Your method of insulating will work great in Van Conversions also. I'm currently closing down my business of 26 years and retiring so I can convert my G30 Van so I can not only start camping but start living and loving it. Think's for all the hard work you and Deb have done making your video's and sharing your knowledge and experiences with everyone.

I love these tips & tricks videos that you are doing. I for 1 would love it if you could address picking a cargo trailer company &/or a dealership that is willing to work with custom orders. I have been looking and have put out feelers to a couple of companies with no reply. This makes me worry. Thanks for all you do

Excellent advice on building out a CTC and the need to preplan as much as you can!! I have also watched the Cache Camper KZbin channel and it is quite interesting to see the inner workings of the slide in campers and trailers they make and repair. Quality work and great explanations of how they do things. I am enjoying your new series on building tips!

I really like this series and hope that you will tie them together or catalog them so that in the future I can watch them all without having to search but I don't even know if that is a thing. Anyway it is very helpful to have these ideas and tips to use as a basis on all the things involved in building out your own trailer. 1. Could you have just had them put the plywood in the trailer without attaching it. Just stacked up on floor? What would be the down side to that? 2. Does the floor come with insulation or did you think that the 3/4 inch floor plus 3/4 foam board was sufficient? 3. Does your floor flex under you between the grid you built when standing directly on foam board? Thanks again for all the details.

Mississippi has something called Yazoo Clay, I was told about this from my brother n law who lives there. After we had to make a trip over from Ga. The Yazoo Clay swells when it rains and shrinks when it's dry. So it's a constant moving. That's why their roads are like lol driving down railroad tracks. Made me appreciate Ga roads. Enjoyed another great video guys.

Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I have an '88 fireball fiver whose wiring is old and failing. Okay. I'm not tearing out walls to replace wires. I'm installing new wiring with race track covers and race track outlets- easier to repair/replace when needed.

Cool. We often thought if we were to buy an older traditional RV or Motor Home, we'd pretty much "gut" the interior, then clip all the existing wiring flush with the wall and then re-wire from scratch. We're glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for watching.

Love these tips and tricks! I’ve been following your builds and interviews, and using the same techniques in my build. The only thing I did differently was skip the plywood directly against the exterior skin for through-wall fittings. My thinking is that if you do get a small leak, I’d rather have foam that doesn’t absorb moisture, rather than plywood against the skin. Where exterior screws are needed, they can reach the 1” through the foam to hit the interior furring strips. (I ran 6” wide furring strips at top and bottom for just this purpose, 3” for the rest of the strips). Keep the good content and ideas coming!

We didn't cover it in the video, but we also shot Lexel in the pilot holes before we ran a screw and ran a bead of Lexel on the back side of the flange on every exterior fixture. Thanks for sharing. That's a great idea. Water leaks are a mutual concern.

The first step is to determine the intended use and environmental conditions of the vehicle and how you will heat or cool it.

So that’s where I10 got its number. It’s 10.0 on the Richter Scale! Worst interstate we’ve ever been on. The bottoms of the camper drawers came out, closet rod snapped off, and some broken dishes. Definitely a rolling earthquake. Maybe some viewers could send you pictures of their best ideas and share them?

Word of advice do not use spray foam that touches the outer inside wall. In hot weather the metal expands and you will have warped panels and my outside walls have no screws and this is worse because it will pull panel adhesive off and create dirt entering into crack and will not bond back over time when it contracts. You can use very thin sheet foam against the inside exterior wall and then spray foam because the foam board is not firmly bonded to wall and will allow for expansion.

For installing a wider window like one for an emergency exit. Do you have any suggestions or know of anyone who would know how best to frame it and what to do about heat so you don't booger the aluminum skin welding it in? I'm researching things still.... This new series is going to be very helpful! Thank you!

when you installed your windows did you use the rubber gaskets that were on the windows?

Yes. They were nice gaskets. We were prepared to use butyl tape but didn't need to. Haven't had any leaks in almost 4 years.

@bigdaddysshop818013 күн бұрын
What did you use to adhere the foam to the walls?
@billanddeb13 күн бұрын
For the most part, we cut it tight enough that it pretty much held itself in place until we covered it with the interior skin. For those stubborn spots, we simply used construction adhesive.
@spaddriver195713 күн бұрын
You can get foam safe adhesive from Home Depot or Lowes. I used loctite PL polyurethane construction adhesive. It says on the side that it is foam safe.

Ok…I’m taking notes and when it comes to the window, I am wanting a window that I will have to cut a stud, so why was it that you couldn’t stop the leaks because of cutting the stud? Inquiring minds want to know LOL
@billanddeb13 күн бұрын
Not really. They just did a poor job sealing the windows. We didn't want to cut studs because we didn't have anyone or the materials to properly weld up a suitable frame.
