Excellent suggestion on backing off on the watering when hardening off... makes perfect sense and have never heard any other gardener on KZbinr mention that. As usual, I learned a lot from you today. Love your channel!

My local nursery is now carrying Coop Gro and Pro mix fpx! Got 25 lbs. Of coop gro for 24.95 and a huge bag of pro mix for 32 bucks. It's night and day compared to what I was getting at the local big box store. I see why it's all you use. I'm definitely hooked on pro mix. I'll know about the fertilizer soon enough

I always start hardening off my plant close to the house and shaded. Helps block wind. Then after a few days I keep moving them further out so they receive more sun and wind. Makes the pretty tuff by the time they get planted out in a week or two.. Works fantastic.

I grow seedlings in my house-- I use window screens stacked over the plants to shade them from the sun. I start them three screens deep. It takes about 7 days to transition to full sun. I usually try to start the process on a cloudy day. In my area it still is freezing overnight when I do this, so they have to come inside. But I find the sunlight transition is far more important than temperature.

Jeff from East Tennessee.Travis, it makes me so happy to see those tomatoes come up. Tomatoes came up right on time!! Zinnias and marigolds jumped up very fast. Now just waiting on my peppers to come up!! That’s another happy day!! I like to get my plants outside as soon as possible!! When we have days in the 70’s out they go. I will take them out and bring them in every chance I get!! On cool spells and rain they stay under grow lights. I do grow a lot of plants. For friends and coworkers. They don’t have much luck starting seeds but I have been told that I can grow a plant out of a rock. Seeding plants is one of my favorite things to do!! Now just working on becoming a more well rounded gardener.

I now have a covered porch on the south side of my house and I used it to harden off my plants this year. Moving them closer to the edge and into the sun everyday. It's been my most successful year yet. I always struggle with the process and end up losing some plants. Didn't know about letting them dry out. Thanks

When transitioning plants from indoor to outdoor environments for hardening off, I opt for employing sizable, transparent, and sturdy plastic containers to shield the young vegetation from potent winds. Furthermore, this method facilitates the plants’ adaptation to sunlight amidst windy conditions, ensuring that no opportunities for sun exposure are missed.

I enjoyed this, I can’t wait to start sowing! I do start seeds indoors under lights, so they need to be hardened off. I’m not fond of carrying trays in and out, so I have a system that works without that. About a week before it’s time to transplant into the garden I bring up the trays of seedlings and put them in the shade in a part of my garden that only gets early morning sun. When the sun comes up the next day they just get an hour or two of gentle early morning sunlight. Every day I move the trays a little further out so they get longer hotter sunshine. If we get an unseasonably cold night I will bring them in, but I generally don’t have to. I have been hardening off that way for donkeys years so I can emphatically state that it works! Klaus

I don't know how long you've been waiting on the purple tomatoes but mine came up in less than a week. Now I only planted two (I've already got too many tomatoes planted but couldn't resist trying them) and both came up and they're growing fast. I hope you get some of them up. Good Luck.

We grew the giant marigolds last year and were AMAZED at how well they did. I planted a few in between some peppers and they grew so large they shaded my peppers completely and I had to pull some of them up. The bees absolutely loved them too. We will keep those in our garden from now on!

Just a warning if you have a dog or cat that digs around in the flowers: Ageratum can be toxic to grazing animals, causing liver lesions. All parts of the plant are poisonous and may be harmful to pets or humans if ingested. So I planted a few where the moles and voles have popped up. Hoping they'll go for the flowers and leave my other plants alone! Hope the "Wax Dip" on the fig tree cuttings worked as well for you as it has for me. Thanks for the videos Travis!

I move most of my seedlings to my greenhouse ground as soon as they germinate. I use row cover fabric if freezing weather is forecast. They're placed on the southern side, and I roll up the sides any time to temperatures are above 40 degrees. This allows them full sun and wind exposure.

I feel your relief in being able to get your plants outside. I've been taking plants back and forth from my shed, where I have them under lights, to a table in the Sun. And then carrying them back into the shed before dark. It looks like the weather will now allow me to leave them out most nights. I started my tomatoes the first of March on an 18 hours and 6 hours off schedule. The plants are about 10" tall and very bushy. I have them in containers a bit larger than Travis'. It surprised me they are so tall in less than a month. I change the hours my lights are on next year back to 15 hours on, 9 off. It's the same with my tobacco transplants, normally it takes almost two months of growth before they can be set out. They've overgrown their containers and planting time is almost a month away. I guess they're going in early this year.

We use a toothpick dampened on the need to plant really small seeds. Works really well. i always wondered if the plants in our small greenhouse with rollup sides needed to be hardened off. Now I know. Always was told if you had a few days of cloudy weather, you would not have to bring them inside. But I wonder about the wind more than the sun.

Travis, I think you are to the point of needing a greenhouse for the Fig Operation and go back to using the original one for the rest of the garden needs. The Fig house needs to be pretty big from the looks of how well your fig business appears to be going (build a little bigger than current need for future expansion).
