Long time supporter and Baby Steps 6'er but I have to be honest, Rachel is probably the best Ramsey personality!! She is the only person that has the freedom or maybe the comfort to speak with Dave like a person not a boss. I appreciate her willingness to say dude its a numbers thing even if its different from how we typically teach it, if the new car is cheaper than the used one get the new car!! Also appreciate her being willing to say the tax credit thing started under the previous president not the current one

I was Jared with the car question, don’t think Dave fully understood the situation. We have one car right now and need a second. We have a new car coming in that the dealer has signed a letter saying I’ll pay msrp, it’s cheaper than it is going used. Point is Dave used it as a chance to push his beliefs without fully understanding my situation. I’m a Ramsey fan but the interaction is concerning especially when they muted me and I couldn’t interject to correct them on the situation

If you can find a dealer selling at msrp, then if your plan is to buy new (and loose out due to normal depreciation) then no reason not to buy new over used. Especially since cars are now appreciating after they are driven off the lot. Bought a brand new car in November for 48k… drive it for 5 months and 5k miles and now it’s worth 51k! Crazy….

With Dave it's simple in every situation. Either you have the cash to buy in full at the moment or not except for a mortgage. If you have 1k or 5k to buy a car that's what you buy unless you're a millionaire and then you can buy a 22k or 26k car. If you set 22k on fire would that hurt you financially? If yes, that's the point. I also agree this is the worst time to buy a car or a home. Way overpriced!

I get the primary principle of not buying new. But I don't think Dave listened to him or gave complete advice. The person is debt free, has a Step 3 emergency fund, AND saved up to pay cash. He did his research and found the best price for the car he wanted. Incidentally, it was new instead of used, which okay, that's unusual, but crazy market. I don't see a huge problem with buying the car in this specific case if he's paying cash. Another alternative would be buying a less expensive used car, but he would not get all the bells and whistles of the make and model he picked

We didn’t get Jared’s household income. And Dave’s rule is no more than 60% of income spent on things that go down in value generally. So very well the car would have fit into Dave’s criteria for a step 4 car buyer. I’m glad Rachel fought for Jared though.

Pretty typical in IT really, no one notices what you do unless something stuffs up lol ;) ... they sure notice ya then. For me y2k came to mean "if something is important, humans can get it done." My older sister is in debt, I don't know how much, but enough to know I'd not sleep well at night. She spends money she doesn't have/own and carries on living her life as usual. Heck, she even orders food via those apps. I myself on the other hand, am trying to save money every way I can and not in debt, yet she does the opposite and she's deep in debt. I'd not mind talking about trying to get her help, but she's narcissistic and harasses people (family, me included). And then, she plays the victim. She's a mess.

I have been a listener off and on for over ten years and in the past year, daily. I am having trouble listening to the show when Rachel goes against the same baby steps that made her father and her a millionaire. The theory is no longer and it is proven, it seems a bit unprofessional to disregard Mr.Ramsey’s hard work and steps. Sometimes experience speaks volumes.

I know what you mean. It's like she knows the steps, but doesn't fully believe in the principals, reasons behind them & the importance of following each to a "t"for the behavioral aspect. She has a lot of empathy for people & I like that, but sometimes she does help justify those who are "doing their own plan" not the ramsey plan. I think so many of these callers fail to understand the plan is the way it is because of the behavior aspect! When you start shifting this, doing this different is when you are doing ur own plan & before u know it, it starts to go awry.
