Try this and free up your backswing.. let me know how it feels even without hitting a shot!

Are you also emphasizing by doing this first to start the backswing? Step on trail foot to then raise the leg and let the club follow along. I've been trying this method(ground up) but feel like I'm trying to force the torque too much which creates some imbalance, mostly due to me trying to hit the ball farther.

this tip is Brilliant i,m 75yrs old use to be single figures for 40 odd yrs now i'm struggling due to Arthritis in the lower back. and i had the normal method all those yrs was to sort of sit on that right knee, Now that right leg as a new knee & new hip, but tomorrow i will be down our club range working on that new set-up this could help me get my handicap down a bit.... I'm 10.8 = 11... the lowest Handicap i got to was 5 and single figures up till 2019, And Age rearing its head.......

I’m a bit older and this is exactly what I have been doing, to the point now where my right ankle is very painful all the time and an operation is needed to fix it. Feels like a spur has formed. To late for me but you are 100% correct. I am living proof. 🤒

Thank you for this wonderful tip! I tried this at the range last weekend and had some good results. I found I could finally get back the feel of getting off my right side, something I have been struggling with as I get older. I still need to work on this but I want to make this a permanent feature of my golf swing.

Super! The not long ago publisher efficient backswing may be a good additional feel to maximize a shorter swing etc. keep at it though!:)

I’m a senior golfer and have always been taught to resist with my right leg on my backswing. I use a camera to film my swing and I’ve noticed a lot of bend and “air” at top of backswing between my legs. Do you think this is related to resisting too much with the right leg? Thanks
@TheArtofSimpleGolf2 жыл бұрын
Yes it could well be! try flaring feet out a little to aid wind up too

You’re NOT exaggerating! That was my swing. I have to free up my shoulders because I keep my weight on the lead leg. On the downswing I have to think about “straighten left leg” or my hips “wander” with the club from the top, not exactly standing up or reverse pivoting but a real power drain. I find the biggest power drain however is moving the arms and not the SHOULDERS in the backswing, but I’ll check this out. Thanks.

It's a lot more comfortable for me not to resist. One thing I use to help improve it, is putting the back of a folding chair where my backside pushes against it.

The better ive got the faster and earlier i get my lower body out of the way,but it looks a lot smaller move than it feels! In terms of feel its closer to mat wolf move than a turn.But as im 60yo its obv nothing like it!Greg Norman prob describes it best as rhpb or power piston drill. The legs are taking the pressure of my considerable weight,so they are working with strength but not resisting.I have never hit it further and its great at my age to be hitting "worldies" with my fairway woods and hybrids.I have learnt to get my big muscles moving early out of the way giving my arms space and generating flow and speed, rather than using them to hit at the ball!

Very good insights indeed! It’s your feels that are key too. Keep at it !

I was able to consistently hit the ball with my trail leg straighten. It felt natural and good but i recently attended a golf class and my instructor was really insisting on keeping my trail leg bent. The whole thing felt awful and was a mess.
