@@TheArtofSimpleGolf I've been working on the exact same things. The key is to focus on the club head moving at the same speed as the arms, torso, shoulders and hips, all connected and extending the backswing as far as possible. The takeaway start on the target line.

Once again, it is the simple breakdown which has improved my swing again. A previous video I watched of yours emphasizing releasing the club improved my shot. But this helped the inconstancies I was having. Went to the range today. And this time keeping my club connected with my front body so not swinging it away and wrapping around my back too soon showed really good results. More control. Hi Alex; I have a tip I found for myself that really helps my takeaway, but perhaps in past videos you may have covered it & I haven't seen it. All that's involved is that before you start the club back, use a small slow forward press with your legs & really loose arms, without lifting the club from the ground which, if done properly, creates a small bit of momentum to get the swing started rather than yanking it back as happens from a static address position &.makes it nearly impossible to move the club too quickly into the backswing due to your weight & club moving forward 1st. This works really well for me by keeping me slower into the takeaway. Be Well!

We have a few on starting the swing with momentum. It's very crucial and too often overlooked.

After having myriad swing thoughts yesterday to the point where I thought my head was going to explode (62 on back 9 and wanting to give up golf altogether), this is a God send! Alex, thanks so much! My routine has been 3 perfect practice swings, then inside takeaway when I strike. I have shanked over 200 times this summer, ruining my hdcp. Brilliant video Alex. I have one perennial doubt - when you say start the backswing by moving your left chest down, is it a 'turning' (at an angle since we are bending from the hips) motion or is it a dip of the left shoulder? If I dip the left shoulder down, my arms lift up but if I 'turn' the left chest, the arms stay closer to the ground. Any thoughts to find the correct takeaway body motion will help

I'm sorry to be so late in responding.. sometimes they get lost as get hundreds a day:( Anyway... It is hard to say.. because it is what it feels like to you :) For most, the shoulder goind down... won;t actually go too low. its the tilt of the shoulders on the angle. They most likely will feel steeper. And key is to feel very supple in the wrist. almost the clubhead lag on takeaway

I've "advanced" from a backswing that was absolutely flat at the top (shoulders & club) to a takeaway that ends up in the right place with good shoulder tilt but is inside all the way back. It feels like 2 steps to get there - the initial takeaway then a lift with the right arm. I knew it was wrong but until I saw this video I couldn't develop a feel that worked. Thanks ! I'll work with this.

A fundamental part of the swing and so easy to get wrong. When I'm not swinging well it is usually because I lose connection between the arms and the body and take the club away with the arms because I'm trying to follow the correct path back with the clubhead instead of using body rotation to initiate the take-away.. The hands go too far and push everything too much on the inside. Once that happens it usually results in a pull hook or occasionally a toe strike with the ball going high right and losing distance.

You need to expand on the most important of that backswing. When the trail arm is on top of the lead arm, most golfers struggle how to hinge up from there.

I’ve played golf for over 40 years and have been plagued by the inside takeaway for almost all of that time. At first I did not comprehend and when “fixing” the whole game would go. I still must exaggerate the feeling of pushing it back on the outside each time I go. It’s a killer to have and worse trying to fix.

Good video. Would be helpful to see you apply your tips ie hit some balls. Strange to see a golf video without the instructor actually hitting balls. But this tip is a common one and you explain it well.

Fair enough. Many videos include me hitting shots though. Not always perfect either lol Sometimes it helps, others not needed. Everyone has their own swing too.

what you do not discuss is how the hands and arms move from the horizontal position to above the shoulder. No videos show this key transition ( it happens in less than a mini-second). What i mean is that your take-back is shown in slow-motion, but the transition to the next step is not. You simply say, then take it up...that is not enough because I often hinge my wrists at the wrong point. Can you do a clear demonstration of this.?

That's good.. bit prefer smooth over slow. Slow can lead to trying to place into positions and focussing on that rather than momentum. THink throwing a ball

Hard to see exactly at normal speed but your slow deliberate rehearsal of the short takeaway and actual start of the swing look different, ie in the actual I see clubface fanning open more.

On the position at knee high to the top, the hand wrist rotation during this action is not explained well. Amateurs don't understand that action and end up with the wrong wrist hand position at top. You over simplified that action.

Too many examples of how not to do it interrupts flow of instruction. Explain how to do without interruption then after you do this you might explain ways not to do it. However, your video is too long and jumbled by negative examples. Go positive!

Yes I understand your point. The reason why I did it like that was most folks really need to know what and if they do “wrong” and if the feel is what they might benefit from.
