As a life long resident of the Appalachian mountains of Virginia, locals always pronounce Appalachia as "Ap-pa-Latch-a". If someone says "Ap-pa-LAY-cha", that person could be labeled a "city slicker", just to warn you.🙂

You are correct, it's rare to get sass logs this big, but my loggers look out for me, and when they see some, they will bring them to me.

Great stuff! I came across a couple of very small sassafras trees on my property. Had to look up the leaves online to figure out what they were. Do you have a video on how you make your stickers? I like 'em!

Great video, thanks for putting this out. A question, the boards on the racks in your shop have some notations. The width and the length, which I get, wondering what the S and the final number (3.9, 4.2, 4.0,etc) indicate?

The "S" stands for Sassafras, and the other number os the calculated board foot measurement of that board. We sell everything based on board foot so we calculate it in case the customer can't or to simply help them out. Good Question!

Would you consider talking about the tension on The woodmizer saw mills & if this has alot to do with how fast your able to cut on these saws. Ever milled Chestnut wood?

Yes, I have sawn true, almost extinct American Chestnut many years ago. There is a botanical garden nearby and they had a very small patch of trees, daily young, about a foot in diameter and the blight, which is apparently still around, was killing one of them. So they selected me out of all the local mills to saw it, and it was really cool. I didn't have a camera back then, but is was a memorable log to saw up.

How is it for keep pests out of furniture, bugs, mice, etc? Forester here but have not made anything out of sass yet so no practical knowledge

Sass is old school wood because its oil and odor (root beer) makes it very resistant to bugs and such. I wouldn't think it would have much effect on mice, but pretty much every other critter doesn't much care for it.
