So glad you did this video I have shared it as so many people travel with dogs. I hope veterinary clinics can share this information with their clients. Also thank you for speaking out.

And we will keep speaking out. The CDC will not respond to our questions other than to say they are too busy to respond. This is insane!

Great video about the dog requirements, but it should be noted that the biggest hurdle is that the rabies certificate must be certified by a USDA certified vet. That vet has to log into a portal and upload the rabies information. The USDA then sends you the certified rabies vaccination several weeks later. They are currently backlogged. Additionally not all vets are USDA certified. Most are not. Check with your vet. This really is a mess and will cause a lot of heartache at the border coming back. Read first paragraph of page two of the requirements. We also confirmed this with several vets one of which is family

Per vets here in Tampa Bay, a microchip is about the size of a grain of rice (not sand) and it does indeed hurt. Inserted with a decent sized needle. Amazing to me that Rv-ers to Baja and other areas have reported RV park owners there letting their dogs run free and attack guests’ dogs.

That tape measure parable is a great story! We first heard it at an Escapee Rally in the early nineties from Gaylord Maxwell, a well known RV industry spokesman with Trailer Life and Motorhome magazine. Pulled out the tape measure to illustrate how much life has been lived and how much is left. Helped us decide to retire early and enjoy RVing! Matter of fact, still do!

We are from Ontario Canada and travel to Texas Class C every winter. We have our 3 year old Morkie microchip and will definitely will be looking at your CDC link. This spring our 13 year old toy poodle passed away 3 weeks before we were heading home from Florida..The E R vet suggested we put her body in our freezer so we could bring her home. I told them I don’t think border patrol would like that. She was cremated and spread over Tampa Bay. We have never been ask to produce our dog’s vaccination records. I keep all the documentation with our passports. Thanks for sharing this important information.❤️

Thanks for bringing up this topic. I was planning on getting a puppy and it got me stopped dead in my tracks. I read on CDC’s website that there were 4 cases of dog rabies since 2015 and that the new measures are intended to prevent the resurgence of dog rabies. A bit extreme in my opinion, especially when it comes to travel in neighbouring countries which are also dog rabies free, and with family pets like you pointed out. Good luck on your travels to Canada in July/August.

Love your videos and podcasts. Your tape measure story fits right in with a book my husband and I are reading- Die With Zero by Bill Perkins. Excellant book to make you think about how you live your life, how and when you spend, gift, save …your funds. A real mind set shift. I have been trying to convince my husband to get an RV and see America while we can. Just learned our daughter -n-loves dad has a cancer scare that could be devastating. Makes me realize anew to quit dreaming and get out there NOW! What are we waiting for?!

All my dogs are microchipped at the time they are neutered/spayed, I do believe their paper work reflects the number this I will need to check, they are up to date on all vaccines and they are healthy looking other than the paper work required from CDC which you can't do until you know where your entering back in to states. When a dog is found running on streets the first thing a vet or shelter does is check for a microchip so honestly everyone should be microchipping their dogs especially if your travel you always think the dog won't get away but you just never know, and I think of it as an additional safety measure, just make sure it's registered and the information is kept up to date.

We are also traveling through Canada into Alaska, departing on July 5 and ultimately returning to the US (lower 48) in early September. This is a tour with Fantasy RV. My pet's last rabies vac was administered on Jan 31, 2024 in Mesa AZ. That vet is not a "USDA-accredited" vet, and could not access the "portal" to obtain the "Certification (by USDA after application by USDA-accredited vet) of US-issued Rabies Vaccination Form" or "USDA endorsed (also performed by and applied for by USDA-accredited vet) export health certificate." We are to have one of those forms in hand, in addition to the items mentioned in this video. We found a USDA-accredited vet in Bozeman MT a week ago and her comments were, "This is so confusing." She also said, "You shouldn't need this." I'm currently in a holding pattern while she consults with the regional head vets in her USDA-accredited vets multi-state group. She did insist that she had to administer ANOTHER rabies vaccine to my dog to fit the requirements. So my 8 pound chihuahua has had 2 rabies vaccines since Jan 31, 2024. And I am still waiting for the documents required to bring our dog back into the US once we depart. My experience, even USDA-accredited vets have no idea about these new regulations. This is an expensive tour group that we have been looking forward to for 2 years. Cancellation at this late date is really not an option. I'm hoping that this Bozeman vet will come through with one of the specified USDA certifications by the end of this week. I'm also not 100% sure that will happen. I hate having this cloud hanging over us as we prepare to depart on this bucket list trip.

Big Yes to a Touron segment, at least during the camping season! They’re interesting in a peculiar way and are a good reminder for folks as to what not to do. Apparently some folks need reminding more than others. Hmmm, politics. I suspect my party affiliation is not the same as yours overall, Mike, yet I totally agree with your statement regarding our border crossing situation. It is rather appalling that dogs are about to have more entry criteria than people and there are oodles more people crossing than dogs. Furthermore, dogs have caretakers and homes and food while incoming folks usually don’t. Yikes! A conundrum. I think we often have more in common than not.

wow think of people who headed to Alaska in early may for the season and don't know they come back and their dog is taken. or even in 2025 people who do the Alaska trip maybe in and out of us and Canada several times and they need to have a new form every time. There should be a pet exemption for US and Canada. This is insane I mean I understand when flying dogs in but we are not importing our pets by coming home with them in a car or RV smh

We are Canadians. Our dog is 16 months old, with all required shots ( rabies, ticks, etc etc). We had our dog microchipped 2 days ago. Because the chip was installed AFTER the first rabies shot about a year ago, seems that the dog cannot enter the USA. we are waiting for clarification, but CDC confirmed it was the rule. We were planning a 10 week trip to the canyons in August/ September . We will unfortunately change our plans and stay in Western Canada. This will have an immense financial impact on Southern states where tens of thousands of 'Snowbirds) spend the winter. Not the best policy....

We learned of this new CDC requirement about two weeks ago via Facebook. We are headed to Alaska soon. We just got our 10 year old dog chipped, and our vet just updated her rabies vaccination certification letter to include the microchip ID#. Ask your vet. We live in Virginia, and will also have to download and fill out the new form available on 15 July, for re-entry to the US. I understand the law has been revised in an attempt to curb the spread of rabies from other countries, as it is under control in Canada and the US.

Well, other animals have to have international veterinary health certificates in order to enter Canada and return to the US. It is just part of responsibly traveling with animals. Just because the rules have been loosey goosey with regard to domestic pets, doesn't mean tightening up some factors is a bad thing. Springing this on the traveling public only 90-days before it goes into effect, and at the start of the travel season is just short-sightedness on CDC and US Border control. Just an aside, avoid the Blue Water Bridge- the US entry agents are something special, enough to ruin your day.

Thanks for the updates on traveling to Canada/Mexico with pets. Seems the only change since 2022 is a new form and a photo of your pet. We traveled to Canada June/July of 2022 and we needed to have proof of current rabies vaccination, chipped and “statement of health” from our vet. We were not asked for any of the documentation either entering Canada or returning to the U.S. I see no need for all the hand ringing and getting all anxious over a new form and photo :)

Gettin tired of everybody and their brothers rules of the day....Seems there is a new one daily....Thinking very seriously bout moving to Baja....DId an RV caravan trip there (4 rigs) and found that Life is much slower, ton less rules and regulations ...And unlike the stigma in this country i have found the people there to be more than kind and ""ALWAYS"" willing to help in some way if they can...Unlike here, folks there dont take the simple things in life for granted, they utilize them...Much more so than in the high and mighty entitled USA...I havent seen any of the baloney there they tell you about here in this country...Like most here these days, its FAKE NEWS and made up to fit someones agenda...To my surprise what i noticed most of all is that there already are a plethora of Americans there feeling exactly as i do and to the person each and every one of them says it was a good move and that they are much better off for it...Takes a little planning sure for things like healthcare and all but more than doable...
