As an educator of students with learning differences, one of the toughest concepts is to get them to advocate for themselves at college so that they get the accommodations they need to be successful in their experience.Without success they may get frustrated easily and not continue on with courses that will help them to navigate into business or a career. It seems at Mills college they are willing to assist the students with their differences so that they have less of a struggle learning as accommodations are made for their disabilities.

Thank You Carol for your comment.I believe It's not enough for colleges to simply offer support services for students with LD's and think that the buck stops there. The professor can make or break an experience for a student in a needed class, or in the case of samlled colleges, advancement in a department... an advisor who can help be an advocate is also key. Mills does have an outstanding group of professor advocates sprinkled across the departments.

Therese you continue to be an advocate for students who learn differently. I think that is admirable. However, I'm curious about your comment," I never liked school until I got more flexibility at college." How could I have made your elementary school experience better? Mrs. Kostyshak
