This lesson was really enlightening my mind and expanding my horizon as well. Here are these words and phrases to sound confident in academic purposes or office environments or professional situations as follows: 1. Don't say "I'm sorry", better say "I apologise". 2. Don't say "It's not fair". Say "That's not warranted" or "That's unwarranted". 3. Don't say "It's not my fault". Say "I wasn't aware that ..." or "I did it that way because ... " or "I took/made the decision because ...." or "I think there seems to be some confusion here ..." 4. Don't say "I can't", rather say "I'm unable to ... because ...." or I can't... but I can ...." or "I'll look into that ..." or " I'm unable to .... because...." 5. Don't say ".... just....". Avoid using it when you want to sound confident. Using "just" minimises the importance of your request.

. Of course using alternative phrases are very important for growning of learners' confident . I am 49 years old and i have been learning English for a year. Recently I have been feeling that i need to use new phrases instead of available phrases in my mind while learning. However as you a teacher , you know very well that learning is too difficult for mature learners after specific age for like us. And so, thank you very much❤👍

Thanks to Leila and Sabrah , it’s a good one , really understand the difference between sorry and apology. In American English , people use ‘ my bad, instead of I am sorry , does it use in British English .And your forth phrase as number 2 you wrote ‘ I’am can’t but I can’ is it correct?? Thank you once again, stay safe and stay healthy

I think you are making more difficult about your lessons regarding the word's alternative from the original phrases which the Insular Teachers back in 1906 have planned well before the approval of board of education.( Simple English is always the best) particularly teaching in elementary schools. A good teacher in school must be able to know the environment around him/her before his teaching application to the learners are exactly in the field of teaching activities...

Excellent English, Leila, but this ceaseless self confidence you champion is a bit too much of an American mentality to my ears. Self deprecating or self criticism exudes more refined social skills in an Europian context, I think. The US is a continent away, and it may be better to leave it that way.
