What are you going to do if that hurricane hits y'all at the end of next week? Are you going to open the valve more so the lake doesn't fill back up or are you going to close it or leave it how it is now? Looks like you have dropped another foot or two out of it since the last video. With a large enough rain event, it could appear that some of the work you have done did not get done from what the hurricane causes to wash in. If you open the valve all the way- you could flush it down stream which would cause some problems if the gub'ment found out you did on purpose. If you close the valve, you will have to wait two weeks for it to drain enough to work on again and that is if the hurricane doesn't just come in and wreck the area with tree damage. Plus, would you move your equipment somewhere safer than the middle of a lake surrounded by trees for such a weather thing?
@letsdig186 жыл бұрын
probably just shut the valve, this lake will fill up in about 4 hours from just the outer bands of rain. the quicker this lake fills the less sediment that will be washed into it as the water will slow it down

I'm up 40 from you in Morganton and the rain from these storms can pile up here at the base of the mountains. The Gulf storms are usually far worse than the Atlantic ones here but Hugo proved there are exceptions to the rule. Y'all fellow Tarheels stay safe during the upcoming week. It's looking more and more like at least some of us are going to be affected by Florence.

I thought the job was to take the sediment out of the pond, and not spreading it around. I'm sure there are excuses and reasons for not taking that last bit out that was used for the retaining walls. But wiping before you poop doesn't make sense to me either.
@pallikorva116 жыл бұрын
I've been watching you guys dredging that lake. To me it seems like you're just moving that mud in and out while making those pools at the same time and then digging some more. Why don't you just dredge to the desired depth, move and continue digging where you last finished? How wide should that lake become on that particular spot? And how about you get bigger buckets? BTW, how long time does it take to learn to coordinate both hands to make the bucket move smoothly? I love watching skillful excavator operating.

Central Iowa Farmer I know what water and dirt mixed together can do to an undercarriage though and that machine doesn't deserve that kind of abuse. It's to nice of a machine to be put trough that. I'm not trying to get in no argument with nobody or nothing like that I'm just voiceing my opinion. I understand that it ain't making money sitting still but that still don't change the fact that it's to nice of a machine to be put through this kind of abuse.
@leniczek19926 жыл бұрын
I'd rather put a nice well taken care of machine in the mud than an old piece of junk that the tracks fall off and the fuel guage doesn't work and shit like that. He knows the limits of the machine, sand and rock is actually much harder on an undercarriage than mud and clay, just gotta clean em out at the end of the day if they're real bad. If it were me on this job that trash pump of his would have a fireman's nozzle on it and clean the tracks with it.

Chris... I'm curious, do you have some type of " Act of God " clause included in your contracts with your customers? For example... if the new Hurricane Florence would continue its track and hit the Carolinas and possibly destroy the work your doing before it is finished, how would you and your customer work out repairing the damage and eventually finishing the project? This is a hypothetical situation and I understand that there would be a lot of details to consider but as I said, I'm curious about how those type of situations are handled.

Does the owner of the lake have any recourse against people upstream who let their property erode away and cause him these massive expenses? I'm sure a lot of it is from natural erosion that's not much at fault, but if it picked up as the area got developed... that seems like an engineer could make a case.
