Apparently Judd farted and denied it. It was mostly silent but Ronnie smelt it and was put off. Refs are trained to recognise the different farts of players and the ref knew Judd had guffed but didn't want to embarrass him in front of the crowd. The ref threatened to fart to neutralise Judd's fart and that's when Ronnie said 'Don't you fart'.

No, he was right to give the warning there and then. What he should have done though, was do it before Judd lined up to take the shot. Warnings have to be given as they happen, in case the same player offends again, which could lead to a disqualification. I just felt Maartel was too slow to take action.

For those asking what happened: the ref claimed to have seen a gesture (I suppose a rude one) done by Ronnie. Ronnie responded, "what gesture?!" The ref didn't want to say then. And the rest can be heard. Judd being displeased by the interaction which stalled his play was justified. This ref achieved nothing by interrupting.

Remember that it wasn't the first time this tournament that Ronnie was warned for basically the same thing and that the referee was required to warn him for it, as it's against the rules. Both players were annoyed by it for different reasons, but that doesn't take away the fact that the ref was just doing his job.

Assuming Ronnie actually did anything at all, if the ref had waited until the end of of the frame, Ronnie could have made several more gestures/comments that could have warranted a warning. And technically a second warning means you forfeit the frame, a third means you forfeit the match! So the player has to be made aware they're on a yellow card.

Olivier has 100% believed there has been a gesture or what appears to be a gesture and maybe he has been mistaken, I don't think there is a camera in the right place to confirm innocence or guilt. I don't know if Ronnie made an inappropriate gesture or not I didn't notice any gesture and I haven't seen any footage of any gesture. Ronnie is well known for his impatience with referees and maybe he should deal with that a bit better than he does. Having said that the referee said "I think I saw something". You can't think that you saw something you either definitely saw something or you didn't. The referee going over to Ronnie because he thought he saw something was not a good thing to do when Judd was coming to the table to make a frame winning clearance. It was the last frame of the session and the referee should have used some common sense and waited until the end of the frame instead of interrupting Judd's concentration. It is a good job that Judd did clear up the colours to win that frame I can't imagine how angry he would have been if he had missed that yellow. Ronnie should have a bit more patience but Olivier Marteel never looked confident refereeing the match.

Absolutely no need to stop play altogether and start a feud. That's what put Judd off actually. If the ref doesn't decide *now* is the time to sort things out Judd never has a problem.

The referee I find was at fault here, not only putting off Ron when he was trying to hit the yellow, but also confronting Ron while Judd was trying to line up the shot, The referee should’ve confronted Ronnie after the frame was over. Some people will criticise Ron for being a bit verbally hostile to the ref, but remember this, Ron is in the final trying to get his seventh world title which will match him up with Hendry, I would say 90% of the audience wants to see him win it so there is a lot of pressure on him, so is anyone really surprised that he responded the way he did? He’s no John Williams.

I'm a huge fan of Ronnie the snooker player....but I dislike his character a lot. He's always complaining about the referees not moving quick enough but of he was in their shoes he would realize that they can't run around the table the whole match just to please him. Ronnie is nearly 50 years and still acts like a child sometimes. Hes always saying how everything is perfect in his life and how nothing bothers him these days but he's always getting involved in these little situations and then he feels he can treat people, especially the referees, like trash just because he's the Goat of the game.

Could easily have been solved if the ref had said what Ronnie had done. I've watched it several times and still have no idea. We're all forming opinions based on having no clue what it's about. The Ref had set a bad tone from early on when he was unable to put the white in the correct place after a foul by Ronnie. The footage clearly showed the ball was not in the right place despite all the faffing.
