When you first begin playing Don't Starve, you are in "sandbox mode". The way you enter the adventure mode is by finding Maxwell's Door somewhere in the world and then entering it. It will load up a map out of the seven different levels with a title. You are to find all four "things" and build the Teleportato on the "wooden thing" to advance into another level. If you go through a Teleportato in sandbox mode, you will just load a new sandbox map and you are able to change characters.

Yes and no. In Sandbox mode, the 'things' build a portal which takes you to a new map, with different stuff on it, and a different layout. In between maps, it tallies up all the exp you earned, and you can change characters, while keeping your inventory and all unlocked blueprints. In adventure mode, winning the map brings you to another challenge map. Completing them all brings you to the end where you can free Maxwell from the throne of darkness, ending his demonic possession and unlocking him

Nope,you need two box things, a metal potato thing, a ring thing, and a crank thing. idk there might be more but that's all I know of. once you have all of them, you go to the wood thing usually in the rocky tile set and you give all the items to the wood thing and you will then have your portal :D
