Small theory I always thought the House being alive was the spirit of her grandfather who died which is why it was protective and helped out around the house so much, it was alive and helping everyone.

When the grandfather was killed (by Columbian rebels) at the river, and the miracle happened, mountains grew around the refugee villagers, blocking the path back to the river, and preventing any more rebels from following them. The Encanto is the enchanted land on the other side of the mountains, where they built their village, and the magic house. When the earthquake happened and the candle went out, the mountains split open, allowing Mirabel to go back to the river.

"I like the diversity" its a movie about colombian family. Latin America is pretty diverse in reality yknow, pretty many africans were brought there and blended. If you made a film about eastern european folklore itd be fully white characters and it would make sense. Here a pallet of skin tones makes sense and its great

You missed a couple of things :D First off, just like someone already pointed out, Felix and Agustin married into the family and therefore have no gift. Only those born into the family get gifts. Abuela Alma doesn't have a gift either, since she's the one holding the candle. Her three children are Peppa, Julietta and Bruno, he did NOT marry into the family, he was BORN into the family. Mirabel even sang about that in the beginning, so you should've picked that up there :)

@@quirkyquotareacts since there are so many small details, it's very easy to miss them, like how Isabella is Abuela's favorite grandchild because she looks just like her when she was younger, and how she chose Mariano for Isabella because he's like a buffed up version of Pedro. I doubt there's anybody that got all those small details on the first watch.

Although, I think I read somewhere that children _adopted_ into the family would be eligible for a gift also; which makes me wonder why marriage doesn’t count.

Not sure who would be just now catching this to be worried about spoilers, but just in case: Mirabel not getting a gift was probably more of a ‘hint’ (from the house to the family) that they didn’t need to prove themselves ‘worthy’ of what they were given. The gifts were freely given/the initial sacrifice was more than enough. All the stresses of the family were rooted in presumed need to be ‘on’ at all times, and that was hurting them (and their home) more than it was helping. It’s possible that the house would have just said so if it could have, but that’d probably lean too hard on the house knowing better than living people.

There’s actually a theory that Mirabel has a gift, that she’s the next candle holder after abuela.

I don’t know if that is technically a “gift”? As the Candle-Keeper, Abuela doesn’t actually have a power of her own. She is like the conductor of an orchestra whose job is to be out in front, and therefore does not get to play an instrument with the others. -And Mirabel is slated to be the next to inherit that position.

Yeah Bruno is considered the black sheep of the family because of his gift, let’s be honest his predictions were more like warnings then making them actually happen I mean a fish can’t survive in a glass bowl it was bound to die in like a couple of days and weight gain that’s preventative, due to the people blaming him he has probably developed anxiety and possibly ptsd from the ridicule he received. Overall Bruno is a kind person despite his different personas which I think are pretty cute

Mirabels door is the front house door, that's why when she was gonna get her door it disappeared because she already had one, and she didn't get a gift because SHE is the gift and she can communicate with casita through her emotions if she is falling apart the house is falling apart if she is happy the house us happy. (just explaining some things for ppl that are curious)

This is an amazing movie. I did like the songs and the art style of it all. the background colors and the characters. But for a nice little joke here. Her not having powers. She should talk to Robin. He has no powers, and he still kicks ass. He probably have something to say to the family about their gifts. And not having one doesn't mean your any less special.

I know this was a long time ago but I still wanted to add my opinion. I think Isabela actually was the one in Bruno’s vision. Because after Isabela and Mirabel hugged, they lost everything which led Abuela to understanding that she was the one putting pressure on the family. That’s what leads to Mirabel and Abuela making up.

Fun reaction! Small note, I believe the men on horses who killed abuelo were Colombian

All of them were Colombian (both the protagonists/villagers and those villains). There was a period known as "La Violencia" which was actually a civil war in Colombia. It is estimated about 200,000 people died because of it and the fighting was taking place mostly in countryside. One can clearly see abuelo Pedro was an important figure in the city as abuela explains many followed them to find a refugee. Moreover, that (on top of trying to protect his own family) explains why abuelo was the one who tried to stop the attackers or at least delay them to give the rest of the community a chance to escape.
