@@ShyGuyPlusI got a question for you. Are you by any chance interested in reacting to a movie called rocketeer?
@MiciousDawnАй бұрын
This is my theory: The first gifts were given to the triplets to directly help them survive: predict the future, heal the sick, and control the weather for thriving crops. when Luisa got her gift of strength, I think that’s when Abuelos spirit decided they were being put to work and not valued, so Isabella was given the gift of making beautiful flowers. Since abuela still looked at that as a way to put her to “use,” that’s when abuelos spirit decided to have mirabel receive no gift. After the way she was treated, I think Antonio was given a gift that would be a true reflection of him, just for his enjoyment, rather than being put to work. Theres a moment when abuela is meeting with the family and she says to Antonio “we need to figure out how to make your gift useful.” it seemed like “the miracle” (abuelos spirit) was trying to move away from them being seen as just someone to use for work. I love this movie so much, so much to analyze!
@ShyGuyPlusАй бұрын
ouuuuuu i actually really like this theory
@sianlloyd7226Ай бұрын
Luisa is younger than Isabella, she's actually the 3rd grandchild. It goes Isabella, Dolores, Luisa, Camillo, Mirabel, and surprise baby Antonio. I do like the first half of the theory though. In terms of overall purpose, the triplets powers do seem to be centered around survival
@jdb101585Ай бұрын
The switch happens with Mirabel. Mirabel is now the keeper of the magic and gave Antonio his gift. Abuela bestowed "useful gifts" which were based on things *she* needed, not what the other person might want (Heck, sorry, Delores "gift" is a curse! But Abuela needs to hear everything going to to maintain her power). Mirabel bestows gifts based on the other person's love/passions. Ultimately, the cracks come from Abuela not letting go and allowing her replacement to grow and flourish.
@ForeverxGone1Ай бұрын
@@jdb101585 oooooo I love that theory
@jdb101585Ай бұрын
@@ForeverxGone1 Also, the fact that Mirabel accompanies him to his door is a massive change. She doesn't stand there like Abuela looking down like some sort of gatekeeper (*you* come to *her*).
@hanonondricek411Ай бұрын
I think the implication with Dolores is _because_ she can hear everything she has resolved to keep her mouth shut so as not invade everyone's privacy so she has to keep _all the secrets_ and that's her trauma. "Encanto" is "enchanted" or "enchantment" in Spanish.
@ruffboiALTАй бұрын
Which also probably explains why stuff that she thinks needs to be said immediately bursts out - she's already keeping SO MUCH under wraps.
@christinedvs2093Ай бұрын
But she didn't think to tell about Bruno? I understand she didn't say anything because she thought it wasn't her business or something like that, but I think this just shows once again how the family doesn't really treat Mirabelle as one of them. She certainly doesn't care anywhere in the movie if her words mean bad things for Mirabell😂😅
@TomJones-wx5onАй бұрын
Pet theory, Mirable did get a gift. She’s the conductor. Every other family member is like a premier musician but she’s the one that can put them all together to sound good and not dysfunctional
@WhiteWolfDarkpawАй бұрын
Her gift is being the new Heart of the Family. Abuela lost her way, and thus lost her gift, which caused the rest of the family to lose theirs. She couldn't receive her gift while Abuela still had hers. And Mirabel has been the heart of the family. She tries to help despite not having a gift. She's creative because she doesn't have a gift. She's been Antonio's best friend his entire life since they share a room. That's also why he needed her help for the ceremony. She's been part of his private space his whole life. She's probably always been there when he needed someone, like today before the ceremony. :3
@mangacraz00Ай бұрын
Random fun fact! The word Madrigal (the family’s last name) is actually a music term that refers to a piece written for multiple voices that overlap. They sing in this style at the end of ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ as Mirabel is assembling the prophecy.
@madiesfirstadventure5536Ай бұрын
Oh since you asked the bigest theory on why Mirabell didn't get powers was because shes the next matriarch abuella didn't have powers but her power came from the family Mirabell helps people and has empathy and understanding which rebuilds their family foundations with mirabell being a key support. cant wait for the second movie

I love how you went from "the living house is so creepy" to "I love Casita" "Now he's going to have to become a vegetarian" bro, I hadn't thought of that lol! Great reaction! If you're interested I recommend reacting to some of Lydia the Bard's songs about Villain songs, especially Mirabel, Isabel and Dolores.
@kiml.1565Ай бұрын
Thank you for the reaction!! I think you touched on one of the most underappreciated themes of the story: the mountain splitting. The candle is shown responding to Abuela's agony and heartbreak after Pedro sacrifices himself, and mountains grow that contain the enchanted place where she and her people could be safe. After the mountains crack and the candle goes out, Mirabel leaves the encanto through that crack and ends up at the river. When Abuela says "I've never been able to come back here" to the river where he died, she means that at least somewhat literally -- it was unreachable until the mountains cracked. The encanto created a little fortress of protection from the dangerous world outside, but also isolation. Now that the family can move on from her past and she's at peace, the mountains are no longer needed to make it so difficult to access the outside. They couldn't heal while she was still sealed off from the source of her trauma.

I think Bruno was wrong, I don't think the fate of the family was up to Mirabel. It wasn't about her in that sense--it was about how the family treated her. It wasn't about Mirabel embracing Isabel, but Isabel embracing--accepting--Mirabel. When Abuela came in making accusations, the house began to fall apart again. And when did the magic return? When Mirabel put the doorknob, the symbol of her family's acceptance of her, into the house after they all sang about how they finally see her and her accomplishments. This is a beautiful movie and I think my favorite Disney animated feature (it used to be Moana).
@besupaaaАй бұрын
😮 this is such a cool interpretation! I never thought of that.
@peachykeen53Ай бұрын
I would argue the fate of the family rested on Mirabel mainly because she’s the next matriarch. Everyone in the family is important, but she’s the glue that holds everyone together.

Do you intend to react to more movies? 🥺 I feel so much for Pepa. Imagine growing up baving to surpresa your emotiona or else it would affect everyone. And having a huge floating sign above your head indicating everything you feel. And the way I see it, Mirabel's gift was controlling the house. Just like abuela, who also didnt have a gift but controlled the house. And her door is the main door of the house.

I adore the contrast between that first flashback at the very beginning, and the flashback when Alma and Mirabel talk at the river. The first one was very sanitized, very Perfect in a way, like all of the intense emotions were scrubbed away. Sure, in the first flashback Alma looked sad at losing her husband, but in the second one she looks *devastated*. In the second one, you actually see her grief and her anguish, it's ugly but it's *human*. And it shows how Alma is truly opening up, allowing herself to be seen as imperfect as she accepts that she needs to allow the rest of her family to be imperfect as well.
@jenmiranda13Ай бұрын
As an older sibling (and someone who has practically memorized the tropes), I immediately saw through the "perfect" Isabella. I love Luisa too but I knew that Isabella had the opposite problem that Mirabel had 😅

There is also a 2021 film version of in the heights that's equally as good!!)

Others have already gone over how Mirabel is likely meant to take over as head of the family from Abuela (Abuela isn't going to live forever, after all, and it was Mirabel and Abuela's arguing that ultimately broke Casita apart), so I won't go a lot into it. If you haven't seen it, I recommend reacting to Coco. It's set in Mexico and focuses on Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. Basically a holiday to remember those important to us who have passed on. It's beautifully animated (I watched it in theaters and it was so bright and colorful and beautiful that I almost got a headache actually) and I think you'll enjoy it.

Just found your channel after your full Hamilton reaction and am so glad you ended up reacting to Encanto next!! Another great Disney movie to watch is Coco! Definitely agree that Frozen is a good watch, but ESPECIALLY Frozen 2. Encanto in this sense means “enchanted,” though it can also mean like a lot or love something, or charm/spell. There’s rumor of a second movie in the works, but it hasn’t been confirmed by Disney (to my knowledge)

The concept of the movie is based on a latin american literature root called "Realismo Mágico" (something like Magical Realism), where bits of reality are mixed with fantasy to create stories appeling to often tragic or complicated doings occuredd in latin american contries, such as forced (land) displacement and other political and cultural issues, through more artistic storytelling.

Since you have watched two Lin-Manuel Miranda things now (Hamilton and Encanto), he did the music for another movie called Moana that has some nice songs and a wonderful story. The guy who played George Washington in Hamilton sings a song in Moana, and The Rock also does a major character's voice part. You might like it!
@StoryMingАй бұрын
Abuela is… complicated. Yeah. Try not to hate her too much. She does mess up bigtime, but… reasons. The theory, which I don’t know whether it has ever been officially confirmed or not, is that Mirabel is slated to be Abuela’s successor as Keeper of the family Miracle. Notice, Abuela has no magic gift either- the Conductor stands out front, to lead the orchestra. By the very nature of the position, they do not play their own instrument.

This is one of my favorite movies hands down! I love that there’s so many different dynamics, and each character has their own thing going on and their own struggles that people can relate to just like in real life. At first you dislike Isabella and then you realize she’s been trapped in this role that she has the live up to with no room for error doing things that she doesn’t even want to do for the sake of the family, which is likely why she had resentment towards Mirabel for being able to be “free”.. her pressure for perfection was even limiting her powers and potential and affecting her ability to make things other than perfect little flowers.. that’s how you know that it was really weighing her down. Pressure was definitely my favorite song when I first watched this movie and even though it’s a total bop, it broke my heart for Louisa. And poor Dolores just never gets any peace of mind for her own thoughts.. Although, Dolores is pretty good at keeping secrets & I think she blurted out Mirables secret at their dinner because she low key didn’t want Isabella’s and ole dudes engagement to work out (can’t remember his name lol) I feel like someone’s said this but I definitely think the house and candle were Abuelos spirit.. And Mirabel is definitely the next matriarch. I have empathy for Abuela, even though I recognize she was putting too much pressure on everyone. She endured so much trauma. She witnesses her husbands death for starters.. and then had to pick up and get it together instantly to raise TRIPLETS, which is no easy feat, and simultaneously help the whole village..

When you said "its been 50 years, it should be okay", unfortunately not. What happened to Pedro and Alma (Abuela) is based on actual historic events in Colombia. That scene really did happen to people in Colombia around 1901 and sadly 50 years later the same troubles were starting up again. Abuela was right to fear what could happen if her family lost the protection of the powers.
