@@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons hey bob, good to hear from you! I am still chugging along with fingerstyle. It's one of my off and on hobbies that I always come back to and enjoy. I have been on a recent streak of about 3 months where i have played just about everyday for an hour or so! I am putting the finishing touches on a challenging song at the moment. It's souls like wheels by the avett brothers. A great song that helps polish various techniques like slides and keeping steady tempo with the thumb on bass strings. Take care bob!

I will go without guitar for a break and I find it refreshing many times to get back again, just as long as the layoff is not too long.. I am traveling now though and without a guitar- first time I have done a thing like this and I am having a guitar fit! Hope the Souls Like Wheels song is going well. happy 2020, year of the fingerstyle guitar!!

I was eager to discover the secret of the beautiful and subtle chords that enrich this song: thumb over the neck chords, a feature of Jimi Hendrix, I heard. Useful to avoid barre chords but not sure to succeed. Fortunately, Bob has cooked up a simplified version! Thanks Bob!
@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons6 жыл бұрын
it's got to be easier with the thumb on the other guitar you are using (instead of the wide neck classical). That neck as I recall was very wide!!. and would be so hard to reach the thumb over.
@yandeni6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob. Not so easy! No more trouble for thumb over neck. I get a clean A note (checked with Snark tuner). Everything is altered when I try forming the 3 other notes of the Fchord because my thumb changes its position slightly. So I should play this measure 6-3-4-2 in 2 steps: first, thumb alone on string 6 then lift it, then 3-4-2. Very slowly it's possible as showed by Larry at 7:36 but not faster... Moreover I have to release the thumb so that the other 3 notes sound properly. With time i hope improve!

Fantastic video, Bob ! we are lucky to study guitar with so good instructors. First feelings: Larry's F chord is impossible to play with my small hand and a classical guitar. I borrowed a folk dreadnought guitar (Gibson J-35 style) with 43mm at the nut instead of 53. I can reach 6th string, F is buzzing, hurts fingers with its steel chords... Maybe i go back to your so nice and easy F chord, but i dont give up too early. Both are pleasant. About left thumb, i am trying a trick for making it longer it : an old thimble to sew, best in silicone or rubber. It works! F doesn't buzz anymore.

Hey Viv, this is why I did those first videos in this series. Yes, your current guitar is difficult to play with such a wide neck. Wish I had money I would buy you a small neck guitar. Wow with this finger innovation... o, I have to hear more about this!!!

I’m enjoying watching you both playing along and explaining the chords and different changes. May I ask if Larry wears a false fingernail on his right thumb, which seems to make sense as the thumb is used so much. Love Larry’s hat. Thank you you are both wonderful people.

Hey Veronica, glad you like the video. Pretty certain no fake nail for Larry- he's kind of a real sort of guy... (ha ha). hope he reads this>.>.

Hiya Bob, I’m amazed that you both give up so much of your time to help students learn and play better. Larry’s hat has shrunk unless he has more than one. He suits it. I’ve watched again and just think his thumb nail is slightly longer. I love the interaction between you both.
@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons6 жыл бұрын
Larry doesn't know this yet but I'm going to trade some studio time for doing this. Very common for fingerstyle pickers to grow their thumb longer.. I'm an oddball with this as I play with short nails. Larry had a wide variety of hats!

hi viv, for some reason the subtitles that were automatically generated by KZbin are not there anymore, and the option of editing the mistakes are not even present. They are now asking me to type in all the words manually, or pay 50$ to a service to put the subtitles in... Oh my...as if I didn't have enough to do and now this... I guess from their perspective, they were loosing money by having this service available.. This is a new BIG PROBLEM!!!! Not sure what to do... a video like this would take me about 4 hours to type out.

Hi Bob, First of all, how are you going ? I observe with pleasure that you faithfully follow the comments but that you have not published anything for a long time. I guess you're too busy to publish. At this time of year, I assume that people are rushing to Silent Night and Amazing Grace! I hope everything is going well for you, whatever you do. I'm re-studying this great Dylan song and your awesome videos. Almost everything comes back under the fingers despite a long break, it's magic. I had understood that you had developed (or intended to?) the accompanying version with the fully built-in melody in finger picking. If that's right, do you intend to publish it some day? At the moment I am passionate about Native American Flute (NAF), with its bewitching sound. I ordered a flute in G key Pentatonic minor, hand made by a native craftsman in US. I hope to have the opportunity to talk about it or other things here or by email. I wish you a great December month, Bob. Gratefully, Viv.
@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons4 жыл бұрын
Hi VIV!!! Yes, I'm still here answering the channel which by the way is doing very well here.. More views, more subscribers (almost 100 thousand!) and no new videos all this time... so... it's good and bad. The last bunch of videos I did at least a year ago haven't done well at all, with hardly any views and virtually no growth. I keep looking and seeing that others on KZbin with the exception of a few sites have less views overall as well. I think this is due to the huge amount of lessons and there's only room for so many as they say. a little demoralizing working so hard on the video and a drop in the views for the new material. Still, I will get back, I promise... I've been so busy and lots of new stuff that I will have to tell you about sometime, but right now the latest thing is I am working on a new gospel course with a bass player and singer, but it is taking a long time to finish.. Larry was supposed to do the advanced Dylan lesson but I have to see what I can do to get him over here.. I saw him a few months ago in a jazz session but nothing with lesson stuff. I have one of those flutes !!!! Had a native American make it for me- he is from Florida. It is just sitting here- I never play it but it's beautiful.! Okay, we talk some more soon my dear VIV!!!
