Hey M Zieg, great to hear from you and thank you for taking the lessons here. I don't know how much time you spent on this one video, but I generally tell everyone to slow down and get one part at a time correct first before moving ahead. Some people can move ahead quickly while some people move a lot slower. But no matter how fast or slow anyone learns, the basic idea is to get in the reps and enjoy the process. If that's what you are currently doing then I say you are doing great. But if you are struggling though and not having any fun, please let me know because I can help. So the first question I have is and since you are on this lesson 1A, how did you do with lesson 1 of Fingerpicking For Beginners? Let me know okay... wishing you all the best on your guitar! bob

@@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons Thanks so much, Bob. I'll pick another video or 2 to learn from, today. I tried out the finger picking and I got the hang, of what the video had. I had a few troubles though, when I tried to pick, with my hands on chord D (without the 3rd string, like you posted in this video. It didn't seem to sound clear in the lower strings. Any ideas why?

@@GodsStoryteller So glad you are moving ahead!!! There's a number of common reasons why your easy D Chord (or any chord) is not sounding clear. I made a video here for that and hopefully one or all of the tips combined will help you get a clear sounding chord: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpaxpaykbJ1mmcU ... Please let me know if any of the tips help? I'm wishing you all the best!!! bob

Hi again Owlwyn Contessa, Big CONGRATULATIONS on making it through the course!!! (WAY TO GO!!!) Most people don't make it that far! The course you just completed and the follow up course were made back in 2014, and I've since moved my study guides/courses over to my Fingerpickingwithbob.com site, which has the courses in modular form (much easier to follow and you won't get lost). The PDF study guides got outdated and I had to re-do everything. Anyway, if you could go to Fingerpickingwithbob.com and sign in there, I will see your name and unlock the follow up course for you which is "lesson 13" + a lot more. You can always message me over there too in the coaching area. Again, great going on finishing Fingerpicking For Beginners!! Happy Sunday!! bob

Hi טל ביליה, this pattern works over any song in 4/4 timing (millions and millions of songs). Some direct songs that use this pattern that come to mind are Dust In the Wind, Freight Train, Windy and Warm, The Boxer, Landslide, Breath , Can't take it back, Kathy's Song, Dirt, Blowin' in the Wind, Country Roads, ... can keep going but James Taylor uses this (as well as most folk fingerstyle) and it's used in country music, pop music and even some jazz. I hope this helps!! bob

Hi Trey, there can any number of reasons why you are not getting notes to sound off including a problem with your guitar. But before I start guessing all possible problems, the most likely is you are not pressing down on the note(s) correctly. Here's a video that may help.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpaxpaykbJ1mmcU .. Give this a try and if you are still having problems, we will get into this deeper to resolve the issue. Hey j a s p e r n o r t h, thank you for commenting and taking the lesson here. The assigning fingers to strings is not the right way to fingerpick- And if you do such a thing.. wow, it's going to be a lot harder than this. In truth, there's no boundaries on guitar and no advanced guitarist will follow those guidelines. I highly recommend following along as I've shown, as this pattern allows you to use it over any chord, all without ever changing the basic pattern (only the strings we pluck will change when a different chord comes up). And with assigning fingers to strings, each time you change chords you would then have to play a new pattern using different fingers. Not only would it take years to learn, but you'll never gain any speed. So I hope you will give this a try. In the comments area, you'll see that people can learn this fairly quickly. I also have 12 other lessons in this series where we learn 3 more chords but still play this one same pattern. This is how it's done and I hope this helps... all the best on your guitar!! bob

For myself, at this point in time, tip #2. I've seen players grab an open strum between chords as well as couple-three string walk. As far as the keyboard metifore, I've always used the "biblical" style of typing. Seek, and ye shall find. 😇 Many thanks.

@@Luvurselffirst Hi Mira, yes, from one vid to the next you'll get a lot of variations with how much is included in the teaching. String numbers are important because it's the main reference to what strings we are plucking. Some people will call out the notes instead of the strings (E,B, G, D, A, E) but that's not a good method since there's more than just one way to tune a guitar and, if you use a capo.. what then?
