Naturally, I botched it on the first try and wound up getting The Adversary right off the hop. My first play through consisted of The Fury, The Wraith, The Den, The Razor and The Eye of the Needle. I finished the game and said "how in the hell is this a love story?" haha.

I love how Woolie and Reggie take turns reading the dialogue options. With the whole "multiple universe selves" thing it makes it sound as though the Hero is either 1) having an internal conversation with the Narrator and Contrarian, or 2) gradually unraveling and mulling through these decisions in his head. Especially in moments like 29:13 and 35:02

They have gotten really good at alternating between lines. Even at the very end of this video with the "everything goes dark, and you die," where they split the line in half without needing to decide they were doing it. It's a nice touch, I really like when they do visual novel/text adventure LPs together.

We got a to-do list here: one slaying is to be delivered to one princess. Although, I guess he does also spend a lot of time trying to not slay the princess by every means except your mentioned good guy mode.

If this was made into a show, honestly this route would be the perfect pilot episode to the story since it essentially encapsulates what the story is about (sort of) without overstaying its welcome as well as giving a taste and contextualizes the events of what's to come, and Woolie just managed to somehow did found it first by goofing off.

Reminds me of when I first went through The Stanley Parable. I decided to play along with the Narrator, never fully trusting him. Up until the split before the final room, the "Exit". And deciding to ignore the Narrator and earn the ending where you 'die' and get to wander the museum that goes over how the sausage is made, so to speak. Interesting to see Woolie get the same kind of experience, though at least this game seems to recognize if you do this too early and go "There's other ending you need to see to even understand what's going on IDIOT".

Sure, but then again, anyone familiar with choose-your-adventure type games should already know that the "say no to the adventure" choice always leads to either a joke ending or a meta ending. Usually you save that for later and want to get a taste of the actual game first.

The "turn around" option is the source of several newcomer pitfalls. Not only does it get you one of the weirder routes up-front, it's a secret route mulligan if you time it "right" - or a secret premature bad end if you do it twice. The game mostly does a pretty good job of making sure the player can keep going no matter what happens, but yes, this option should have been locked at first to ensure players establish a baseline run up-front.

I'm not tired of these kinds of narratives, but I feel like I'm supposed to be, I enjoy them while at the same time I roll my eyes at all this happening again, maybe that's some kinda meta statement on it all, that while I am familiar with these tricks no matter how many times I see them they never lose novelty. Try out "Who's Lila?" it's pretty good.
