funny thing is its basically a marketing term at this point. AES is a form of encryption made by the military, used by the military, but also used on almost every website you use, so like is it still military grade if everyone is using it?

And moreover there are and there had been a lot of military organizations in the world in the past 12000 years, so "military grade encryption" could pretty much mean substitution cypher that a literal child could decrypt... And for pete's sake, plain HTTPS uses actual military grade encryption...

1: I like that this video actually points out some of the beneficial things that the technique can produce, like age simulation, instead of just being doom and gloom and end of the world like most people talking about the topic. 2: At least one slightly famous person I know of has responded to the possibility of deepfake-based blackmail by saying "Go ahead and make lots of deepfakes of me. That way, when someone posts a video of me saying something objectionable, I can just say it's another fake." Which is actually a pretty good idea. I should start on a library of fake quotes for myself in case I ever become moderately famous.

I've played around on this website many times and this seems to be a common side effect of the neural network as it focuses on the main subject it's attempting to create, rather than supplementary people/objects or background settings. I believe it is because the main focus is accurately recreating a convincing face and most of the processing is allocated to that task, as it only seems to attempt to create quasi realistic settings, backgrounds, objects and other "people" with varying degrees of success. Almost anytime a subject is generated with another individual in frame you get something very similar to this.

The problem with General Adversarial Networks is that its nearly impossible to automate(eg algorithms/other AI) detection against it. Because whatever technique you're using to detect it, it could just use that as the detector part it has to overcome while generating/training. The only way to combat it (for a few years - until we can no longer do that) is by using human specialists to detect fakes. Be it faked videos or bots on social networks. in a few years, even that will no longer be an option and we have no idea how to tell truth from fake anymore except perhaps for how trustworthy the source might be.

One major thing that must be kept in mind with Deepfakes is this: When FakeApp rose to fame in 20I7 and 20I8, the development time required to make Face Models was still unbearably long due to its heavy use of CUDA, as it required users to be running on the flagship Pascal series Nvidia cards (in this case, the 1080 Ti, Titan X Pascal/Xp, Quadro P6000, and Quadro GP100); with the rise of Nvidia RTX cards through the Turing and Ampere Eras and beyond, the development of Deepfakes will become far faster because of the architecture optimizations, higher core counts, Tensor and Raytracing Cores, and significantly improved performance, though it must be kept in mind that we still don't have a lot of people using Deep Learning applications and websites in North America, and in turn, we don't have tens of millions of people who own an HEDT system to develop Deepfakes on, so the bigger concern with the practice right now, at least in the United States, is more a matter of how much is produced at a fast pace by the select few who actually have the resources than how many actually have this to use at their personal liberty, which is what has led to the confusion in this debate. Ultimately, the Deepfake practice will mostly end up being used in a Safe for Work environment by entertainers who want to make remasters of original works or personalized original programs for their own broadcasting channels and networks, my own group included in this ambition: Eventually, we will be able to make TV Show/Feature Film~length works featuring Live Action and Pre~Rendered footage without the need of having the original physical source material (in this case, our humanoid workforce, as well as locations, lifeforms, and inanimate objects) so that the lot of dedication to projects can be focused mostly through editing in software and not recording thousands of hours of camera and studio~based footage, thus development time will tank by a significant margin; how long this take to be more common practice lies heavily on the hardware advancements from 2020 to 2029, we don't know what to expect from the so~called Ultraviolet Chip Era of CPUs and GPUs but either way I see it, custom generated footage through Deep Learning will only become easier to do and take over a good amount of the industry, we're already seeing this in feature films but eventually everything will have it, it's all a matter of when now.
