I’m a maintenance guy at an apartment complex and pulling the toilet is the absolute last thing we would do with a clogged toilet. The first thing we’d do is use the plunger. Then we’d use the auger. 99% if the time the auger will get it out. Do we ever pull a toilet? Yes absolutely but most of the time it’s done without pulling the whole toilet.

Great argument for always keeping the toilet lid closed between uses. Makes the chances of accidentally dropping small items in that'll plug up the works far less likely.

Yep and also don’t be like me and have sink holes open with no protection plug for drainage. Those metal or plastic sink plugs with the holes in them work great to stop things going down the sink. My laundry sink didn’t come with one built in and I think a spring from the Tap fell down my sink and it’s been the worst block I have had ever cos I know it’s not just loo roll etc.
@flagmichael2 жыл бұрын
@@NMW80 We had a blockage in the line between the laundry and the kitchen. I tried a cheapo snake from Harbor Freight but it didn't reach the clog. Then I got some caustic drain cleaner and still no good. Finally a beefier and longer snake from the hardware store broke it free. Another customer I met at the store enlightened my why the drain cleaner was useless - instead of a greasy blob it was lint and dog hair and sand from clothes that formed the blockage.

the auger worked like a charm. starting out the auger barely went in a foot or so. kept on turning it for about 3 minutes; started to see some dissolved paper. kept on turning and that auger went in a little more. here I started shoving the auger in and out to attack the blockage and then spin some more and the auger went all the way in the whole 3 feet. total 6-7 minutes. you might feel like giving up after 3 minutes if nothing happens; keep going don't give up cause you have the right tool.😀😀😀😀

I work on a building with 180 toilets, but I've also always done tradeswork on my days off. There are some brands of toilet that are designed in such a way as to make the auger cable turn around within the toilet. One I remember as American Standard model "Plebe". I could add a lot more, but won't in an old thread.

You have me a bit worried. We had a rather large clog. Got the shower drain with minimal plunging, the hand wash bowl wax easy. But the shower drain kept hiding. Eventually we decided there must be multiple routes. I didnt want to plunge where the shower drain went. That and hot water made something loosen up. Wouldn't be a rich plumber i think I did it 3 times and i think something to soften would have been better. Creepy going into the shower afterwards, despite repetitive cleaning but by the end i think there is a free flow.

Hey! Thanks so much for this video! The strangest thing we had to pull out of a toilet was a stick (in its plastic container) of deodorant! Maybe most people know this next trick. I don't keep anything sitting on the lid of my toilet. If I flush and the water starts to rise too much, I yank that lid off and push the flapper over its hole. No more water enters the bowl, and there's no overflow mess.

The stupid loo I have at home won’t flush properly unless you stand there and hold the button down which is annoying but so many times ppl just press it once and walk away and that doesn’t flush good enough. From now on I am legit going to pour buckets of warm soapy water down the loo every few days to give the pipes a good clean cos of my stupid loo just doesn’t flush good enough. Even when ya hold the button down it just won’t flush very well. It’s something the government done to conserve water but it’s just ridiculous and it’s unhygienic to have them buttons on our toilets 🚽

It would have never occurred to me to take the toilet outside and flip it over outside. The only additional thing I did was take the tank off before carrying outside because I wasn't strong enough to carry it fully assembled. I found an object at the very bottom. I couldn't wait to get the toilet put back together and in place to see if it was gonna work. I flushed... Thank you SO much for your hard work in showing us this video. I am old, female, and live alone so I can't do the last trial! And I have a plumber coming today to set my hot water heater that he didn't set high enough last time he was here, But...I am NOT telling him I have a stopped up toilet and pay him another $109 for a visit!!! My little toilet stops up too often and I usually know how to fix it, after calling him out here every month the first several years of living in this old house (toilet is not old though, just a small average one, but It gets clogged too often, maybe every two months now. Bought an accordian type plunger and that usually solves it, but I have to keep diluting the "MESS" for several days to clean up the "mess" as best I can before using plunger!!! Too nasty for me and it is from my own "MESS"!!!!! I'm that gaggy!!! Yuck!!! So, I just keep pouring hot hot water in for days to let it kinda clear itself out a bit!!! I keep candles burning in there, too!!! Thank goodness I have 2 toilets in the house!!! And just saw a tip to use the hot hot water along with lots of dish soap. Hope this helps! And I pour gallons of CLorox Bleach in there too!!! Wish me luck, AGAIN! But, thank you soooo much. I learned lots! You are so sweet!!!

Look at an air plunger, we have a balky toilet and that is what I decided on now that the accordion has finally given up the ghost. I have decided on one that uses C02 cartridges which are about 45 cents each, so that my wife doesn't have to struggle with pumping up the air reservoir, and the C02 device looks like a wand and is not bathroom obtrusive behind the toilet. I haven't bought it just yet, but it's called a sureplunge and from my research it is the one to go with.
@3markaw4 жыл бұрын
Why are you pouring "gallons" of Clorox down the drain ? It's not doing anything functional , just wasting your time and money. Clorox is for killing germs outside and on the surface of the commode.
@jessejames33604 жыл бұрын
Very Bad idea to add Clorox bleach. The bleach reacts with the ammonia in urine creating chloramine gas which can damage your throat, lungs & can be fatal depending on how much is inhaled. Also the bleach kills the bacteria in the septic tank so solids will not break down & your system can back up leading to expensive repairs.

Outside toilets were the norm in the UK until the 1980s. My Dad grew up in a tiny terraced house in a mining village in South Wales during the 'thirties, with no bathroom and only an outside toilet. Imagine having to go out there during the harsh winters! And his dad, a coal miner, would come home from work literally black and my gran would heat buckets of water on the kitchen hearth (a real fire), and fill a tin bath for him to have an all-over wash in the small room they called the parlour (their living room /lounge, and the only warm room in the house in those pre central heating days). It's a cliche I know, but kids really don't know their born today - nor do many adults!

Instead of a long deep stroke of the plunger, I do the following: Fill up the bowl half full. Insert the plunger and push once to expel the air. Then I go into high frequency but shallow stroke mode. This doesn’t splash so much and generally gets most clogs on their way. (I’ve used hot wat and dawn at times as well)

Thank you so much for this. Im a caregiver for adults with disabilities and I am tired of dealing with clogged toilets from them lol They dont always use an appropriate amount of toilet paper. THIS TIME, I have been struggling to get the toilet unclogged. I took the toilet apart after watching your video and I found a vape pen covered in toilet paper lodged at the seal. smh

I need help! I washed a small pillow and it exploded in tje washer and drained some of the synthetic filling. Now if i wash a FULL LOAD my toilet gurgles and my tub backs up but eventually drains. Where is the clog??

Well you my friend inspired me with the Catch Basin Drain System. Now, your inspiring me with unclogging a clogged Sewer Pipe. Can't thank you enough for your inspiration and thoroughness. I have tried Dawn with at least a Dozen Gallon Hot Water Buckets. But trying your auger method finally did it without toilet extraction. Thanks!

When I snake the toilet, I feed the cable through a piece of auto heater hose to keep from scratching the porcelain. I don't add water to the bowl when it is clogged. If I need to empty the tank I bail it with a cup and a bucket. To test that the clog is cleared, I don't risk an overflow by flushing the toilet. I pour a bucket of water into the bowl: a little at first, and more if it is clear.

Hey Chuck. Thanks for throwing it together like that. I've dealt with this numerous times for so many people over the years. Now bc of this video they can see what's going on & have some idea.
