Don’t use pants! 😮

There is a lot of lies and old truths in commercials and in the outdoor community that seems to never die out, for new hikers that could mean a BAD first experience! Today it's about pants and what not to use... all to give you a better start in YOUR NEW HOBBY!

Beat cancer last spring so for my first big physical challenge post cancer my buddy and I did a packing trip. I invested in light weight, quick dry pants to protect me from sun, poison ivy and ticks. I have also used the canoeing and at festivals.

I'm looking for pants with knee pads, stretchy and breathable. I already plan to get boots (lowa mk2) and I have a jacket that's cool and strerchy from Under Armor. I whanna get into hiking or trekking so I'm still thinking of a backpack to get.

Agreed that heavy hiking pants never made sense to me. Nobody ever recommends synthetic warmup pants for hiking, but they are my favorites. Or scrubs! Super lightweight and cheap. The warmups are lightweight, breathe well, and the cuffs are stretchy enough to pull over my boots. Perhaps it's just me, but I find two layers of warmups more comfortable than base layer leggings. Bonus: Two layers of light warmups weigh less than one pair of stronger pants. Some tropical weight pants are even better in desert/mountain sun, although I prefer shorts for more humid weather. Tall gaiters (like OR Helium) double as "legs" for my shorts. They work for wind and rain, and pair well with a poncho or kilt. The best part is that they ventilate better than rain pants. That said, rain pants do serve a purpose in cold and windy conditions. They are good safety gear when the weather changes unexpectedly.

I layered my light weight pants with base layers and was quite cozy at a festival in October.

Nasty ones yes… but I don’t believe you get less using different/thicker pants. If that is your point?
