Don't Wait Too Long To Collect Wii Games

I know you've been holding off on collecting Wii Games. I feel like it's a sleeping dragon and a ticking time bomb for exploding in price sooner rather than later. In this video I go over my general thoughts on getting into Wii Collecting in today's market and also give some quick recommendations and examples of why it's worth collecting for Wii if you've written it off this long.

Your statement about being able to tell if someone's Wii collection was curated is so true, I get legitimately a little sad looking through Wii console/game bundles and seeing nothing but shovelware trash and knowing for a fact that those games were the only thing the Wii had going for it in their mind.

the Wii is one of my all-tme favorite consoles, and actually got me back into gaming after years on hiatus. I was simply amazed by the unique controls and all the fun ways they were implemented into the games. I still prefer motion controls in first-person games on the Switch, like Metroid Prime Remastered. I have most of those games you showed in the video, as well as a couple more gems like A boy and his blob, Red Steel 2, Zack & Wiki, Little King's story, the Boom blox games, Dawn of Discovery, Wario Land Shake it, as well as several more "hidden" gems.

Point and click games and lightgun games really worked on the Wii. We don't get many local multiplayer games anymore either, so I'd pick up those kinds of games.

Opoona and arc rise Fantasia are both really solid and truly rare RPGs exclusive to the Wii. A lot of people bring up Xseed's Pandora's Tower, The Last Story, and Fragile Dreams. Those games have a lot going for them to push demand and price, but they are a lot more common than Opoona or Arc Rise. Ivy the Kiwi and Juon are the two truly standoutishly rare Xseed games for the Wii.

N64 would be nice to hear you talk about. The market for that system is currently flooded with repros and I think you scrolling through eBay, pointing out the obvious repros and ways people can pick them out would be nice and informative

I’m actually not well versed in detecting GOOD repro carts for N64. They are getting really convincing these days. Outside of people opening the cart up to show you it’s getting hard to spot the fakes that don’t want you to know they’re fake to begin with. I can discuss fake/repro carts/cases/labels etc in a broad sense though and why this is really bad for our hobby.

Ive been waiting for 2 years for you to do a collecting guide for Xbox 360 pete. I even went on a few of your live streams and asked and you said it would be coming soon. You need to do one soon because the e shop is closing and a lot of people are interested in collecting for the 360 and need to know what games they should get physically before the prices skyrocket.

I liked this a lot. The thing that got me the most is the ICO display in the background…amazing. SOTC is the best game of all time. When they remade it, it was the only announcement that made me tear up. A lot of people don’t know about the Wii. Awesome video.

Another great thing about the wii is the ability to play arcade and rail shooters on modern tvs to get that light-gun experience without the need to buy peripherals or own a CRT. Would love to hear your thoughts on Genesis collecting right now, as I’ve just gotten into it myself

I've also really come to appreciate the Wii's library over the years. It's great for light gun games for example--House of the Dead 2 and 3, Ghost Squad, and LA Machineguns are just awesome pick up and play experiences.

You just popped up on my feed 😊 I remember buying so many Wii games back at university - I think some hidden gems are Boom Blox, Red Steel 2, Little King’s Story, Sin & Punishment 2, definitely Opoona and Zack and Wiki! The last game there is surprisingly really tricky at times and the motion controls are incredibly specific at times (like using a saw to cut a tree) but it’s such a great little IP that will never see the light of day again 😢 the Wii is honestly a great console.

definitely! and a few of the games also looked on par or even better than most Xbox360/Ps3 games - Red Steel 2, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, and Metroid Prime 3 instantly comes to mind. the remasters on Switch proves that the only thing missing was HD resolution, Galaxy and Skyward Sword especially look really great in HD.

Gamecube got super popular for collecting a few years ago. Then I was waiting for Wii to get popular next. It got skipped and Wii U got super popular to collect. Maybe in a few years Wii will get the love it deserves. It’s been my favorite console to collect for the past 10 years. Once you collect all the games you want there are ENDLESS variants, double packs, special editions to go after - and it’s a super uncharted territory.

I mainly collect Sega developed or Sega published games. Also, games that are arcadey or retro compilations are fun to have (e.g. SNK Arcade Vol 1, Metal Slug Anthology, Data East Arcade Classics, Namco Museum Mega Mix, King of Fighters Orochi Sage, and Ultimate Shooting Collection). In addition, my favorite version of DDR (Disney Grooves) and Rock Band 3 with midi keyboard control.

Great little chat 😊 I am collecting all the Wii games at the moment from all regions and all the limited editions and demos. I put them up every day on my channel as i'm creating a full library of everything available for the wii so in the future people can see how it came sealed or what the booklet looked like etc because just like other consoles sooner or later the prices are going to go up and at that point is when the bootlegs start, so my library will help new collectors to the wii decide if it came like that because there are many variants of loads if titles. The problem I am having at the moment is with the US titles and Austrailian, being in the UK I have to pay imports and postage charges in excess so a shuffleware title like say baby sitting moma is costing between 50 and 100 dollars so every time I see a game that I need from the US it is digging holes in my finances, the games you showed like rhythm fever etc their nearly 200 dollars. But needs be needs so I'm having to grab titles the best I can. Sometimes I'll see like the 4 reader rabbits for a decent price but after all the charges they are so expensive it's ridiculous. But yea I do agree with you grab the Wii now while you can because it's going up even the shuffleware especially if you are planning on buying out of region titles😊 Do you know what's a great title for the Wii? Calling..... This is underated and now becoming pricey too ... Great vid matey. Oh yea nearly forgot tgere is over 5000 wii titles for all regions 😢

Wii is an interesting console. You had to already have the foresight to see a gem on the wii. I was grabbing wii titles back in 2017. Ultimate shooting collection, heavenly guardian and munchables just to name a few. I usually grab unique looking games with strange covers and art styles. 100% agree, now if you're collecting for wii, there is some homework required. Great vid

Opoona is one I don't have but i have had a search result bookmarked for a long time now and it was about £20 when i orignally considered getting it and now its about £35. I like to collect RPG as its my fav genre, but that game just doesn't look like something id like, why I keep passing on it. I did get Arc Rise when it was alot cheaper luckily it's not very ambious but some times you want something safe. Why I think there is an underground fan base for Kemco RPG.

I officially stopped collecting for it once I spilled for Dokapon Kingdom, unfortunately shortly before It dropped in price when the Switch port was announced. I've got a lot already between two regions (PAL - United Kingdom and NTSC - US). But... *looks at GameCube and Wii U* here go again! Some favs of mine that are still cheap Domino Rally - really cool puzzle action game with major “lol Japan” vibes. Speed Racer - Great arcade racer Rodea - comes packaged with the Wii U version and is a great gimmicky 3d platformer Dragon Quest Swords - lightgun RPG basically. Full DQ style rpg campaign. Can’t believe this one’s still so cheap

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars is the best of it's kind when it comes to "Marvel vs Capcom" games, that is still exclusive to the Wii. It's controller system and combat is way more simple than others in the "vs. Capcom" series. I bought it for 2 bucks nearly a decade ago, and it's still my favorite fighter game even if I still have no clue who the characters in the Tatsunoko portion of the game are.

uhhh Yes and NO. Yes historically Nintendo consoles and games have gone up in prices after a long time, but the thing about the Wii is and was it's popularity. So many consoles were mass produced, heck my family owned 4 (one we bought by accident). That's how common they had become. The games were re-released often and prices were cut often, not to mention that a huge chunk of the Wii's library is shovel-ware that's probably not going to go up in value unless they were short printed. Wii's don't break down as quickly as it's brethren consoles and the Wii U was a thing, which behaved as a pseudo-extension of the Wii. Isn't it telling that the Wii U has become valuable than the Wii which preceded it? Just my TID_BIT

Super Nintendo, N64, and NES are all very expensive systems to collect for and they were very popular like the Wii. It means that YES the Wii will become extremely collectible.

Yes the games have been ported over, but there are still features of those games that are exclusive to the Wii U. Wii U games still hold a lot of weight, partly because of the short-print. But that's thing! Whereas the Wii U was short printed the Wii and it's games was the most mass produced console of all time

If someone were to put $5k into quality collectible Wii uncommon games like the ones Pete and others are mentioning, their investments would go a lot further than what $5k in Wii u junk will get you. Everyone jumped on the "Wii u to the moon" when it was being phased out a few years ago, and price got over inflated and now it's been slowly losing value consistently. Wii is a smarter play.

Cartridges don't degrade. Discs do. You have that completely backwards. And it's a moot point. The Wii u has discs that go bad without any reason. They were designed to fail over time. Does that make working Wii u games more rare? Yes. Does that make them more valuable? No. Because people don't want low quality junk that's going to brick on them.

Little King’s Story, Order Up!, and Octomania are my picks for unique Wii games that (probably) won’t break the bank. (LKS got a PS Vita port, but that one is much rarer.) Sakura Wars: So Long My Love is also worth it if you’ve a bit more to spend.

I went on such a Wii tear about 10 years ago. I got so many games for really cheap and I made sure to get all of the standout RPGs, horror, and just weird games that seemed cool. Just remember the 20 year rule, Nintendo stuff that has a lower availability will skyrocket at that point. We saw it with every generation up until now, it won't be any different with the Wii.

Just recently got my hands on Silent Hill Shattered memories for the Wii for a good 90 bucks. Definitely would spend that much over the PS2 version.

Talk about collecting for the Xbox 360 next. Im currentyl selling my collection with plans to reobtain it. However, many prices for games on the 360 have increased in price. The transformers War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron games are just some examples.

I find doing the homework the most fun part of collecting. I start off on meta critic at everything 55 percent and above. A hell of a lot of 55 percent rated games are absolutely worth it. A lot of games that get scored higher do so because they are a part of a franchise or similar reason and these scores do not always reflect how good the actual games are.

The wii is great. Honestly, I stuck to classic controller and GC controller for quite awhile. Then i realized the Wii set up is a controller in two parts. Then it's easy. And it's pretty easy to find good games. Metal Jesus has done around 8 videos. Gaming off the grid is great too. I'd put Wii games in roughly three tiers. 1: Must have. Mario Galaxy. 2: Good games, but... not essential. Like Mushroom Men. 3. Crap, but worth 2-10 bucks. And prices are all over the place. About the shovel ware thing, well, that's not entirely wrong. But, look at any console. 2600 for example. Tons of crap and things that look iffy. But at the right price, take a shot. Why not? Something like Tatsunoko V Capcom is expensive. Cool, but probably not worth it. But Sky Crawlers an anime air combat game is pretty cheap. Speed Racer, Astro Boy, whatever. Not big names, but definitely worth the time.

Also, I’ve heard that the Wii version of Rodea the Sky Soldier is actually pretty good. The Wii and WiiU versions came bundled together, and the slapped-together WiiU port is the one that got killed in reviews. I should get around to trying it.

Yeah I still need to play Rodea, I also heard the Wii version is the one to go with. I love how I can still be excited to play Wii games for the first time so many years later

Not sure if I'm alone on this but I've always have felt collecting for the Wii is very similar to collecting for the 2600. You run into the same few dozen commons endlessly and really have to know the really good hard to find stuff.

I am definitely in the camp of people who lose all interest in the Wii as soon as they think about having to set up the stupid sensor bar. Love the Wii hardware, but those motion controls suck all the excitement out of it for me.
