Don’t Waste Edible Icing Sheets | How to Get the Most out of your Icing Paper

Hey guys!
In this video, I show you my technique for maximizing the use of your edible icing sheets. I try to print as much as I can on one sheet because I hate waste and I think this is a good system! LOL

Nope! I keep them in the silver envelope that the icing sheets come in. (I always save them for future storage.). If you don't have any of those, you can store in a ziplock bag, but it won't last as long as if you have them in the silver envelopes. (May dry out faster)

I store all of my cakes in the refrigerator. You just have to be careful if you live in a hot / humid climate. You don't want the cake to sweat after you take it out of the fridge because it could mess up the pictures. So you have to bring it out of the fridge into a cool air conditioned room to help it gradually come to room temperature.

Hey my cake friend, ok my question is when printing a edible image to not waste the rest of the paper everytime I print a image do I have to cut it off to print another image on the same paper like you did on the video, at the end when you printer the friends image and the other 2 images at the same time you didn't cut any of them off I hope I'm making sense trying to explain!

I'm not sure I understand your question? I used this sheet previously and cut the image off of the backing and saved the unused part. Then I printed the 3 other images on there. After they were printed, I peeled them off the acetate and cut them and put them on the cake. Were you asking something different?

Hi Karolyn, I am inquiring how long edible images last on fondant. I know fondant keeps a while when stored properly. how far in advance can you apply the images to the fondant . Just not sure how long the images last. thank you

Hi Amanda! I usually don't apply the images to fondant more than 5 days in advance. I'm sure they could last longer, I just never have done that yet!

I haven't printed more than a week in advance. But after speaking with the owner of Icing Images last night, she said they can last pretty long (a few weeks) in the bag. Just make sure it's sealed so no air gets in there. And I printed the one first, then realized I needed 2 other small images, so I used the same sheet to print the last 2!

If youre going to store sheets with prints in them do they ever bleed over time?

I never had them bleed, make sure the ink is completely dry before you store them. And storing them in the mylar envelopes is the best to prevent them from drying out, so never throw those away!

I have seen a cookie decorator turns little squares of icing sheets into a medium to fill lace mats too... she just dips them in water and then uses a palette knife to spread over the lace mats, you could use your tiny scraps after cutting out the images to do that too.

Is it practical for me to own an edible printer even though I do cakes as a hobby only and I may not use it as often as you do. How do I maintain it

When I wasn't using the printer a lot, I would ask my cake friend who lives 15 min away to print images for me from time to time. I invested in the system when I realized that I was spending a lot on individual prints and would be saving money in the long run if I just bought the whole thing. If you don't use it a lot, then I wouldn't recommend getting one. Just because you have to make sure that you print religiously to prevent the ink from clogging in the print head.

Hello. Thanks for your great help. I bought my printer because I felt safe when I saw your video. I know it in icing image, but I have had a problem because when printing, the image runs. :(, that is, it starts to print 1.5 "from the edge of the paper, call icing images, but they say to use Word. and they couldn't help me. I did the margin adjustment that they recommend, but although I improve, 1" still not I can use it ... and that makes what I print run, in turn it cuts my images and I have lost many sheets.: "(some help. I would say to use them within 3-4 weeks. But make sure you store them in a dry & cool place, preferably in the silver envelope they come in. If you only have a ziplock bag, I would use them within a few days.

The icing sheets will dry out and crack when exposed to air for long periods of time, so you may have issues with that.

@@KarolynsKakes awesome. I'm using mines for the first time this week. You have helped tremendously. Please confirm I will be able to put several pictures at one time on the sheet and then print. Also i live in a very humid area so how long before I deliver the cake should I put the images on the cake. I have not had luck with the putting them in the fridge because of the humidity.

@@miaalexander1504 I frequently print multiple images on a sheet at once. And if you're in a humid climate, I'd wait to put them on the cake until right before you deliver it. You can print them and cut them out in advance, but keep them sealed in a plastic bag until you're ready to use them.

@@monicabolanos7753 yes, in order to have a totally edible printing system, you must use a brand new (never used with regular ink) printer with edible ink cartridges. :)
