I know it are just themes of the movie. But i'm just wondering why did you choose to call it progress??? Progress would insinuate going toward something better, right? So what's the thing that would be better? I mean, isn't she in the end of the movie: - alone; - in the middle of the dessert; - without food nor water; - without a place to stay; - without a job or prospect of an job; - without a partner; - without friends; - without goal; - etc. In my estimation that would be degression not progression. Not that i don't understand the motive to flee. Of course she flees, i mean no human can live a life of only doing what you have to do. Every human rebels against that. I did that as well and couldn't keep going on in that way! I always asked myself if there is a way out of this conundrum? Is there an answer to this hard problem? Well i have found an answer to this problem! You see, all that world religions offer is lists of things you have to do because otherways you are evil. And all that this does is create resentment and bitterness. There is one exception to this and it's not religion, it's a men, a person!!! 2022 years ago there was born an men send by God to set us free of this conundrum. And his name was Yeshua (better know Jesus). All that religion does is chain us down to rules but the men Yeshua sets us free. All we need to do is receive his gift. We do that by confessing our short commings to him, asking him to help us to be enough and trust that he has paid with his blood for our short commings. ''For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.'' Romans chapter 6 vers 23. The gift of God is that he will ignite in your hearth a flame of desire to do what is good. Then it's no strugle anymore against what you have to because you want to!!! May our Lord and God bless you and be with you always. In Yeshua's name, Amen!!!🕊❤😇

Sorry but the Chris pine’s wife stabbing him seemed so forced and comically unnecessary. They could’ve wrote in moments where it almost vaguely seemed like Florence’s character was getting help and getting nudged in the right direction but the dude’s wife is like the main female oppressor. If she wanted to part of the resistance or she wanted to be the new person in power, the should’ve shown moments of that. Instead she just came out of nowhere and stabbed him.

I think she realized he was weak in that moment and took advantage. I actually saw her as a representation of the kind of women who try to control and keep other women down. Like Serena Joy in The Handmaid’s Tale. I don’t think she’s on Alice’s side. I don’t think she’s good. I think she’s hoping that she can be the powerful, admired one now.

I just want to point out that your final take on the ending is your assumption. We hear what sounds like her waking up but have no idea if she does and what happens after. It's entirely possible she could have been better off staying inside, as who knows how long they've been gone and what her physical or mental state is like coming out of that. The men got to take breaks everyday but she's been "plugged in" for seemingly weeks. Not to mention does she still have a job waiting for her, seems like she was abducted by Jack, so did everyone presume her dead? also does time flow the same way there, I don't see how he can earn enough to keep the lights on and everything within a work day, especially considering he's sort of depicted as lazy. Point is we have no idea what happened after she touched the HQ. It's all our imagination.

I really enjoyed your analysis. I just finished watching and, having no one right here to discuss it with in the moment, felt a need for a little 'reality check' of my own. I did not know that this was adapted from a novel but did immediately recognize 'Stepford' 2022. There are a number of your perceptions that clicked with my own (examples: the black and white image as 'conditioning' the symbolism of the child's plane, etc. ). Given that I fairly quickly recognized this movie as a 'Stepford' reboot, I presumed that the time period / setting was a virtual world. Moving forward, I would like to add this point: Yes, a patriarchal world. But, to me, much more than that. My thought: 'Invasion Body Snatchers' movie adaptations presented a slightly different perspective based upon the time period when re-booted. So, for me, as the movie proceeded, I found myself not simply focused upon Patriarchy/Feminism but our current political/cultural landscape. Order versus Chaos. The actual America presented in the movie is a tough place to live. And the choice that some individuals make in the movie? Trade facing the challenges that 'chaos' offers by retreating to a past, fantasized 'greater' America.

Yeah i totally see what you’re saying. I know the novel isn’t credited as the source for an adaptation, but this film was most certainly inspired by The Stepford Wives. The two stories are almost identical, and the subject matter and themes are exactly the same. My assumption is that the studio didn’t have the rights to the property, so they created a very similar story in the screenplay without direct links to character names and location names. But to me there’s no way I could believe this wasn’t inspired by the novel. And I feel like the novel really deserves its credit, at least in this video. I hope you see what I mean. And thank you for watching!
@RedHedyLamarr
@RedHedyLamarr Жыл бұрын
I think based on and inspired by are two very different things and it’s important to note. I know you said inspired by in the video but art inspired from art is still very much it’s on entity and it’s important to recognize that. The themes are similar but I think you could just as much argue this movie was inspired by the matrix. Or, you could say the matrix was inspired by the stepford wives-but the matrix is it’s own unique pieve. Based on versus inspired by are important distinctions in art. Just food for thought-not trying to be harsh or mean but I think the author of the original screenplay should have more credit for original thought. Great video.

@@lucasblue20 yeah its definitely inspired by Stepford Wives, the trailer was plenty to give that much away. I think this story takes even one step further because it seemed like the flashbacks to the real world suggested Alice broke up with Jack at some point, but when he signed up for the program he "selected" her to be his wife regardless.
@lucasblue20
@lucasblue20 Жыл бұрын
@@RedHedyLamarr yeah, I agree with your overall point. I personally don’t really think Matrix is comparable in this situation because the storyline and characters and visuals are dramatically different in The Matrix when compared to The Stepford Wives and Don’t Worry Darling, even though there may be some thematic and conceptual overlap, which I understand. But it’s undeniable that Don’t Worry Darling’s premise, main character, visuals, wardrobe, locations, and thematic message is almost identical in many ways to The Stepford Wives (to the point that it seems so incredibly obvious). I just believe the novel really needs its credit in this case. However, I completely agree with you that I shouldn’t have said/wrote “based on” and “original book” at the beginning, and should have only said “inspired by” throughout this video. The novel deserves its credit, but the screenwriter of DWD deserves credit too, as you’ve said. I was a little too presumptuous for sure. Glad you enjoyed the video, and I’m really grateful you addressed this. Thank you! I’ll make sure to keep this in mind for future vids, you make a great point!

I really like your analysis of this film! The film isn't perfect and there are plotholes, but I think DWD is a bit Lynchian and the viewer has to actively look for layers of meaning. I feel like other reviewers didn't take into account that not everything is meant to be taken literally and some things in the film are symbolic.

Although this is a great analysis, I still have many questions which are left unanswered. Alice's life in the real world now seems to be in shambles. How is she going to recover from this : 1. Her husband/boyfriend has died. In the real world, either she has to report the death or hide/dispose the body. As a real life surgeon, maybe she has the resources and gumption to dispose off the body. If she reports, she will be tried for murder, if she doesn't she will forever live in fear of getting caught. 2. Alice really loved Jack which is apparent throughout the movie. Her goal was to only escape the illusionary world not kill Jack. When she returns to the real world, the trauma of having killed Jack will hit hard. It's rather uncertain that she can continue a normal life after everything she has gone through even if she is acquitted in court. In my opinion, even if Alice has escaped, her life has been ruined nevertheless.

My reading of the themes of the movie line up with yours for the most part but I still didn't care for the movie. It really dragged for me and then just info dumps in the last fifteen minutes. I think way too much runtime was devoted to her hallucinations if the explanation is limited to her subconscious rebelling against the simulation. And Shelley killing Frank with no setup or explanation is very jarring as well. I am fine with movies with ending open to interpretation but when too many things are open to interpretation it can muddy the message of the film.

this movie is nothing but clips of other movies spliced together very badly as all the ideas conflicted with each other and contradicted each other. this isnt about obedient robotic wives, its about frank trying to make alice happy again cuz he thinks she is miserable. if frank was doing this for his wife with the best of intentions, why is there an evil bad guy super villain withe a super villain fortress seemingly bent on world domination? leave the simulation part out of it and that might have made sense. why did the super villain's wife suddenly kill him with no explanation? why wasnt margaret just unplugged? reset, rebooted and re inserted just like alice was? if they cant be rebooted back into the simulation, keep them out, end their contract. cuz what really is sinister is that they are doing it against the will of the people who dont know they are in a simulation and that part was completely left out of the story. so why not mix that into the story that its voluntary and alice's mind just isnt compatible and cant accept it and keeps waking up out of it like a bad dream? cuz the other idea that anyone who might expose the crime needs to be killed doesnt make sense since frank has to work it butt off at a job he hates to pay for this simulation and there are not that many people in the simulation to think there is that much money to protect in such a high tech venture. to much contradictions were left in while to much of what would have made the movie make sense was left out. especially the non ending as if your dad shut the movie of with ten minutes to go cuz its late on a school nite and you never get to really witness the climax of the story nor the anti climax. maybe olivia wilde lost the last reel by accident even tho we all know they dont use film anymore. this is the problem, the movie goes in too many directions at once. it doesnt even use one direction to distract you from the other like red herrings are supposed to do. it has the best of intentions mixed evenly together with the worst of intentions. might as well have been two different movies playing side by side. it mixed the matrix with alice in wonderland, stepford wives, and mostly from the originator of that style, c s lewis, the hideous strength. big mysterious and all powerful corporation with just as mysterious big bad boss super villain that was kinda made into the movie the circle. it takes some from truman show as well as eternal sunshine. how about the cell? none of these ideas are original. get inside people's minds to fool them. if you want to go the deepest, this was first done in the 1930's fantasy movie where a young couple are forced to never see each other again but seem fine with that as we find out in the end they are together every nite sharing their dreams. they are both in the same dream. as if such in this movie, the same simulation stolen from the matrix. which stole it from multiplayer video games. why am i ranting so much? cuz even tho i knew it was just yet another version of an old story, i just wanted to enjoy this version. hence, i didnt. if i knew this was made by a woke toxic feminist i would never have bothered. they are always bad and always bomb. sadly i went into it without knowing that.

@@calliesolberg Pretty much. I didn’t much care for the whole headquarters escape thing. It would’ve been more horrifying if Alice (without knowing)killed her only way out (Jack). She’d be stuck there forever with nothing better to do than either try to help the other women wake up. Or she’d be taken by the red men and be locked away then the community would go back to business as usual and Alice would just lose her sanity.

@@user-gs7lv2ng1m we don’t know that though. Also they know where jack lives so presumably there are agents in the real world. So she’s really not all that safe. Especially if we go with them being super poor and in a trash neighborhood. People might hear her and not do anything. That happens every day. Also if she didn’t escape they’d kill her. Jack was paying them for the services so with him dead she’s literal dead weight and a threat to the operation. They’d kill her which is what they were going to do anyway if they’d caught her.
