The greatest kickboxing champion of all time, Don “The Dragon” Wilson is the only kick-boxer to win 11 world titles in 3 weight divisions (light-heavyweight, super-light-heavyweight, and cruiserweight) and for 6 sanctioning organizations (WKA, STAR, KICK, ISKA, PKO and IKF). Along the way, he defeated 11 other world champions, 12 number-one contenders and 15 champions on 4 continents.
He thoroughly dominated kickboxing as the undisputed world champion, fighting anyone, under any rules, and he defeated the best champions in their own hometowns, while they were in their prime.
Wilson fight career started in 1974 in Orlando, FL, USA, he has defeated in his career some of the Great fighters, include James Warring, Demetrius Edwards, Maurice Smith, Dennis Downey, Dennis Alexio, Branko Cikatić, Mike Winkeljohn, Herb Thompson, Greg Smith, Muhammed Ashraf Tai, Panya Sornnoi, Pongdienoi Prasobchai, Rob Salazar, and a Draw against Jean-Yves Theriault.
His fight record stands at an impressive 72 Wins, 5 Losses, 2 Draws, 48 Knockouts, and 6 Kick-Knockouts.

Watching guys like this not only amazes me but also has me not understand how Kickboxing never got big and became popular. I feel it could've and should've been as popular as boxing or even surpassed it in popularity.

It was big for a time. Its heyday you'd probably say was early 80s to early 90s. In some of these old highlights you can see huge crowds and matches also aired on ESPN. Unfortunately it seems that MMA came along and largely stole whatever interest there was in kickboxing because right as the UFC was getting going, the sport started to die out, at least in the US. The kickboxing era was a great time for American martial arts. I wish I could go back to those days.

@@pedroolivarez572 He was far more effective in Kick Boxing aka full contact due to Don being a Martial Artist in Kung Fu. Wonder boy and the other fighter, UK that fights in cage fighting use their Martial arts ability rather than abandoning their style for rather Boxing alone. It's what one is more effective as an individual with the style rather than the style alone. There have been other greats; Benny the Jet, "The Black Bruce Lee, Backster Humphrey, Peter Cunningham etc.

​@@pedroolivarez572 well when you've been conditioned to kickboxing, then of course it's going to be difficult to transition straight to just boxing... You're so used to fighting with your legs and hands, now you have to just fight with your hands... I don't imagine that to be an easy thing to do.... I think it's easier for a boxer to transition to kickboxing or Muay Thai if they're flexible enough than it is for one of those two to transition to into boxing

@@scarred10 if you research white dragon Kung Fu it's considered as Shaolin boxing 1:56 that hook kick is part of technique of white dragon Kung Fu. I met him at the gym in California he was special guest there we have opportunity to ask him that his style of fighting is really Kung Fu then don Wilson said yes most of it the spinning back kick, hook kick,side kick ,spinning back fist he added that his style gonna look like kickboxing because of the rules. When he fought Muay Thai fighter in Hong Kong don Wilson glad that he can use his elbow and knee technique as part of white dragon Kung Fu arsenal.

@@alemmesmashbird7364 all those kicks are part of lots of styles,nothing exclusive to kung fu.He used no fundamental kung fu techs and shaolin boxing is extremely stylised and not at all like don did in any ring.The elbows of kung fu ate never sparred with so may as well not exist.He basically fought like he never trained any traditional style.

I think you misunderstand the word kung Fu there's a lot styles of Kung Fu like choy lee fut, jei chia, and of course sanda wushu is part of Kung fu if you ask the sifu of those martial arts they tell you is part of Kung Fu because those martial art I mention roots from practical techniques of Kung fu. I think you mean like Kung Fu movies move you referring to I guess too bad you live in reality those are just cheography for entertainment pls try to understand between cheography and practicality. I am able to visit white dragon Kung Fu gym here in california I'm gonna tell you it was fun there is a punching bag like boxing also matt for a match they also have sparring and meditation.

I have been close friends with Don for close to 40 years. He is much stronger and faster than people think he is. The guy is a workout machine - he runs ten miles a day even when he is making movies. The funny thing about him is that he never gets upset or nervous. He just fights. His trainer locks him in his hotel room before the fight because if he doesn't, then Don will be running around talking and joking. I have been with him at many big fights and he acts like he is there to watch... Here is a secret for you - when he fought Dennis Alexio he was sick as a dog, but did not what to pass up a nationally televised fight. I covered the fight for Official Karate Magazine and followed Dennis up to his room after the fight and asked why he didn't take the leg kick training that was offered to him before the fight. He responded "Because I didn't know any could hit that hard!" Even sick, Don could beat down a younger, strong opponent who was after a title. Never under estimate Don and I say that not just as his friend and fellow black belt, but because I have been in the ring with him... You don't know until he has been in front of you. Trust me on this one.

Wilson actually looked better in the ring than on film. Ring fights are based on skill, baiting, gauging and instinct rather than choreography. I think that part of film fights makes Don appear more mechanical.

Don Wilson once talked in an interview about MMA, and he said that MMA might be more difficult than kickboxing. but if it was a fight without rules don said, that he was the last man alive. When he was training at Pai Lum Kung Fu, he was taught how to kill, not knock out your opponent, and Don always said that in a real fight, Tiger Kung Fu is the most dangerous compared to the other five animal Kung Fu. and what don uses in the ring is the dragon style and when he has to fight without rules he will use the Tiger Style

He was in quite a few films, but he was never a movie star- always a fighter. Don was so different and very real, even in his on screen style. Not flashy but super solid and when you see his fists on screen you can see the knuckle conditioning. No bs, great martial artist.

I have the strong impression that only few modern fighters have learnt to be martial artists and not only people who fight. But in that time almost all were great martial artists that shown respect to their rival. It seems that nowadays that honor and humility has been lost and people only wants to hit something or someone. I understand they want to learn how to defend themselves ASAP, but that has meant sometimes loosing that honor code.

Wow. Never saw Don 'The Dragon' Wilson fight. Seen some of his movies, and he's right about himself, he's NOT what you would call a 'fighter' in the sense that he's this 'brawler.' He's kinda 'soft' in his movies. He doesn't even have that 'action hero' vibe to him, and this made him someone who sticks in your memory. So. Finally get to see 'the Dragon' at his 'day job' and he is the best kick boxer I've seen. He just has this very easy way of expressing his kicks. But. The clip shows a lot of punching knockouts, too. Really glad I saw this clip. Had no idea he was a 'legend' in kick boxing, to this magnititude, taking on people in various kick boxing federations. When you see a kung fu guy knocking a Thai kick boxer against the ropes with that flat kick and the dude looks like a rag doll, it's just really cool.

True Legend. Back in the late 90's I fought in a Karate tournament held by Don near LAX. I met him and, I believe got his autograph. In the mid 80' s @ a Martial Arts school in the Valley/ Los Angeles area, my Instructor would see Don shadow Boxing. It's the Martial Arts school where no Retreat no surrender with Van Dam was filmed.

I train at the same boxing gym he workouts at hes coached me in sparring a few times and always taught me how to throw the same punch multiple times after I hurt someone absolute great fighter and person very nice humble dude I reccomend everyone watch his podcast with van lathan on the paolina encounter he tells dozens of stories about fights and sparring sessions with boxing greats like James toney Mugabi (who he knocked down in sparring!)
