Weird Facts : Two of the best to ever do it, Don Wilson and Jean-Yves Theriault, never had black belts in any martial art when they were champions...although later they would achieve them. Whereas...someone like Brad Hefton, for example, had a 5th degree black belt in Karate.

I caught the last of the Northwestern Karate Association tournaments back in the 90s when I was 15. They shut them down right after that. I got to compete in the 14 to 17 age bracket. We didn't wear pads or anything like they do in modern Olympic events and whatnot. I actually had my age brackets record for most boards broken.

So true, Kaitlyn, Clark and the Iowa team would beat the fever. At this point. They must make some serious changes. They have a gold mine in Caitlin Clark but they don’t know how to use it.

Keeping the hands in front of the chest while being exposed to head kicks is a very bad combo for your brain. In Muay Thai we used a guard like in boxing, but a little wider, to protect from head kicks.
@DouglasGomesBueno-jw9lh4 күн бұрын
Try make a Boxing Guard without gloves and try block a High Kick of a Professional Kicker without Gloves and see what happen.
@DouglasGomesBueno-jw9lh4 күн бұрын
Remember in Kyokushin they don't use gloves in Modern Muay Thai and Boxing they use gloves to protect and that change the game.

@@DouglasGomesBueno-jw9lh I started out with Shotokan karate, and I also have a TKD red belt. I have blocked hundreds of head kicks without gloves. What happens, do you mean? Gloves or no gloves makes a huge difference against punches, but not so much against head kicks, in my experience. Just look at the footage: A low guard will often get you KO.
@@hb9145 That's what happen when you play defensive in Kyokushin, The philosophy of Oyama sensei are the best defense are be evasive.

I remember attending a training event in England in the mid 90's hosted by Bill. I can't remember where it was. I am thinking Huddersfield but maybe wrong. I was only a kid at the time and didn't really take it all in. He was sparring with us all and teaching us his technique. Then there was the Martial Arts extravaganza event at the NEC Arena in Birmingham 1990. Good memories.
