I saw Don in 1979 at the Silver Dollar in Austin, Texas. He came out, sat on a stool and mesmerized the audience for the better part of two hours. Hall in Slidell La..The way they were looking at one another with so much LOVE ..made me tear up a little bit ..I was a little embarrassed when my best friend noticed and made a silly comment.. I started liking it and played it in my truck when he wasn't with me because I had always made fun of it, calling it "hill-billy music." Well, I finally let him know I was a fan also and ate crow. I heard Don Williams at the N.C.State fair in 1978 and he played this song. He sounded exactly like this in concert. There were only about 200 people in the Dorton Arena at the fair that night and nobody seemed to clap after the song. I was in the very far end of the building, probably 300 feet away from the stage, and at the end of this song I yelled out at the top of my lungs "Hey Don........Play it one more time !" . I swear to God , he stopped on stage and scratched the top of his hat and said " Well boys.......with a little pause, and they played the whole song again note for note. After that the crowd was crazy for the rest of the show. It embarassed the girlfriend I had at the time so bad that we broke up shortly afterwards. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. Any woman that didn't like Don Williams wasn't worth my time.
