Thanks for sharing this video, Ian. It shows almost all of the main places a Donald Campbell fan needs to visit.

Great stuff well put together. So glad Donald Campbell still gets the respect he and K7 deserve. We were up in the lakes a few weeks ago and Coniston water always pulls me back even though i have done the campbell tour like you, it just gets under the skin.

Cheers Barry. It's been great to see K7 run again on the Isle of Bute. Hopefully she can run at Coniston next year.

Just back from the Lakes and did exactly the same thing. Starting a new project soon, hoping to create a 1/4 scale jet turbine model of the K7 Bluebird.

Hi, you mentioned the K7 at the Ruskin was a replica, however it is actually original components, original spars, original engine, original sponson tops and fairing covers.. the only reproduced items are the sponson cores and float wedges.
@SmudgerVision6 жыл бұрын
Correct I could of worded it better as some of parts on show are original and some went with the restoration project I believe and obviously some components were lost in the crash.

Very nice little film you have made there, an avid fan of DMC myself and his father I don't live far from Filching Manor and they have a lot of old equipment and memorabilia from both Campbell's record attempts sadly now closed to the public. Talking of original parts there are some not far from here buried beneath an industrial estate in Haywards Heath if I remember rightly the original sponson's that were pulled from Coniston after the accident.

Hello Stuart, do you know why these were buried and do the restorers know of this? Cheers

Stuart Keen yes this is true , poured concrete over them when doing the foundations , shame

Thanks for the video. Does anyone know what happened to the original wreckage that was recovered at the time, like the remains of the sponsons that were photographed next to pier cottage?

The refurbished Bluebird is looking at having an outing on the lake in august 2018... Marillion inspired the whole start of the ball rolling

Lee Shepherd That's right Lee it will be great to see her back. I hope after trials in Scotland they let her run at Coniston.
@pyleen6 жыл бұрын
Ian Smith They surely have too... Had no idea the test runs were happening in scotland ? Is this due to lake conditions being smoother (Im guessing) ? Id imagine they are not going to push Bluebird too hard anyway prob more a steady ride.

Lee Shepherd As far as I know form what I have read the authorities who run the Lakes including Coniston were being awkward about the time of year it was going to run . I think the guys wanted to run in the summer on Coniston but permission has not yet been granted. The Isle of Bute welcomed them so the trials for now are there. With enough pressure hopefully the Lake District National Park Authority will let them run.
