He was a wonderful man , a great man . I agreed with his wife whom never wanted his body to be found but to be left in peace in the Coniston waters . However they did retrieve part of remains in 2001 , if I remember correctly . May he RIP.

A DVD of this programme- in full- can be bought from The Bluebird Project, with the proceeds going directly towards the rebuild of the boat. The DVD is taken from the original master transmission disc.

MY LATE MOTHER KNEW GINA WHEN SHE OWNED THE BLUEBIRD RESTARAUNT IN LYMINGTON,I NEVER MET GINA BUT I WOULD LIKE TO. 1967 WAS THE YEAR I LEFT SCHOOL ND REMEMBER THE TRAGIC EVENT WITH GREAT AFFECTION AND ADMIRATION. IN THOSE DAYS WE WERE THE BEST AND THE WORLD LOOKED ON. IF YOU ARE READING THIS GINA YOU HAD A GREAT FATHER NEVER FORGET THAT.

I'm Italian. I was one when Donald Campbell died but I read his story in my grandpa books of "History illustrated" and I've always thought of him with great admiration. I hope that Blue Bird projcet will finally restore the original hydroplane and I hope to give my little contribution buying a cotton overall.

The night before the final attempt. He was playing cards with his mechanic Leo Villa when he pulled out the same card that mary queen of Scots had drawed the night before she was beheaded wi h campbell pointed out. When they found his body they only found his legs and abdomen but not his torso or arms. They concluded he was decapitated upon impact from the cockpit and front spar hitting the water. His head has still not been found but atleast his death would have been instanous.
