Please don’t cheapen this beautiful and cherished piece of music by calling it the “black national anthem “. The song is entitled “LIFT EVERY VOICE & SING”. It was and is still affectionately called “The Negro National anthem “. It was called this to create a feeling of solidarity and pride among African American people during the days of segregation. Please don’t play the politically correct card with this song. When you do that it cheapens the struggle of my people and it demeans the depth and power of this song.
