Russia is stuck in a war trying their best to hold on to a small part of eastern Ukraine- where it seems the people actually want to secede. Also, there's another ruler nowadays who broke every peace or ceasefire treaty he signed since his ascension to President in 2000, and who is clearly not going to stop. Putin has it on record that the Baltic countries are next. So Ukraine surrendering is going to increase chances of WW3, not diminish them, as NATO won't be sitting by idly when Putin gets his invasion itch scratched on actual NATO members. Russia is not stuck in Ukraine - they could turn around and go home any day. Somehow, all the peace doves forget that minor fact that Russia is the one who started this war and is the one who can end it literally tomorrow. Or the day after. Or any day they want to end it. They just... choose not to. Finally, I'm not sure who told you there's a secession movement in Ukraine because before 2014 (when Putin invaded the first time) there's been zero indication of it.
