Sociologists, psychologists and anthropologists would probably need to learn and discuss theories often related to the far left ideology as part of their study of humanity, decision making and human behaviors. Also the far left often prefer to use studies and data to create policies, as they base a lot of them around public funding and investing. That is why people like Trump wrongly think Universities promote far left when instead, the far left are just more likely to choose studies to back up their claims in governmental settings.

Everywhere in USA people with a 4 year degree are in high demand as substitute teachers. The typical pay is $30/hour and $2000/month, part time. Art and music are in particular demand. A PhD in ANY field can become a Superintendent of Public Instruction. There is a shortage. FYI: An earned 4 year degree on average results in an 8 year longer life than predicted for the general population. That was in our graduate school Economics of Education textbook. Speaking as a CTAE teacher with an understanding of workforce education and development, too many students have been attending college. By the '80s education placed a greater emphasis on attending college and reduced funding for traditional industrial arts programs. Students also lost the ability to effectively communicate, analyze and problem-solve. The most recent NAEP report revealed a tremendous loss in both math and reading and a recent article expressed many college professors are also quitting teaching--fed up with many students simply submitting AI generated work. Still, Trump's plan for an online college cannot possibly provide the training for any careers requiring kinesthetic learning (i.e. health sciences, construction trades, automotive, etc.).

I still believe that children should learn more STEM than other subjects in school. I know a lot of teachers don't understand math in their schools and try to avoid it, but it needs to be done for America to get smart again. Children now can't even do simple algebra after high school. In other countries, they learn these basics before the age of 13, our students can't grasp it after 18. That's a huge difference which makes it harder to teach many subjects like Chemistry, Physics, and Biology because they can't grasp simple arithmetic concepts. Which then those upper subjects, you need algebra to somewhat get it. 😅😅😅 it's going to be even harder for parents to teach or help their kids because of the gap of not teaching students correctly when everyone was passing just to pass. State testings should be back.

Regardless of one's political bent, this is an interesting idea. There are some limits or challenges to learning solely online. After all, K-12 online learning was widely criticized during the COVID pandemic. However, there are some high quality online high schools (eg., Silicon Valley Online High School) that exist and one of my children recently completed a 1 year course in geometry as a rising 9th grader. My 11th grader son recently attempted to take an online quantum mechanics class through Stanford's online offerings and while the quality of the course was good it was too challenging for him. Online learning can definitely work for some kids, particularly if they are well prepared and can get help if they get stuck on something but it is not going to work for everyone. And, that is fine bec6the traditional options can continue to exist as well. A little competition is a good thing because we have to do something to lower the cost of college. I should point out that the costs of these classes are quite reasonable too. It was $250 ($125/semester) for the online high school class. And, it is an accredited course as well as a rigorous course.

It should be treated as such and is just as important as maintaining infrastructure in this country (another thing we’re bad at). It is there to be a continuously steady base to build a stronger nation upon. Neglecting it by making it so expensive is just concentrating wealth/ideas further. I suppose it is not good enough for you that on average a person with an earned 4 year degree from the USA lives 8 years longer than the life expectancy tables for the general public predicts. I paid for my own degrees and did not bother to pick a major until my senior year. I took whatever I wanted. I merely wanted to be a well educated person. Ultimately, I took 3 graduate degrees and was awarded a post-doc scholarship to a very prestigious university. My tuition and textbooks were paid by a non-profit because I gave free lectures to the public for many years. Preparing some people for 'jobs' is one of the lesser tasks universities take on. Colleges are for exposing the offspring of the affluent to the most valuable ideas of the human species. Colleges were not designed for the offspring of the working class who must earn their living. The working class was admitted to honor the value of Civil War veterans and WWII veterans. The federal student loan / grant / work-study progression was created for the offspring of WWII veterans because the nation needed teachers and other professionals. Universities will refuse to abandon it's primary mission to teach culture to the offspring of the affluent who value culture. If Trump kicks the working class out of the colleges, he kicks the working class out of the colleges. Kicking them out of the colleges will not improve their lives. You need to look further into what accreditation means because you don’t seem to understand how it works. Accreditors don’t tell institutions what to teach. They ensure that whatever they are teaching there is effectiveness in that teaching.
@9monthcollegegrad-ryansway67114 күн бұрын
Yes they do. There are curriculum requirements for most majors. For example.. for a school to get accredited for a Nursing program they have very specific things that must be taught. Same goes for TONS of different majors.
@9monthcollegegrad-ryansway67114 күн бұрын
I thought I'd hit Chat GPT for a little backup so it's not my word against your... "Accreditation standards often specify WHAT needs to be taught to ensure students receive a comprehensive education. These guidelines cover core topics and competencies that programs must include to meet industry standards and prepare students for their careers."
@bonaventura151914 күн бұрын
Those are national, programmatic accreditors, not the regional ones that accredit institutions as a whole.
@bonaventura151914 күн бұрын
Generative AI is known to “hallucinate” in other words, it makes things up when it cannot articulate a clear solution. National programmatic accreditors DO make up content rules, but regional ones like HLC, MSCHE, etc. don’t. The closest thing they come to that is the requirement to have a core curriculum, but they don’t say what has to be in it. Read for example the MSCHE Standards of Accreditation.

@@bonaventura1519 You're calling me out for being wrong... but I'm not. But you're holding your stance, which is incorrect. I'm not sure what to do here 😆. Regional Accreditation is the reason Universities all Universities teach General Education classes. All Math, Science, English, Humanities, Arts, and a ton of other stuff. The same goes for your field of study... If you look at something like a Business Management degree at 100 different Regionally Accredited schools you'll see that they all have a bunch of the same exact classes. Now within those classes and fields of study each school has flexibility in a lot of ways.. but they're required to include a number of things. You're arguing that "Accreditors don't tell institutions what to teach." They don't mandate every detail of every class... but there's a ton that schools must teach to get Regional Accreditation.

I wasted money on " Library", " college prepardness" etc. Classes that are irrelevant. Plus, I could only take so many hours of classes, so it extended my time because, summer, they dont give grants, and you have to ask for permission to take over your credit hours every semester. If I didn't have to take nonsense classe, I could finish i four years and not 6 😒

Couture: If you arrived weakly prepared, that is your responsibility. Admissions assessed every student's application. If you got your degree, they successfully got you through their program. NOW, you will average having an 8 year longer life than the general life expectancy tables show. NOW, you never have to accept any work below $30/hour because you are wanted as a substitute teacher all over the nation. You never have to be unemployed. Now, if you want to achieve more, use your lifetime benefits at the school Student Placement Services Office and get additional free training in how to develop your career in the economy. There are 52,000,000 who are 18 to 30 in the USA. There are 65,000,000bwhobare under 18. You will never run out of customers, clients, students, or patients during your lifetime. Did you take public relations and marketing? If not, you now have to read and teach yourself how to sell your skills. Many students take 5 years. Many honors students take 5 years. I bet you are more bored now, since college is the most fun many people ever have. YOU are the one responsible for giving yourself a good life. What are you not?

You're totally right! I imagine it will have to be structured like online Nursing programs. For online nursing... students do all the bookwork and study the curriculum online... then these schools have partnerships with hospitals for all of the clinical and hands-on stuff. I imagine any online trade education would be structured similarly. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

You have some good insights into this... have you considered the role of AI and agents as the reason for these very low costs for education? The breakdown of these institutions is inevitable at this point. A degree today has as much value as a pedigree holds for a dog in this age of information. Any person with a computer has accesses to information, the issue seems to be in having the material items and space to engage with and get hands on experiences. Yet simulations and visualizations can also serve in such studies. There is so much more going on than what you bring up my friend.

Something could be done quickly is put caps on turion on any school that accepts financial aid from the US Dof Ed. Treat universities sort of like Medicare.

Gale: 20% of MDs in the USA quit in 2023. They refused to renew their professional liability insurance because hospitals were insisting they supervise the untested, foreign doctors licensed during Covid and the students who had not finished medical schools during Covid. Sure, treat education like health services. What are you going to do when 29% quit in the same year?

@CreativityNow I don't know where you are. But in my neck of the woods MDs are getting hired just fine. I think you got hit by the propaganda train. I inspect nuclear medicine and oncology. There are plenty of openings anywhere look There are a lot of old MDs and they are retiring but that is due to their age. Not Medicare or anything.

@@kaelobstewart1317 that's not generally what colleges or regular people call science or math degrees but if you are lumping them together like that then I agree. As a person with an accounting degree though we don't lump ourselves in a mathematics degree 😂. If you wanted to be super general you could say we have business or financial degrees. Then medical degrees would be STEM degrees
@RyanK-10015 күн бұрын
I have been saying this for 40 years. Well, something similar. Maybe not EXCLUSIVELY toward STEM fields, but money should be allocated by % based on projected need in the economy. After high school, where you need to get a well-rounded intro to many disciplines, we should only pay for things that will benefit the taxpayer. You want your degree in medieval poetry? We project to only need one such graduate per year in the whole country. Graduate school? How many Ph.D. urban planners or classical dance researchers do we need?

Gsxr: You are 30 years behind. USA has a shortage of social workers, a shortage of business degrees, a shortage of accountants, a shortage of teachers, a shortage of hospital nurses, a shortage of physicians, a shortage of dentists, a shortage of communications professors to teach education majors public speaking, a shortage of logistics professionals. USA has 52,000,000 who are 18 to 30. USA has 65,000,000 who are under 18. Now, WHERE are the professionals to provide them with services? Are they supposed to go back to the level of professional services in the 1950s? 3750 Boomers with State licenses and professional degrees are retiring every day since January 1, 2008. 7500 Boomer in general are retiring daily since 2008. In contrast, 10,000+ have been turning 28 daily on average since January 1, 2012. So we are getting more and more adults and more and more children, and we are losing more and more professionals. This crop of young people is 28,000,000 BIGGER than the Baby Boom, and you want us to reduce our supply of professionals NOW? We have 35,000,000 professional drivers, and those are not enough. Mathematicians and scientists are not useful if your loved one is suicidal. You need a hospital nurse or social worker's help. If you have a kidney stone, you need a physician. You get a letter from IRS that you are being audited, you need to take your drawer of tax papers to an accountant. You have had the luxury of professionals to help you for over 45 years. THAT is going to vanish as Boomers retire. Suit yourself. Figure out all that stuff for yourself on your digital devices. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Yep, I'm just gonna leave this here: "According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center (NSCRC), the college graduation rate in 2023 was 62.2% for all schools. That's slightly higher than the average college graduation rate from 2008-2021 reported by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which was 60% at four-year colleges." So, better. HBCUs have better than average graduation rates.
