The plot about the reformed gunfighter trying to build a new life for himself (and a punk kid getting in his way) is as old as the West itself. Film it with style and imagination, and you get a classic like Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. Don't, and you get this. Very likable performances by Clint Walker and Anne Francis, and a delightful one by the great Vincent Price, take this a certain distance, but Robert Sparr directed a ton of TV in the 60s, and it shows: the movie has that sterile, airless made-for-TV look and feel. (And the musical score is dreadful!) Critic Gene Siskel has said that he'd rather watch a documentary on how a bad film was made than the film itself: me, I'd love to watch footage of moviegoers looking at the title and noticing Price's participation, thinking this is a horror flick rather than a Western, and trying to get their money back! 5/10.
