My thoughts on the RC4WD 1/24 Trailfinder 2 Mojave II

Looking forward to the upgrades as this thing is awful out of the box (for the high price, especially). It's sad that many hard body "scaler trucks" have the body as a secondary consideration and we haven't gotten to the point where components are really micro to where we can have motor, battery and transmission up front and a full depth bed and passenger compartment, at least in 1/24 scale--I don't think it has been realised yet.

Yep same things I got into and I broke front axles in 30 minutes after opening the box

This truck is now on sale for $79.00 US. I bought one because I thought it was a good price. Thoughts?

Of course this is a good price and I would buy several more for this price. But the price here (Austria, EU) in shops is 249 €!!! (this is crazy, actually about 250 US$). All RC4WD products are unbelievably expensive here. The 1/18 trucks are 290. But 290 ist still "good" compared to the 250 for the 1/24, because the 1/18 do have metal axles, metal beadlock wheels, metal driveshafts... the 1/24 is plastic. Maximum 150 would be a "ok" price for the 1/24 here, not 250. Mini-Z 4x4 is 250 here, too. But it is a way better truck than the 1/24 RC4WD, way better scale body, way better driving (but still too expensive).

@@donaldsneffe I do have the Mini-Z Jeep. That cost me about $200.00US. I also got a SCX Jeep Gladiator that cot me $150.00US. I do want the Traxxas when it becomes available . Thoughts?

@@alfredyost7972 I do not have any Traxxas and will not buy the TRX4m. And it is still not available here in Europe (delayed, now announced for next week). I hate Traxxas with their proprietary plugs etc. (not that I would not be able to change this easily, but I hate this politics, and trying to force customers to buy overpriced accessories and upgrades). I like the Mini-Zs, because they are Mini-Zs ;-) - but they are also way too expensive here. SCX24s are sold for "normal" price here (130 - 160 €, depending on model), and they are easiest to play around because of the tons of aftermarket parts. And they are the best performers out of all those micros. I think the FMS FCX24 is most fun out of the box.

@@donaldsneffe I do agree about Traxxas stuff. I only have one Traxxas truck and it is 2wd slash. I changed the plugs and the esc. Why? I did want to use their batteries or chargers. I am not saying those parts are bad, I just did not want use them. If I get the mini Traxxas truck I will do the same thing. I will change everything that I do not like or want. Thoughts?

@@alfredyost7972 Batteries? If plugs would be available, it would be easy to make adapters. So you'll probably have to use the plug of the original battery to make an adapter. Probably it is "UMX style", check my video "1 for all". But since I do not have such a Traxxas battery, I cannot for sure say it works "UMX style".

I had to heavily modify mine with orlandoo metal drive shafts (the thick ones) and scx24 shocks that had to be heavily modified (just the rear ones) as well in order to have a decent running truck, I also changed to 120rpm n30 motor, and weight in the tires. The optional parts such as rock slider feel fragile to the point where im afraid its a matter of time b4 i break them, and the rear bumper, I broke it while installing, and when I emailed rc4wd about how fragile they are, all they said was "we'll let our team know" 😒

Glad to hear that there are more guys modding their 24TF2 ;-) - Did not find a lot so far. I tried 100 rpm high quality n30 motor, but not satisfied at all (too weak, too slow, even on 3s). Did change to a larger motor (050 RGT with gearbox of a 050 gearmotor, which was also too slow). Do not see a problem with driveshafts so far, what is the problem? I have a problem to make the drivetrain run smoothly. Let them run (central gearbox and rear axle seperate) to break in forever... but still not really good. Heavily worked with shocks, still not sure if I'll use Orlandoo shocks or stock, maybe different springs; SCX24 shocks (have numerous) are way too large IMO, aren't they? Also turned servo 90° and of course I use different electronics. We will see, video of my totally changed TF2 will be up soon. RC4WD will also let their team know that ... (see my tire videos with stamped steel beadlocks and Milestars).

@@donaldsneffe it was actually 150 n30 motor I used, not 120rpm. The reason I changed to orlandoo hunter drive shaft is bc when I changed to the 150rpm, it had more torque and it broke the front stock shaft. For the front shock tower I drilled a hole all the way on the top and drilled a new hole on the front axle on a lower partfrom where the shock origonally mounts; by doing that, it didn't increase the height of the truck and of course it gave me more travel with the scx24 shocks. The original shocks would get stuck/bind when you compressed them and the orlandoo hunter shocks are so soft that when you hit the throttle the car leans a bit to one side. So by having the scx24 shocks it almost eliminated it the leaning to the side. I could show you pics of my mods but idk where.

@@luisLP5752 OK, will see - did not drive it yet (but a bit for testing), how this will be with my 050 motor (way stronger than any N-motor, and also quite fast). I worked a ton with those crappy shocks, super hard because of extreme binding on all ball-joints. To get those loose and smooth was a lot of work. Mine do not bind in shafts... will have to see, maybe use the soft Orlandoo springs back... still not finished... could also test some other shocks...

RC4WD seems to want to do their own thing. Unfortunately, it's in the wrong direction. BTW, the 1/24 TF2 has CVD's for steering, not universals.

These are on sale for $80 USD here and I was really tempted but still don't think its worth it. The wheels look awesome and the body would look great painted but I don't think I'll enjoy it without spending way too much money on it.

Now that furitek seems to be releasing a mount for the micro Komodo and able to install it on these. I will be interested but I will wait for a big sale. I think they had them for about $129 at some point

Man what a terrible company. I learned their mystery boxes are not worth their very hefty prices and what you receive as it is promised that the customer would get an equal amount of products to the price of the mystery box apparently that is not true in fact you get less and the products you do get aren't that good or totally useless. What a joke. It's too bad cause they sell alot of upgrade parts for other vehicles besides their own. I really wanted to buy the little trailfinder 2 but here in Canada they sell for $250. So I bought a FMS FCX24 and very happy with it. It's awesome my first rc crawler I have a helicopter which is fun but expensive when your piloting skkills are so lacking so I consider myself rc novice in all respects a rc newbie. Love your content I find it interesting and I learn a whole bunch from your channel. Keep up the hard work you do and thank you sir.

no, super expensive... I do have the Asiatees Mini-Z Defender Body - so not really keen on paying 250 € für a further Mini-Z 4x4, the more because there will not be a big difference to the others.

This truck is larger than any 1/24 model. There are plenty of scale model Hiluxes in the world to compare the TF2 1/24 to for reference. This truck is about 1/20 scale.

Still smaller than SCX24 and way smaller than FCX24. It is as it is with RC and scale accuracy... and this is not only for micros, same problem in larger scales.
