@@craig205 every video is see somebody saying how a character from 2012 is and it makes me see more of the character's imperfections compared to other iterations that were written in sync with their overall personality, like Leo for example: he's supposed to be the hardworking leader and big brother, 2012 showed more of his goofy side and barely had any serious moments with him fr. Splinter literally chose him to be leader just because he was his favorite in 2012 whereas in 2003 he chose him because of how hard working he was, he literally saved master splinter to overcome his fear of heights

2012 donatello has to be my favourite out of them all for many reasons 1.this donatello actually has characterization and character development 2.this donatello is flawed and i love it because it makes him more realistic and that creates more character development 3.i kinda like that there are some invention that actually makes the situations worse instead of better like the episode where a kraang took controll of metalhead and splinter telling him that he can't always relay on his inventions and donatello realizing it

They devoted episodes to each turtle in every season. Donnie in 03 was the closest to the actual turtles from the comics. Rise is by far my favorite. I loved his tech bo, which was something I really wanted 2012 donnie to have. Plus rise Donnie had A LOT of personality other then being "the smart one" or "the one who finds the solutions" plus he's hilarious. 2012 donnie comes second to me, love him but his obsession with April got annoying at times.

My Favorite versions of Donatello are the 2012, IDW, and 1987 Donatello. I really like the idea that 2012 Donatello has a tooth gap too and he’s a little skinny. That version of Donatello should be used for the design of the character in the new Live-Action TMNT Movie.

Rise Donnie is- OH MY GOD! Rise Donatello has a FULL personality! I haven’t watched the 2003 Version of tmnt but if you put 2003, 2012 and 2018 Rise has WAY better tech and a personality others can relate too! And mind you, I find it very good Nickelodeon finally decided to make each turtle a new design. Now you can separate them and not think that Donnie is Leonardo in 2012 because they almost look the same and their masks both look almost dark blue in the night and/or dark places! I respect your opinion, don’t get me wrong. Yet MANY have said before that out if all the Donatello versions, Rise is superior mostly by a long shot. ‘Sigh’ excuse me for my attitude. Mine's 2007. I think 2003 did the same mistake that every other version after did. They turned him into a harsh stereotype of a nerd. If you hear the phrase "english donnie" from one of the other turtles. . . that, to me, makes for a bad donnie. Give the man a sense of charisma and social intelligence, pls. I personally find that he's not supposed to be the nerd of the group. Instead he is supposed to be the cool turtle who just happens to be smart yet sarcastic and have nerdy hobbies. Talking techno-babble isn't "cool turtle", it's just an insulting caricature.

And his personality was perfect. Donnie isn't supposed to be some harsh stereotype of a nerd. He is SUPPOSED to be the cool guy who happened to also be smart (sometimes too much so for his own good). Compare that with the 2003 version. If you have to hear one of the other turtles say "ENGLISH DONNIE" then you wrote the character poorly. He SHOULD have charisma. He IS the sarcastic turtle with a bit of an ego. He's reasonable, sensible, socially inelegant (so yeah, that SHOULD give someone a bit of an ego and a slight false sense of slight superiority, which may cause him to be slightly impatient at times, like we saw with his tech support job). Yes, he likes tech, but that's not his whole personality. He has charisma (unlike that of the 2012 reboot, who had ZERO social intelligence). This donnie (2007) was perfect, except. . . maybe written a little too dark and edgy.

Great video! I largely agree with your ranking, but personally, I rank Mirage Comics Don and maybe even Bayverse Don above 1987 Don. Before people start grabbing torches and pitchforks, let me explain. I love the 1987 show because I grew up with it and it's classic, but I feel like it's version of Don could have been better. Donatello is supposed to be a genius inventor, but while 1987 Don makes cool gadgets, he also seems to screw up his machines a lot by doing absurd things. I get that that was supposed to be comedic but... It just like the creators should have either committed to Don being a brilliant tech genius or not gone that direction at all rather than straddling the fence. Still, I'm grateful that TMNT 1987 helped to develop Don into the Turtle we know and love today!

It's a crime that the 2007 movie wasn't rank 1. It doesn't matter what he does. What matters is how good the depiction is. Sure the visuals weren't "amazing". . . but the personality was perfect. He wasn't some over-clichéd nerd. He was a cool guy who is smart. . . which is what donnie is supposed to be. He didn't talk techno jargen that no one could keep up with making him look pompas just because he was smart like in the 2003 animated and 80s/90s series, he didn't lack social charism like the nickelodeon 2012 reboot. He was perfect. Smart, reasonable, SOCIALLY intelligent and felt like an actual person and not just some really bad caricature.

@@justsawo483 2003 was one of the "over-clichéd nerd" I was referring to. Any depiction of donnie where you can easilly see any one of his brothers saying the phrase "english donnie" at any moment in time, imo, is a bad over-stereotyped depiction of donnie. He was a caricature rather than an actual character. Rise is growing on me (on a conceptual level only), but by god is he too flamboyant for my taste. It's also worth noting the original depictions from the comics and how much damage the 90s cartoon did to deviate them from their original "tone". I find that 2007 donnie and movie as a whole is more respectful to that source tone while still respecting the established characterizations that came (at least in-part) from the later cartoons (party jokey turtle, turtle with anger issues, golden boy turtle and techy turtle) which weren't technically in the comics (originally).

@@Hadeks_Marowyes turtles changed a lot since their debut,but you have to accept the fact that they needed character development,original turtles weren't that interesting as individuals, authors had to develop them more in order to get them popular which is a good thing,so i don't see anything wrong with Donnie being a nerd, especially not in 2003 where he wasn't lame stereotypical nerd but actually funny,cool,brave and most important smart turtle,and the turtle with best bonding with other brothers since he was mature and serious enough so Leo could rely on him, Raph and him had great relationship which is definitely my favorite,and he was the only one to listen to Mikey's stuff and even when he is annoyed he didn't show it as other 2,so imo the best Donatello out there,if there is any cliche version,it gotta be 2012,as for 2007,he was okay but hard to judge his character when movie was based on Leo and Raph mostly,other two were just side characters,they didn't even show their personalities properly

@@justsawo483That's why I said "tone" not "personality". The tone (comics) was darker and edgier. The 90s cartoon made them goofie to appeal to younger audiences (kids). Much like Teen Titans GO did to teen titans. 2003 course corrected on that decision. And theres been this weird balancing act ever since between serious and goofie. 2007 just found the perfect balance for there to be fun within the seriousness to allow for goofy laughs without dropping the serious tone. 2007's don was egotistical and combative, which is what you would expect from the smartest turtle in the room who, because of his awareness of his intelligence, always felt as if he knew what's best. It gave him good character flaws for writers to work with, if this rendition actually got future stories of that version of the turtles that is. Character flaws are what make a character feel more well-rounded. Yes, they didn't do alot with him, but there's alot you can tell about him from the few shots that focus on him. It also compliments raphs mentality of why he has to go in on it alone. Because donnie, with his ego, thinks it's his responsibility to keep raph in check when he steps out of line. He hates goofball mikey, is jealous of how perfect leo is. It's no wonder he can't rely on his brothers. It's what makes shredder a good villain. Their capability to defeat him is only determined by how well the brothers are getting along at the time. If they are all fighting eachother, they lose, but when they all are in good relations with eachother in high spirits supporting eachother, they win. That means you need good elements to make them naturally fight eachother while also caring enough not to always hate eachother. Brothers fight, but they always make up in the end. That's what 2007 depiction captures for me the best. The sense of them actually being brothers. Realistic brothers who struggle to get along but always try to overcome that struggle in the end. 2012 is cliché social awkward geek, not cliché nerd technobabble.

My favorite version of Donnie has to be rise not only is his tech on a whole new level but he’s also autistic and as an autistic person I find him to be relatable Sure he’s a bit snarky at times but that’s ok My overall ranking would go like this 1 rise Donnie 2 2012 Donnie 3 2003 Donnie 4 2014/2016 Donnie 5 MVNT Donnie And lastly 1987 Donnie I haven’t seen the 90s movies yet so I can’t say my thoughts on those

My favorite Donnie is: 1. 2014-2016 I know a lot of people do not like these turtle designs but I for one think they look cool and the Donatello design suits him pretty well I also like the actors portrayal of Donnie. 2. 1990 This Donnie and the sequel after it was pretty fun to watch. I like his moments his dialogue and his fighting style 3. 2003 This Donnie was fun to watch. 4. 2007 I wish this Donnie had more screen time but he still was okay. 5. 2012 I gotta say this Donnie is my least favorite. He rarely gets a good time to shine and he is also very annoying and stupid. Also in TMNT media Donnie is known to be smart and calm and somewhat skilled, but in the show he is sometimes smart, is not skilled, is not calm, and is ridiculously obnoxious. I cannot stand 2012 Donnie and his whole April crush is weird and odd. Like seriously Donnie created a lot of mutant enemies and problems during season 3 and other things. 2012 is probably the the 2nd or 3rd worst donnie ever.

I actually liked 2012 april. She felt like a younger version of 2003 april. I compare that to, say, how Iron Man: Armored Adventures made a teenage tony stark iron man. Plus, she had a good arc in becoming a female ninja. I love that they gave her a fan as a weapon, a fan that belonged to splinter as a treasured heirloom. I much prefer her over that arse "rise" april they are going for now and in the new movie. Like, who tf is she supposed to be like? She doesn't remind me of ANY incarnation prior. :/ Didn't like that Casey, and the weird think with donnie was bad, but april was alright.
